    Installed my rebuilt 22RE from Yota1 in June of 2020 in my 1985 4Runner. Great company to work with, 10k trouble free miles thus far! This video would have helped me a lot last year but really glad someone is doing a soup-to-nuts 22RE swap video. The cell phone videos from circa 2005 don't really cut it! Thanks Tim and Yota1!

      Nice. Great to hear your Yota1 engine is running strong. And yeah, we agree they are a great company to deal with. We know this series is going to help people out big time. The information shared is enormous. Most UA-camrs don't have the patience to take on involved projects like this. It took us two very full days to film the project. Then I think I probably spent 70-80 hours editing and that was just on my end. Sean spends a ton of time also polishing up the projects after I first go through it and get the content and flow I'd like to see. It's definitely a labor of love.

      Yes, we do have lots of nice Toyota resources on the West Coast. Yota1 is our favorite though. They also can ship the product to you.

      I had my 22RE long block shipped to NJ last year from Yota1. Pretty painless. But yes, I agree. No good Toyota shops on the East Coast anymore. Just means you need to study the FSM and get really familiar with a multimeter :)

    • @TimmyTheToolman

      @@justinbarilar6615 Maybe it has something to do with the salting of the roads. Since most of these rigs get rusted to shit before the drivetrains die, maybe that's why there's not any shops specializing in these older rigs because most of them are in the wrecking yards because of corrosion. California is littered with older Toyotas because they don't rust out and people can keep them going for as long as they want.

      Thanks! Nick, the owner of Yota1 is the superhero. We were just lucky to be along for the ride and could document the job. We could have done this swap at my place, but no way would it have been as good because Nick just knows so much about these motors that I don't. We partnered with the right guy for this video series.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  3 роки тому +1

      @@subtegral Yep, pretty fortunate we met Nick and have built a solid relationship with him. But, one thing a lot of people don't know is how labor intensive it is to make a video series like this. It took us a very full weekend to shoot the job. Since we were filming with more than one camera, there was a lot of footage to go through. I easily spent 80 hours editing the 3 parts and that's just on my end. I start the editing process by getting the content and flow correct and then Sean takes over and polishes it up making it much nicer to view. So, what I'm trying to say is we really earned the engine and Nick gets that. But, no doubt about it, our partnership with Yota1 is the best business relationship we have going and we are going to shoot more videos with Nick.

      If you're looking for a shop to do the job for you, Yota1 is a great choice. But, with these videos that Nick was instrumental in making, you can do the job yourself if you have the time space and tools. Nick sells engines to people all over the country so he knows not everyone can come to his shop for the engine swap. He also knows not everyone can afford to pay a shop for the swap so that's why he wanted to make these videos to help people get the job done. He also fields lots of questions from people regarding engine installs and the ability to point them to a video series to answer their questions saves him valuable time.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  3 роки тому +1

      We had a chance to shoot that video but the guy we know of that makes the kit doesn't get it. He wanted us to shoot a video install of his kit and he was only willing to give us part of what we needed. He was basically asking us to work for free to make the video promoting his product and tapping into our audience which we have worked long and hard to build over the last 5 years. Then, there's the argument that putting the time and money into this conversion isn't worth it. The improvement in braking, if any, is negligible. So, we won't be making this video. We pretty much think it's a waste of time and money.

The engine idle really rough and i can’t even get out of 3rd gear around 45mph. my tps is set properly the idle drops when i jumped the diagnostic port. New plugs new wires new cap n rotor new egr just did the oil about less than a few hundred miles ago. I put in the tps and it passed smog now it won’t idle the tps is still within speck idk what to check anymore. been reading a lot that i might have skipped a tooth on timing chain but i don’t want to take it apart yet since finding gaskets is hard for this vehicle. any help is appreciated.

I’m checking the plugs right now and the gap. so my assumption is i’m only running on 2 cylinders (1 and 4). i haven’t redone a compression test because i don’t have a battery charger and i don’t know anyone with one at the moment. i’m rechecking the gap on the plugs and verifying if they are the right plugs. My guess is they are good because the truck was running fine before then one day on the freeway it just stopped.

      You really stopped watching the most helpful video series on a 22RE Engine Swap due to the intro music? You do realize you can fast forward past the intro, right? The ability to fast forward goes back to the early tape recorders, so I'm assuming you have heard of it. Anyway, good luck finding a video series that documents this job as well as we do. I know it doesn't exist, so something tells me you'll be back regardless of your comment. One last question for you: Does this mean you won't be subscribing to our channel? Adios! Timmy
