  • Jessica uses the ‘Days are long, years are short’ design by Kori Clark for this video. It can be purchased in Cricut Design space.
    She starts out by sizing her design to the size of her wood. This will make your project much easier to align.
    Once you’ve cut out your design with your Cricut, weed it the opposite of what you would normally do. Because this is a stencil you want to weed out the letters and keep the surrounding edge.
    Then align your design to your board and smooth out with an application tool. After it’s properly adhered, use a few thin coats of paint to fill in the cavities and peel off the transfer tape once it’s dry.
    Expressions Vinyl gives inspired crafters the tools and resources to bring their visions to life. Founded in 2008, and one of the original pioneers in the craft vinyl niche, Expressions Vinyl has created the benchmark and established its reputation for providing the best vinyl and customer service in the industry.

    That's terrific! Great instructional tutorial....Having the square the same size as the board is genius, definitely helping with tedious alignment struggles! Remember to remove some of the sticky from the transfer tape before you adhere to the transfer with a microfiber towel otherwise the transfer tape and the vinyl become "one" :)

    @Expressions Vinyl I always use a mask to make my signs, that way the 651 doesn't pull up any painted areas and ruin an otherwise beautiful project. I like you prefer the Oracal brand don't get me wrong I like 3M and Avery too but they have there place . Look up Oramask the price is not bad for a good quality products. And now time to check out your website.

      The problem with the reusable stencils are the middles of the a's, e's, o's and such. I have seen some people attach those pieces in the cricut software and then after using the stencils they fill in those parts with paint by hand.

    Very helpful. Purchased a stack of vinyl and roll transfer tape from you guys. I'm new to this, so have questions.... What type of paint do you recommend as a base paint on the wood? Is spray paint ok? Then, painting the words using acrylic paint? Please let me know.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 років тому

      Awesome! You are going to have lots of fun! Spray paint works great as well as acrylic paints. On this one, I used American brand acrylic paint for the base coat and then Martha Stewart acrylic paint for the words. Whatever paint you use just make sure it's a thin coat that is dry before putting on the next coat.

    I recently purchased a Cricut, so learning as I go. Love your right to the point tutorial. When I paint my wood I do leave it dry for 24 hours, however after I paint over my stencil words and pull it up I very often have a sticky residue on project. What am I doing wrong. Is it the brand I am using? Any suggestions? Thank you

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  5 років тому

      Hi Roxanne, it could be because of the brand you are using or we have seen that it is actually the paint. We recommend that after you have painted the stencil you do not leave the vinyl on that long. Remove it as soon as possible. We also carry a stencil material that is specifically designed for it. Here is the link - expressionsvinyl.com/removable-adhesive-vinyl/oramask/

    Learned alot. Just confused on what you needed the transfer tape for?? Maybe I missed something. You peeled the packing off your stencil and put it on the wood. Then you peeled the transfer tape off on the front. Not sure the purpose of using it.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  4 роки тому

      Hi, the Transfer Tape is used to hold all the vinyl in place and make it a little easier to place on the wood. Otherwise you would need to be extremely careful for each piece that you applied. Hopefully that helps. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Hey Jessica,
    What transfer paper exactly do you use. I find the cricut transfer tape not all that great.
    Thanks

      Hi Wayne, this is the type of paper transfer tape that we use - expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/ . It works great on a variety of different types of vinyl as well as different types of surfaces. Here is a link to several others that we use and like as well - expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/

    how did you adjust the wording on the weeding box on design space according to your wood board size?

    I am a new cricut explore air 2 user and I want to ask a question in regards to stencil making... forgive me if I sound stupid but why do I need to use the square in the design space? Can't you just type whatever saying you want and cut as you usually would and just weed it as you did?
    Thanks for the help and sorry for the stupid question LOL

      Hi Courtney, not a dumb question at all. The rectangle around it is a weeding box. It is helpful when you have a lot to weed as you can use it to separate sections. No, you don't need to add that in. You can cut it the way you normally do and then weed out your letters to make a stencil. Please feel free to ask any additional questions. We're happy to help.

    I'm new to cricut projects. I'm doing a little project for a wedding And wanted to do one of these. But what is the purpose of the transfer tape? is it necessary?

      Hi Sarah, the transfer tape hold all of the vinyl together in it's same shape to help you transfer it to a different location. Without it all the letters, etc would be extremely difficult to move from the sheet it is cut on to your project. Hopefully that makes sense. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Good Lesson thanks for sharing. Can you cut a vellum stencil so it can be reused? also use your own ideas not a
    purchased sign saying? Aurora

    Great tutorial! How long did you let the paint set before you peeled off the vinyl?

      Hi Melissa, for the last layer of gold we let it dry at least an hour. It would also depend on the type of paint as well as how thick it is. Thanks!
