Putting the waterproof covers on the pannier bags before you leave can save a lot of faffing if you get caught in a sudden downpour, and will keep the bags clean from all the road crud at this time of year. Have a great trip !!
I would swap over the sleeping bag and tent location. ie tent in pannier ( if fits) and sleeping bag in waterproof roll bag. Will keep sleeping bag dry and heavier tent will be lower down on bike. Just an opinion, have a great time keep eye on weather not looking good this week 👍🏻🫖🍳
Great video Kate, very informative. I would change out the elastic bungee Straps for Rok Straps, always use them for luggage as I find them more secure to use plus I carry a second pair just in case. Stay safe and enjoy your trip.
Camping! In this weather?? Your a hero, at the moment it's definitely b&b weather. As another guy remarked, buy a cheap tablet and download a couple of films, it takes up a lot less space and is lighter than your books. I know that it's being a bit optimistic but, how about a solar charger? (then again it is Scotland)! Lol. You ride safe and, I hope that your ankle injury from the German trip is ok.
I'd recommend rok straps rather than bungy cords. Some plastic bags and some baby wipes are also worthwhile additions. Also, don't put liquids in with books/electronic stuff, etc It doesn't always rain up here 🙄 Let me know when your heading up
You've got everything covered Kate. Well done. One thing I've always taken is a Swiss Army pocket/pen knife. With all the different blades, scissors, pliers, screwdriver etc, it's been invaluable at times and is small enough to be in my jacket pocket. Good informative vid Kate. Stay safe.
Spandangly touring kit 😂is that a new word Kate :) i did plenty on a 125 when i was younger, as long as you go with friends that aint going to blast off on the big bikes, trips can be great :) I met a group of scooter riders at the campsite in Dent a few years back, they had just come back from Portugal, some on 50cc... amazing.
the important thing is to keep up the enthusiasm, I always pray that I will be healthy, always happy, stay focused with positive thinking that is done every day, is running now
Very comprehensive breakdown of gear. It's so easy to get carried away with spending loads on gear and thinking you need a touring bike to go on an adventure! One small piece of advice, garnered from years of camping. Use more zip lock bags. Especially when it comes to cables, batteries, etc. They help with separating out stuff when you've got lots of different things in a large carryall. They also add to the level of waterproofing. And buoyancy, though that's a different story lol. Hope your straps hold up, and you get some sunny days. Zoom zoom!
Hi Kate, love this video. I have done the NC500 on my Yamaha YBR 125, I loved it. Camping all the way. I did struggle with space, but I really enjoyed my time.
Looking forward to your camping trip. Hope your milk doesn't go off before you set off. If you plan to do more camping trips, get yourself some 'ROK STRAPS' They're excellent , and much better than bungee cords. Save a bit of space by putting the rain covers on before you go, plus time, and, possibly, wet stuff if it starts to rain. Really, enjoying your videos lately. You've got a lot of different ideas which, I think are working for you. Hope Suzuki weren't too miffed about there scratched bike. And, finally, rather you than me in the winter.
A Scottish based company called Lomo do very good waterproof motorbike bags, a a third of the cost of Lone Rider gear. Never let me down personally. 👍🏻
wish I'd read this three weeks ago Louise - I spend hours on the 'bay looking at touring bags before I discovered Lomo. Then I thought: why not just use Dry bags, so I'm going to work on that..
Great tips Kate, what I get from this though is the feeling username dad’s garage is, in fact, a Go Outdoors warehouse!!!!! What would we do without dads!!
Good vid, I've just picked up a 125 today and though I have a full licence the insurance and mpg for a 125 atm is for me. I'm definitely into camping and great tips, thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤟 🤙
Bringing back memories of my 125 trip to the outer Hebrides back in 2017. Currently using this as winter camping advice/prep for the Dragon Rally in a couple weeks 😂
Enjoy, Kate! I'm beginning to gather items for an upcoming adventure from Iowa to Montana on my new to me 2012 Tiger. Hope you're well after your Germany mishap. Thanks for the lovely vids.
Loving your videos after only finding you not so long ago, nice trip to Germany shame about the 💥 hope you recovered ok, can't wait for the Scotland trip 👌🥰
I have almost identical saddlebags, bought off ebay. I found them great, but NOT waterproof ☹️ Strongly recommend fitting the covers, before you leave. Safe trip 👍
Very Informative . I've got some wratchet straps on order. Bungee cords . I'm not so sure how secure they'd be. As always a great video. I do wish you were going on the GS :)
Hi Kate, sorry see you have crash in Germany I hope you recovered and you weren't injured to much and you are getting better and hope you got every thing you need to go camping in Scotland and you enjoy it
My dad bought those panniers and we went over to France for a few days, cheap and cheerful, the zip didn't last more than a day though. Chucked them in the bin when we got back! It is what is it!
those silk liners are amazing, happy travels! have you ever read a book called one man caravan? it's about his solo world tour on a two cylinder douglas bike in 1932! with all the trials an tribulations! it's abit of a snapshot of the world as it was back then, I'm not much of a reader but it was given to me by one of my best mates so read it all , safe trip! x
I have camped a lot on weekend trips over the years, and for one night, you've taken the kitchen sink and the house too. I thought I was always well prepared 😂 I think I'd take about half of all of that. Defo not a stove for one night, but then I don't know where you're going to eventually camp and if there's some sort of amenities prior to you pitching up, that you could feed yourself at. Good to see you're back out after that awful slide. Braver than I, at this time of year. I'm well past doing winter riding. Let alone a tent in Scotland in the cold, on a 125 brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Great video, Kate! It was very informative for new moto campers with plenty of good reminders for more seasoned riders. I appreciate the way you approached the logic behind what to bring and how to pack things.
Enjoy the trip Kate, hopefully you will find it warmer than Germany. Was going to suggest the area around St. Mary's loch but Loch Ken is nice too. If you are using roll bags again use ROK straps lovely bit of kit I used for my last trip.
Well done. Great video great attitude 👍🏻 I'm 55 and been riding 38 years. Brilliant to see such enthusiasm from a young lady with such a love for biking. "Subscribed 😊👍🏻🏍"
Glad to see no side effects from your spill in Germany, The packing vid is great, but I'd personally use ROK straps (much more secure) or for maximum security Ratchet straps (but bulky), lots of people don't pack a rucksack, but if the height of the roll bag is correct, then the rucksack weight is taken by that, and is very easy to put a lot of weighty items in, keeping centre of gravity relative to bike. I have to say you're way more adventurous than me in terms of time of year (mind you are probably only a third of my age 😂) I like summer trips, with a bit of sun 👍 AND , I've downsized massively from 1250GS & 1290SAS to CRF300, does it all, but more relaxing and a LOT cheaper 👍
Well thought out and organised. I can't help but feel I wouldn't be anywhere near as organised as that. I'd be the one you see at the motorway services unpacking their luggage on the car park, trying to find their wallet :D
Bungees have just the right shape of metal hooks to scratch paintwork or if you're really unlucky 'ping' into the eyes at high speed! As others have said below, take Rok straps instead. Beyond that, few cable ties, gaffa tape, swiss army pen knife and perhaps a puncture repair outfit (they come with mini compressed air cylinders) to plug a tyre if necessary.
I saw your last vid in Europe and wondered why that Bastard didn't check that you were ok ? now you are camping in Scotland in Feb..... hats off to you Kate . I've biked Europe a few times on a Triumph Thunderbird 1600 so had a bit more kit , chair is a good idea , I found that a Helinox cot is a winner as well, good luck and be safe X
New to your channel but found you due to this video, I’m on a BMW F900R and just bought my first lot of motorbike camping gear so this was a super helpful vid thanks
Thumbs up for Jordan Peterson, Greetings with Best Wishes for a safe and fun trip. Brave Girl I must say, good for you, I will be looking for more videos, We have a much different Winter here in Canada.. Laughing Right Out Loud. Thanks for bringing us along.
@@daleleslie1049 Ah Canada - I've heard it said there are only two seasons in Canada; winter and construction! To be fair, UsernameKate has a probably the best Moto YT channel, there's lots to enjoy.
You have the same fun on a 125 than any other. People i know with adventure bikes dont go on adventures. I dont see the point in them really. Great vid. Roll your sleep mat and sleeping bag an liner all together and put it in a dry bag. Easier to set up an stays dry
At this time of year it can be enough of a challenge just getting too Scotland on a bike! Just take your clothes and meet your sister at a nice hotel instead 😃. There's no joy in camping, last time I did it was when I was 18 and it was a miserable experience 😂,I said to myself I'll never do that again, and I haven't to this day 40 year's on!!
Hi Kate, good luck on your trip, I look forward to seeing it. Not sure what that sleeping bag is like, but can recommend the Naturehike Down Sleeping bag. It packs down really small and is lovely and cozy! Also, I would consider putting sleeping bag and liners in the dry bag and not the panniers, just in case they leak 😊
Try putting your heavier stuff down low it will help with the handling of the bike, and I agree with others the cooking gear is a bit much for an overnight, a smaller gas canister and precooked food which just needs hot water will cut down on your packing needs. If you can get the Lomo 40 ltr barrel bag it can be strapped across your panniers and help to keep them from swing in when riding the bends, I am preparing for a trip to Scotland again this year but on my larger Rebel 1100 this time so weight is not such a problem as last year. I did the NC500 on my Honda125 Super Cub June 2022 1720 miles in a week as we live in Reading so 1720 miles getting about 120mpg carrying camping gear so it goes to prove you do not need a big adventure bike to do a tour. If you do tour carry a 2litr spare fuel can and remember if you have a small fuel tank work out your fuel stops before you go as the maximum range of the cub is about 90 miles the most I put in was £6 and that was when it was £2 a litre and the tank only hold 3.6 litres.
i'd never knock anyone camping, i've done it myself, but mainly i when younger i cycled & youth hostelled and used bunk barn type accommodation. It's not a lot of money, and all you need to mainly bother about is a change of clothes and can travel light with the minimum hassle. I once did a year around europe/north africa/middle east with just a saddlebag & good planning makes the job much simpler. I'm doing a bit on the motorbike now and keep to the same principles, i like the travelling & new places, but a warm dry bed, shower and a decent meal at the end of the day without the hassle of setting up and taking down (sometimes in the rain) is a chore i can do without lol. last autumn i did a trip of 400 miles in 2 days on my 125 with just a sports bag strapped on the rack, paid £20 for the nights accommodation, not much more than a campsite if you dont go wild, and apart from the odd coffee and meals had a fab time for almost nothing. I won't say i'll never camp again but it's lost it's appeal a bit especially now i'm over 60, but GL to those that do, i love to see it, it's character building that's for sure :)
Hi Kate a bit of local information for you if you do go around Loch Ken area checkout road 714 from new Galloway to Newton Stewart if you like twisties there is a wild camping sight on raiders road if you have a look on map also A visitor centre on Clatteringshaws res does great cakes and things , other than that there’s loads of places you can camp if you find Glentrool 712 out of Newton Stewart take tourist Road sign posted Loch Trool Bruce’s stone go past visitor centre about two miles road / track on right goes down to a carpark near stream you will find a place somewhere down there to camp it’s all quiet and pretty!
I've been to Loch Ken. It's quite nice 😊. It's about 2hrs drive south for me. If your surprised about a Loch named Ken. You will also be surprised that depending on where you are from in Scotland (mostly Edinburgh side) we say ken instead of the word know. So instead of 'I know what you mean' I would say 'a ken what you mean' 😊. Anyway looking forward to seeing your solo camping trip. I might try something like this myself at some point.
Nice video I would not put to much into the rucksack on a long journey it will kill your back and shoulders would put alot of the soft items in the rucksack and the bottled water and milk in the panniers to keep the weight low on the bike I would ditch the lantern and just use the headtorch for everything put your sleeping bag and liner into rubbish bags for extra waterproofing as rain always finds it way into those type of panniers can also use the rubbish bags to store your boot's ect inside the tent would add a tyre puncture repair kit and a small firstaid kit and some pain relief and some way to lock your bike up and don't forget your waterproofs and cutlery
Too well organized Kate. What % of the gear would compare to Hanna. Good thing you said the pink head lamp was borrowed from you Mom. Hope your warmer than the 0.5 F up from -1.5 F....it's a heat wave.
Hardcore winter camping 🥶 Hope you have a great trip Kate. Personally I'm chasing the sun this winter with an adventure ride around Morocco early March 🙌🌞
Can you download the kindle app onto your phone? You can take hundreds of books with no extra weight and no need for a torch to read. Also, you can get hand sanitizer with moisturizer now. I use it because my hands used to dry out too.
Putting the waterproof covers on the pannier bags before you leave can save a lot of faffing if you get caught in a sudden downpour, and will keep the bags clean from all the road crud at this time of year. Have a great trip !!
Clever! also saves a bit of space for sweets etc. :>)

Yep recommend Rok straps. Get that bag cinched on tightly
Good to see this type of video. As I got my CBT in Nov 2022 and bought a Honda CB125F. Just waiting for the British weather to improve.
Some belting views of the night skies in Galloway 👍
I use a Van Van 200 for backroads exploring and camping.

'Lush polyester', not two words I'd normally expect to see paired!
I'd recommend rok straps rather than bungy cords. Some plastic bags and some baby wipes are also worthwhile additions.

Hi Kate definitely put your sleeping bag in another dry bag that one bit of kit you don’t want to get wet 👍 safe travels ATB Trev
No camping wine? Imagine sipping on a nice red under the stars next to the campfire. Life complete.
Thanks for making this video Kate, novice rider me ,given me a insight for what I need for my wild camping adventures.

you're going the right way - so a 125cc Innova next then?! Now that's real Fun on two wheels
Brilliant vid Kate, very informative for a first time motorcycle camping trip looking forward to the next one..
Those bike side bags worked well
Some time ago you asked us what type of content we’d like to see…. Well this is right up my alley… 👍☺️ itchyboots Kate style 😉☺️… great!

I love this kind of chaos 🤣
Awesome video Kate, well done and thanks for sharing!! 👍👍
Went from Manchester to Croatia on a 250 Vespa. 2nd hand panniers, Tesco tent and a couple of bungees. Great fun 😁
Did I miss the cutlery? The only other things I’d pack are a small med kit and a small multi tool, just in case.
You know all the long bike trips I keep getting recommended is really tempting me to get a more upright bike
Bungees have just the right shape of metal hooks to scratch paintwork or if you're really unlucky 'ping' into the eyes at high speed! As others have said below, take Rok straps instead.
Hi Kate instead of the books you could download a few films before you leave

You look cute trying the bike and luggage for size with your slippers on LOL😀😀
Can you download the kindle app onto your phone? You can take hundreds of books with no extra weight and no need for a torch to read. Also, you can get hand sanitizer with moisturizer now. I use it because my hands used to dry out too.
Got those bags for my ktm use another strap between handles, two of my clips broke nearly lost them other wise good setup 👍
Kate, how is your ankle doing. Did the local Polizie catch the driver?
Check out ROK Straps. More secure hold than bungees and safer on the knuckles if you loose a grip of one.
Do you have any issues with your GoPro Kate?
