I agree about being able to damage the artifacts. I was thinking that the whole video, when you're just powering through the excavation phase about how delicate artifacts can be. Like, one tap marks a block with the white lines but if you tap it again the lines turn red as a warning. Any more taps and you break that block and can only excavate a "damaged artifact" which sells for less. Break enough and you destroy the artifact

    • @littlekong7685

Even things like special valuable blocks not related to the artifact. Like gem blocks that need to be knocked away and not hit directly for bonus coins. Or gold blocks that need to be hit from one side to drop a few coins otherwise they just vanish. Or magic blocks that need a special tool to disarm or it explodes damaging the blocks around it (Including the artifact). Lots of ways to increase the stakes without destroying the zen.

"I agree about being able to damage the artifacts"
just about the very first text that pops up says that if you hit an artifact block, you damage it.
poor mechanics, ideally you'd want a more realistic game where you have to carefully chip away, but this is proof of concept, so they put a very rough implementation in.

    • @cardomajig24

The issue with that is then the devs have to completely redo that part of the game from the ground-up while addressing none of the core issues with the demo. Good mechanics that can be built upon for gameplay > visual polish. Marked blocks will also probably be less buggy and use less math.

    • @bearnaff9387

@@lohroc1014 I could _almost_ see the devs doing just that. It would be a very crude representation of the object in blocks/voxels, but it could be done. Integrating the idea into a gameplay loop would involve rebuilding the uncovering minigame a bit, but could work as an enhanced puzzle element.
To whit: You use a scaper/chisel to knock away cruft until you uncover a "surface" for your object - which is just a cruft block that you shouldn't break and that you can use other tools on. You then switch tools to either a brush or a little air bladder and use this other tool to fully uncover the surface block, changing its texture to reflect whatever the underlying object is actually made of. This should reveal enough information to give an experienced player an idea of what they've got, so they can use the scraper to remove excess cruft quickly and use the brush/blower to uncover more blocks making up the object. Once all the cruft is gone, the blocky object turns into its complex model (as seen in the game) for further cleaning and processing.

    • @Leaga
      @Leaga 6 місяців тому +5

Either that or change the mark on the blocks to be the symbol when its in the stash. It'd feel more like you're revealing it and give more dynamism to the chipping away process because you'd quickly get an idea of the shape and be able to work towards that. Plus it could add a cool moment of excitement when you see a cool symbol you've never seen before or a hard to find item you have a contract for or something like that.

The first thing that came to mind when i saw this game was Potion Craft which is fairly similar, except in that game you brew potions, grow herbs, etc.
So I think for this they could add like, a bunch of new tools, different kinds of oils and chemicals used for cleaning, special requests from customers.
The one thing i'd love to see is like a "puzzle" artefact. For example you unearth it and its like, a piece of a sword or a fragment from an urn, and then overtime you slowly collect other pieces until you can eventually remake/reforge the full thing.

When I read the title, I really thought this would be a stealth scavenging game where you went from dungeon to battlefield to Evil Lair and "found" various things to take back to your people for trade and resell to other tallfolk. You'ld need stealth because if you wait for the danger to really pass then other scavengers will nick all the good stuff that's rightfully yours to steal.
The gameplay loop would be scavenge-sell to begin with, but you could invest in your people's wealth to get things like tailors to refurb cloth & leather, smiths to repair metal items and melt down unfixable ones, possibly mystics to handle magic, and some kind of smart goblin who knows how to talk to tallfolk to get wealthier customers. The eventual goal would be to secure some kind of safe future for your people where tallfolk buy thing you make from raw materials and no one has to risk their lives to nick items to resell unless they have something to prove.

I love the concept. It reminds me a bit of Strange Horticulture. I would make a few changes, though...
    1. The blocks... I'd ditch them entirely, and replace them with patches of dirt, barnacles or stone attached to the actual object, all needing different tools to get rid of.
    2. Customers: It feels too much like a factory process, rather than discovery, because you fix something, and low and behold, someone asks for it. I'd add a shipping bin, and rather than selling to customers directly, have them put in orders hoping you'll eventually find what they want, otherwise, I'd do away with them entirely, and have the object appraised and sold direct to a museum or trader.
    3. I would add not only sellable objects, but junk like buttons or glass or something. It makes it more diverse, and feels more like you're actually finding something interesting when you do.
    4. Crafting: With that junk, you might be able to find something that an object is missing, like polishing up a shard of glass, and chiseling out a lens for that magnifying glass, or a pair of specks. You can even find scraps (maybe even from breaking down uncovered objects) of cloth or leather to fix a sword hilt.

      Number 4 actually good
Imagine having a part from day 1 to be used on something on day 15 that makes the item 2000% more valuable
Number 2 is good too. Having a posting for people to see our wares and then have a couple of people give offers to the items
If we're going deeper we could ask them about their reason to own the item and even have some sort of lore. Something like "if you give the holy water bottle to the homeless kid on day 6, she will come back at day 13 to give you an item. Keep that item then on day 25 it will give some blessing to you" and gives a big lore opportunity

They actually spell out what is still feeling/is unfinished, and what they are planning to have in the case of missing features. This is a really neat concept for a game, but I definitely feel like they should maybe include a "Casual" mode like they're initially going for, and a more "Adept" mode or something where you do have some stakes at play like Splatt recommended as well. The more types of players you can appeal to the better, and I don't think it would require too much effort to include something like that as an optional mechanic? Either way though, I like what they're going for.

The stakes you described kind of reminded me of the excavation system in Fossil Fighters. There was a certain amount of clear bone you had to reveal of a fossil within a time limit for you to be able to revive it, and any more than that would increase the power of the resulting vivosaur. Removing crust pushed your progress ahead, but damaging the fossil put a limit on how much score you could get on it. The higher rarity/strength fossils would have much tougher grime for you to get through, but the time limit always stayed the same, so you'd have to risk damaging the fossil and getting a worse score or not uncovering enough and not being able to revive it at all, totally wasting it.

splat, buddy, get yourself a drillbrush. we're about the same age, and that thing saves my arm with the bathroom scrubbing. plus, its an excuse to use power tools, who doesnt love that?

the final tool you could not identify to me looks like a hand-held bellow. Like you squeeze the handles together and it blows air. Would be great for excavation.
    Nice realism.

"Today in the world of indie games" makes me so happy to hear.. I am getting really tired of the beautiful AAA titles that sell because of their looks and marketing budget. It's also a pain that platforms like Steam make it so hard to filter for indie titles now days. Thanks for making these videos, they really bring a lot of interesting projects to light that I'd otherwise be forced to miss.

What? ASMR is a tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. Did you really feel that at any part of this video, or are you just throwing out words you don't understand?

To be fair that is a goblin, that setup is a 5 star resort compared to there norm lol plus they're small cave dwellers a bed like that would be comfortable to them as they wouldn't have vertical posture like us but a hunched one from slouching in the caverns. Just to make you feel better about it lol

It does look quite cosy. All I can think about while watching this is "Dobby do good job?" It definitely needs a voldamort like alchemist/wizard hissing back "NO, YOU RUINED IT!" when you mess up. Probably not the vibe the devs are going for.
