You can get this monitor on Amazon here: geni.us/samsungchg90 (affiliate link) So many of you have been asking for the link that I decided to just post it instead of having you guys looking all over for it.
"it's about as wide as a 55" TV while at the same time being only half as tall" yeah but the price is still twice as much and the picture quality is about 1/8th of an OLED of half the cost or even less the pixel density is pure shit even on the G9 evo and it costs as much as buying 2 top end 55" LG OLEDS ,(C1 or G1) and it's only a shit VA panel , with barely any local dimming zones , I think it has like what 8 whole LED's LOL the light bleed is absolutely horrendous and they have flicker issues up the yin yang don't get me wrong I am totally sold on ultrawide but no 4k and no IPS or OLED ,horrible black levels horrible light bleed ,non existent dimming zones that are so bad you just need to turn the feature off completely, dull washed out colors ,screen door effect especially for productivity and all at double the premuim price of similar width TV but at half the height are all pretty big deal breakers for me , the sad fact is the picture quality still looks like complete ass but then again it does with 99% of computer monitors these days. I known the second I buy the G9 they will make huge improvements and this thing will look ridiculously outdated in 3 years time, especially since these are already pushing 4yo just buy an LG C1 55 OLED and cut it in half, voila . I mean seriously you could get a 55 OLED and cover the top end with black construction paper and have way better monitor for the half the price or the G9 evo just set the resolution to use the bottom half of the screen only , I feel like I am paying twice and getting less than 1/4 b.b.but muh refresh rates, yeah that still does not justify the price increase to me bendable OLED monitors are just coming out now the corsair one that goes all the way to 800R and it is the same width and speculated to be about 1300, Samsung is supposed to come out with a motorized version of the corsair basically and Samsung is playing games with the prices , it was $908 in my cart then it went up to $989 I sign on into another account and add the monitor again and it is $908, then it jumps up to 989 if I don't check out right away,
Whats the specs of your pc? I have a 21:9 1440p ultrawide and my 3080ti gets toasty, to say the least, on sth like control with max settings and 151fps
Using one 49" monitor since the beginning of COVID, as suddenly I was at home and did need to do a lot of programming for my internship aswell as not being able to travel for a while, and till this day I don't regret it at all. Started studying again after that internship, and I work so much more efficient due to this monitor.
Pro tip for FancyZones- if you shift+click and drag over the line where zones are split, the window will resize to include all those zones. So you could, for example, take the setup you have now and also bisect the screen horizontally and have six zones. Now, by hovering over the lines you get the same functionality you had before, plus space to make smaller windows with ease.

I had considered going for a super ultra wide monitor for my new PC setup, but went for a regular ultra-wide instead to save on costs. For ~€550 (found it as well for $550 in the US on amazon) got a 34" 144Hz 1ms 3440x1440 (21:9) curved monitor and I'm honestly extremely happy with it. You still need a beefy GPU for a monitor like this, and the productivity benefits are a bit less; but still, the 21:9 is so nice for regular use as well as for gaming and I don't think I'll ever go back to 16:9. So, if you are considering this but don't want to spend a fortune, consider scaling it down a notch, as you still get a lot of the benefits from an ultra-wide at less than half the price.
I got a Dark Matter 49" for $850 on Amazon. (looks like they're not on sale that low right now), and it's such a huge step up coming from 2x 1080 monitor setup.

Yes. I daytrade FUTURES and I need 3 charts visible all the time. The 49" makes it heavenly. I can have browser plus the executing software for my futures properly dispersed and no congestion.
I’ve had the Samsung 49” G9 awhile now and by far the feature I love the best is connecting two computers to it and invoking Picture in Picture mode which you can use to give each computer half of the lcd and then you can full-screen each computer on it’s own side. This configuration is huge when it comes to studying, having an available lab computer right there and for developers. Awesome!
When I brought my car up to the front of BestBuy to load my CRG9 into my car, the store manager came out and told me how much he loved this monitor. I was pretty stoked to have him come out of his way to tell me how much he loved a monitor. Once I got home and got it hooked up I was blown away at how functional by being able to change the amount of screen one input gets if you need to do a dual screen setup. I liked it so much that I went and got a 2nd one, one for work and one for personal!
I have considered one of these for years. I actually ordered one a couple of years ago and then ended up canceling the order. I definitely would go with a 1440 version though. 1080 is too low (I don't game so for productivity 1440 is much better). I also currently am running a 34" wide (2560x1440) so I'm used to that vertical pixel density (paired with a 27). Watching this makes me want one again.
@@bm_wuratli6883 replaced yesterday my 27inch asus rog strix xg27uq 4k 144hz with the samsung odyssey g9 paired with a 3090ti 12700k system. Cant even go back to 4k despite its 27inch ,too small after playing bf2042 fifa 22 f1 22 on ultrawide.
have you seen the QHD? it's still too low, it looks like garbage, I just saw the G9 next to the G9 evo there is hardly any difference, the evo looks a bit brighter , but they both looked washed out they both have screen door appearance ,low pixel density, there is no way the evo's price is justified the G9 is the best value when it is on sale for it[s lowest price of 999 or $900 but still WAAAAY overpriced for the extremely poor picture quality I have an old Sony vaio haswell ultrabook from circa 2014 ,this thing has a 13" IPS Sony triluminous display and after using it all these years every single time I look at any other PC monitor they all look like total shit to me , even at 6" I can not see a single pixel ,even if I lunge forward to 3" the blacks levels and contrast are amazing , color accuracy and color brightness are outstanding and viewing angles are near infinitely perfect , of course I can't game on it and not even sure what the refresh rate is but for video and productivity he picture quality is not even close to any monitors I full size PC monitors have seen , OLEDs are advancing at a rapid rate and so are mini LED's and QD TV's these PC monitors are like 6 years behind the curve and speaking od curves we has curves OLED TV's like 10 years ago when the industry gave up on them though now I am hearing they are bringing them back ,also the curved OLED TV's used to be cheaper than their flat counterparts because that is the default state of the panel when it rolls off the fab, they have to flatten them for the flat TV's. They are selling crappy VA panles that not only don't have any local dimming (unless you count the whopping 8 zones on the G9 ) but have no mini LED tech for backlighting, the backlighting in these monitors is in the dark ages and it shows ,it's worse than in a 10 year old bottom of the barrel wulmurt special BF door buster TV, I just got a C1 OLED with 120hz , 240 is ridic but I much rather have 4k ,higher pixel density and an amazing picture as opposed to something that looks like a CFL backlit LCD from 2010 , I love the 32:9 but come on step the game here we are not going to pay these premium prices for low pixel density VA panels with crap backlighting it should be about $600-700 tops for a good 1000R 32:9 4k OLED at 120 or 144hz when you consider that LG can deliver a 55" panel with the same specs for $1000 on sale that is twice the height of these things and when you consider that that is for flat TV and OLED come off the fad curved and it takes more time/ money/resources to flatten it out .

Have thought about one of these. For me, I use three monitors, and use them independently of each other while running sdr radio software. These large screens sure are clean
I have actually over the past year or so been considering one of these monitors. Thanks for the review! Probably going to wait for now on the purchase.
I looked into ultrawide monitors when I last upgraded, about 2 yrs ago. I love the idea, but was unwilling to give up vertical resolution. I ended up with a 32" 3840x2160 4K, and it's great. Hopefully ultrawides will be available in ultraresolution in time for my next upgrade.
@@maxxtechvideos7966 you missed the point of the poster....a 5180x1440 is still only 1440 vertical, which is why they like their 2160 vertical resolution of their 32". Vertical resolution needs fixed on these ultra wides, they are too narrow vertically
@@jamesw71 Except on a 2160p 4k monitor you are only seeing half the amount of things on screen in things, where as a 5120x1440 you are seeing twice as much horizontally, and the same as a 4k screen vertically.
I got the CRG9 and I couldn't go back to anything else either. I upgraded from a 32 inch monitor. Gaming on it is an experience that everyone should experience.
Same here. I started with the G7, then brought the CRG90G over the G9 (too curved). Best overall monitor ever for me - fantastic for mega excel workbooks, great for gaming. I run a 3080 so can handle the resolution at High for most games
Even if this gargantuan was too big for your desk, it might make a great example to use in a control room or a NASA space center, regardless of not gaming with it.
I bought the 49” Dark Matter from monoprice for $750. 120hz and 5120x1440 with a Samsung panel. I think the discontinued that version and switched to a different panel. Its been great no issues, I did find the stand to be to big like your review so I went with a monitor arm. I agree I could never go back to two screens!!

*_If you play MOBA games, you get the advantage of seeing your enemies approach earlier with this ultrawide._* *_Many isometric RPG's also get this benefit from an ultrawide._*
My 3 monitor setup : Dell U2711 27" 60Hz + LG 32GK650 32" 144Hz + Dell U2711 27" 60Hz The Dell monitors I got used for $70 each, LG was $300 new . Total price $440. And yes they fit on my 6 foot desk :)
The price of these 49 "5k monitors is a complete absurd ... Just take a look at the very low pixel density ... 109 PPI vs 140 PPI on 32" 4k display. Many people talks about productivity, but for the price of the one of these 49 "monitors, it's possible to buy 2 very good 32" 4k displays like eg: LG UltraFine 32UN880 or even 3 or more mid-range price 27"/32 "4k displays and they will be as much or even more productive as one ultra-wide. I don't know about you, but for me PPI matters... Additionally if one of the two or three monitors will fail, my productivity will not be disturbed while waiting for the broken one to get back from repair... not everyone is keeping old backup monitor in the basement.
I'm glad you mentioned that cause I feel that gets glossed over. In terms of productivity I definitely agree to discuss the price of this versus the ppi. Dual monitors has served me tried and true.
It's just wonderful how Microsoft couldn't be bothered to implement taskbar functionality in Windows 11, so that vertical space benefit you were talking about is literally not possible, the taskbar is stuck on the bottom.
I LOVE THIS MONITOR! It has MANY problems (I have the OG non mini LED one) but they are outweighed by the quality of life and productivity boosts for me. BY FAR!
@@Xueqs it would display these horizontal scanlines across the whole monitor occasionally. Only when certain images were shown...so weird. It hasn't happened in a long time (but still occasionally), so I think it's largely been fixed. And I'm assuming the next gen versions of this display don't have the issue.
@@RalphBarbagallo i see thanks for the reply. I'm watching this because I see them secondhand for like $200-300 and I'm wondering if there's some defect or something cause the price seems really good. But ig they're somewhat old now.
@@Xueqs Well the 1st gen one probably looks terrible compared to the new ones. But I still use it. It's an expensive upgrade to the Mini LED so I'm sticking with this for now. To be honest, the picture quality isn't that great--but I use my desktop mostly for development/work instead of games. I game largely on my OLED TV so I don't mind the display quality issues. I'm sure the Mini LED one looks spectacular though. I've seen the OLED in person and it looks cool--but it's quite a bit smaller (really narrower) than the MiniLED or 1st gen G9. So I'm going to hold out and upgrade to the Mini LED one eventually.
@@RalphBarbagallo interesting. I've been fascinated by monitors bc despite the technical specs being superior like 4k vs 1080p the monitor can actually look way worse.. I mainly care about the best image quality. I use my monitors for work and video editing but also use them for media. And I would like to go from 2 to 1 ultrawide. I mainly want the best picture. Should I go with a smaller newer like 1440p screen you think? My budget is only $300 so I can't really get anything crazy
I honestly cant believe your gaming on this full monitor! I went 34" ultra wide and I honestly wouldn't go any larger as I find my head rotating a lot back and fourth already!
I run a CRG9 49 and yes like you I am never going back but it took a long time for me to resolve the "older games" issue. Whilst there are several work arounds for displaying various games on an ultrawide that were not made for it I have found a rather odd but oh so useful option in the GForce Experience utility, yes an actual use for it other than advertising. True this only works for games with optimised drivers by NVidea but that covers nearly all of my gaming catalogue. In the home tab (where it shows the games) select the game you want under details, then click the spanner next to the optimes button, in the pop up window that appears select he resolution you want to use from the drop down and also select full screen. This for the games I have tried it on forces a full screen experience like watching a movie with the black bars either side, any attempt to do this ingame will break this so it still isn't that useable but it has worked for me with Skyrim and Fallout4 and gives better looking results for Halflife 2 than the in game options which work but have edge distortion.
I bought a regular ultra-wide. I only use it for work. So having one side with my source like a work order or picture and one side with my report makes a huge difference. It makes copying information over very easy and seamless. No hassle setting up and leveling 2 monitors and it was cheaper than 2 monitors.
Great video. I am curious as to how the ‘curved’ monitor works out. As a heavy Adobe user I have been afraid of the ‘curve’ and wondering if it makes straight lines, say for instance when working in Photoshop, look bent or distorted. Might consider one of these in the future.
It doesn't. The curve isn't that drastic. In fact, I have the Dell 49" Ultra Widescreen, and I regret not going waiting for the Samsung G9 series that has a much tighter curve. At normal viewing distances, the edges just aren't pulled in far enough for the best view.
@@lonewolf_521 the line will still show clearly, you will be able to tell if you look from the side but if you get a larger one than 27" you shouldn't have any issue sitting right in the middle
This is worth considering. After years of 2560x1440 WQHD 27" and now 32" I can see the benefits of the 49" ultrawide although my 32" gives 393mm of screen height, good for big documents. As I use it for work (spreadsheets, emails, other systems, videos, I would need to check if my laptop supports it.

So I bought the BenQ EX3501R 35" curved monitor about 2½ years ago at about 900 bucks.... and I simply love it. Its a 21:9, 100 Hz, 3440x1440 monitor and the colors, viewing angle and contrast are simply phenominal. I use the monitor as both a gamer and as a coder. Just opening Visual Studio on this monitor is a bloody joy ever time ;-)
I once bought a similar ultrawide monitor. It was a big mistake. I couldn't play any of the games I played before. Even if the games were running on this custom resolution a lot of the action from the left and right side of the monitor were way outside viewing angle. Most of them games were distorted on this resolution and the gpu has to calculate a lot more pixels for no reason at all. Movies were a nightmare and I had too much desktop space that I didn't knew what to use for. Now I use a 1080p 24 inch monitor AGAIN and I am super happy about it.
Yep. Dual monitors is way better especially if you game. I tried a single 49" screen.. ended up selling it. Only good thing is that you dont have a bezel in the middle and less wires lol
34" 21:9 ultrawide owner here. One disadvantage for gamers is that the minimap takes a split second longer to focus on. i.e. in a driving game it would be harder to check where you're going on the minimap without crashing into traffic because the map is further away.
Love your feedback and insights and the down to earth way you share your thoughts. I'm convinced and added this to my shopping list for Black Friday. Thank you.
This is the monitor that I wanted! My gamer husband convinced me that 49" was too big and a 34" ultrawide was more than enough. I work from home and use my ultrawide for AWS, and I really could have used the extra real estate that the 49" ultrawide would have provided for all the programs I use in AWS.
Thanks for the input. Order a Neo G9 to use with a new system equipped with a 4090 GPU and Intel 13th Gen i9 CPU. I also ordered two Neo G7s to check out 4K. Not sure I will need 4K, and hoping the Neo G9 works as advertised.
They get more and more affordable. I don’t need a fancy one, just for basic office work. Right now I have 3 in a big bulky, and unstable stand. The one screen will be beneficial for vision which is a huge benefit for productivity. If you can see without struggling work is so much easier and it’s so unpleasant and you don’t even realize you’re struggling until your prescription is useless. Huge part of the cause of dreading work
I have a 49inch ultrawide. However mine is the 144hrz 5120x1440, and everything looks AMAZING on it. Honestly after getting one, I could never go back to having 2 or 3 monitors on my desk.
I used to love Fancy Zones, and in a way I still do, but with Windows 11 build-in support for multiple windows is so good that I almost forget about FZ
i just bought a NEW g9 49in oled on flash sale for $1079 from Best Buy.. Yes after a week from owning, there are things i would change, like a 1000R curve opposed to 1800R. But Man this thing is amazing with playing games! Particularlly Starfield and Forza Horizon 5 and RDR2... OH!! and the friggin QD-OLED is AMAZING!! Dont listen to the Giganerds, this monitor is awesome!!!
Ergotron HX monitor arm. It’s not cheap, but considering how expensive the monitor is, I wanted to make sure it is safe. And it has worked perfectly :) no regrets
@@romeopahati Thank you :-) Can you move it in all directions with one hand? Does it have to be mounted on the back of the desk, or could be mounted on the right side?
I decided having more vertical pixels outweighs the benefits of an ultrawide so bought a 43” 4K instead. It can do PiP, can also split screen up to four inputs and has USB-C that can charge the laptop too.
@@culesamericano9929 It’s primarily my work from home monitor so I don’t use it for gaming. Also OLED at that size is pretty expensive… it’s so big you have to buy a special arm if you want to mount it to your desk, the arm costs $300 😏
You should have got the Samsung G9 49” Qled. It has QHD resolution. It’s not 4K, but close enough. (5120 X 1440) plus it has 240 hz. Games look absolutely amazing on Samsung G9. Even if you run it only at 120hz, it still looks stunning. The 1000R curvature is the best part. Only monitor I have ever heard of with this much curvature.
Got myself G9 a few weeks ago. Loving it! Windows 11 has 1:2:1 window split which i use the most of course. 3 monitors in 1 ! G9's resolution (1440p) is not that great. Pixelation can be noticeable on text, expecially if you're coming from a 4K monitor like i did... i can't really understand how are you living with 1080p.
@@precisi0n86 that's true, couldn't agree more about gaming, especially with this gpu situation. But for everything other than games, 1080p hurts my soul. The amount of stuff that you can fit on it and the text quality is just miserable at that scale.
Most people don't know or try, but you can still play ultra-wide on a 16:9 by adjusting the resolution... 21 by 10 is the sweet spot for me when it comes to games, any more than that I would prefer to take on a VR head-set if I could even afford one.
1440 vertical pixels is still just the absolute minimum for me. As cool as this would be, I think I'd be happier with a 38" ultraWide w/ WQHD+ Rez (3840x1600).. like a Dell Ultrasharp U3821DW. I've currently got a 34" UW on my home-office PC and a 32" 4K for docking my Mac.. and I spend 90% of my time on Macs. Either format is great, but I think I'm just a little bit more partial to having the extra height. Actually, I've been keeping my eye out for a quality 43" wide-screen 4K that I could possibly run at native resolution. I bought one maybe 5 years back for a user's CAD workstation (was it an LG?) and it was absolutely awful. It looked like it was a 4:2:2 panel (like a TV) so text and fine diagonal lines rendered jagged. Huge disappointment.
They really are good to work with. However, one-thing that can really make me pass is the height. They are narrower than a standard monitor which is an issue if you work with long data sets as opposed to wider ones
I love the looks of this one, and it was also on sale and very tempting not so long ago 😅 ... but since my 3x27" setup works the wonders I need, and I mostly work with text files, I am happy with my current setup. I have a curved 34" for the field work, and it might look insane dragging it around, but it almost feels like being in my own office (rather than going around with one 27"). All said, curved ones are a thing of beauty, and especially come in handy for gaming etc. But for office use, I'll stick with my triple setup for now ... (*trying to convince myself into not buying one big one* 🤣).
Not enough vertical space for me, I'm afraid. I use a 55" 3840x2160 and a 28" 1920x1080 so that they have the same dpi. The 55" 4K can fit 100 lines of code in VSC in each of half-a-dozen panes if I need, or eight pages of A4 portrait at 100% zoom. Gaming and playing videos at 4K, or simply having four full HD windows in place means it's a whole new experience over my old HD monitors. I fully understand the attraction of the ultra-wide for increasing your horizontal space; perhaps you can appreciate the value of increasing your vertical real estate by the same factor?
@@llothar68 Unfortunately, I'm now 70 years old and my eyes are not what they were at your age. I find that with a 40" screen, I need the zoom set so that I can't get as many lines of code as I want on the screen. It's also useful because my other monitor is a 28" 1920x1080, so the pixel pitch is the same, and I can throw windows from one screen to the other with the text remaining the same size. For what it's worth, I have a friend who has one-sixth vision (registered blind) and he uses a 65" 3840x2160 OLED. He needs every inch of the screen when he's programming.
Ahh another man of distinguished taste, using the triple zone setup... I have the predecessor of the Odyssey the LC49RG but it's 1440p. Fancyzones was amazing when I found it and makes a 32:9 montior a productivity monster. But as a gamer myself I took it a step further using StartAllBack to split my taskbar in two giving me full vertical resolution in the middle. I then wrote my own software to maximize windowed games into this area and remove the window borders (hit me up if you'd like to try it). So now I can chill playing games in full 16:9 2560x1440 whilst having comms and web browser etc. open on either side. I do sometimes game in 32:9 and it's very immersive but performance takes a hit and the peripheral areas are not really in your field of view anyway.
This size monitor + higher resolution + passive 3d would be interesting for gaming. Cherry on the top would be trackIR style head tracking to correct the camera perspective.
I love this video. This monitor seems like a life-changer. I couldn't help notice the setup of your mouse and keyboard. If you're looking to improve life with the PC even more I suggest a more ergonomic setup if you haven't tried it. It's worth trying a keyboard wrist pad. I recommend Glorious PC Gaming Race. And if you want to take a healthier step further, give the Evoluent vertical mouse a try. It takes some getting used to but your future wrist and hand will thank you.
Not only did I fall in love with mine…..I want to get another one so I would have two. One on top of another. After using 8 monitors at work for Sprint at one time.
When you factor in the true 10-bit color depth without FRC and compare it to a dual monitor setup with similar specs the cost difference suddenly is much more negligible. The new CRG9 is an absolute productivity beast...
I've run ultra-wide displays for years, and, having still used normal displays on a regular basis, won't ever go away from it on my main rigs. The discussion of "ultra-wide vs. larger" on PCMR comes up too often, as far too many people misunderstand the purpose of an ultra-wide. I currently have 3x ultrawide screens on my main rig (1x 34", 2x 27"), and a single one on my secondary rig (1x 34"), and they are worth every penny.
Nice. I need to try one of these widescreens. I have 3 x 40in monitors and 2 x 24in monitors on top all on the one pc. I find the separation great as I do VR dev and coding. No gaming. But maybe a widescreen above 40 in screen. lol.

Noticed you are using Airpods Pro. How are you connecting them to the Windows machine and still getting proper quality? Btw, with a little work, you can overlap zones in FancyZones, to get more shapes in. I do this to allow a 27" center zone, 2 full height sides, and then also allow to split the side zones into two horizontally, for getting 2 command lines into each side zone. I Bought Samsung G9 Odyssey, and OMG i love it. I use it for gaming purposes, and while some games does not support resolution like that, it's still an insane experience. It's hard to find good wallpaper though, so i have to crop and make them myself, from images i like, most of the times. It doesn't need that much of a monster GPU as people tend to think. Pixel count is similar to 27" 4k monitor, so it needs similar power. I use 1080ti and it seems like enough to get 100FPS on most games.
You can get this monitor on Amazon here: geni.us/samsungchg90 (affiliate link)
So many of you have been asking for the link that I decided to just post it instead of having you guys looking all over for it.
"it's about as wide as a 55" TV while at the same time being only half as tall"
yeah but the price is still twice as much and the picture quality is about 1/8th of an OLED of half the cost or even less
the pixel density is pure shit even on the G9 evo and it costs as much as buying 2 top end 55" LG OLEDS ,(C1 or G1) and it's only a shit VA panel , with barely any local dimming zones , I think it has like what 8 whole LED's LOL
the light bleed is absolutely horrendous and they have flicker issues up the yin yang
don't get me wrong I am totally sold on ultrawide but no 4k and no IPS or OLED ,horrible black levels horrible light bleed ,non existent dimming zones that are so bad you just need to turn the feature off completely, dull washed out colors ,screen door effect especially for productivity and all at double the premuim price of similar width TV but at half the height are all pretty big deal breakers for me , the sad fact is the picture quality still looks like complete ass but then again it does with 99% of computer monitors these days. I known the second I buy the G9 they will make huge improvements and this thing will look ridiculously outdated in 3 years time, especially since these are already pushing 4yo
just buy an LG C1 55 OLED and cut it in half, voila .
I mean seriously you could get a 55 OLED and cover the top end with black construction paper and have way better monitor for the half the price or the G9 evo just set the resolution to use the bottom half of the screen only , I feel like I am paying twice and getting less than 1/4
b.b.but muh refresh rates, yeah that still does not justify the price increase to me
bendable OLED monitors are just coming out now the corsair one that goes all the way to 800R and it is the same width and speculated to be about 1300, Samsung is supposed to come out with a motorized version of the corsair basically
and Samsung is playing games with the prices , it was $908 in my cart then it went up to $989
I sign on into another account and add the monitor again and it is $908, then it jumps up to 989 if I don't check out right away,

Using one 49" monitor since the beginning of COVID, as suddenly I was at home and did need to do a lot of programming for my internship aswell as not being able to travel for a while, and till this day I don't regret it at all. Started studying again after that internship, and I work so much more efficient due to this monitor.
for engineering work, having a drawing, a checklist, and a spec up at the same time would be amazing

This has opened my eyes. Am thinking about buying a gaming pc to run Microsoft sim and I think a screen like this would make it an awesome experience
Its fantastic for sim games!
So, if you are considering this but don't want to spend a fortune, consider scaling it down a notch, as you still get a lot of the benefits from an ultra-wide at less than half the price.
unless u have a gpu to push it, its not worth it
What brand or model is the monitor that you bought ?
I got a Dark Matter 49" for $850 on Amazon. (looks like they're not on sale that low right now), and it's such a huge step up coming from 2x 1080 monitor setup.

Awesome!
But can you also virtualize a separate display for games that just run better in actual full screen?
I would actually love this feature

Love FancyZones. I started using it the day I got my ultrawide. I went from dual 24" to a single 32" curved ultrawide.
Ultrawides are incredible, can't recommend them enough!

it's still too low, it looks like garbage, I just saw the G9 next to the G9 evo there is hardly any difference, the evo looks a bit brighter , but they both looked washed out they both have screen door appearance ,low pixel density, there is no way the evo's price is justified the G9 is the best value when it is on sale for it[s lowest price of 999 or $900 but still WAAAAY overpriced for the extremely poor picture quality
I have an old Sony vaio haswell ultrabook from circa 2014 ,this thing has a 13" IPS Sony triluminous display and after using it all these years every single time I look at any other PC monitor they all look like total shit to me , even at 6" I can not see a single pixel ,even if I lunge forward to 3"
the blacks levels and contrast are amazing , color accuracy and color brightness are outstanding
and viewing angles are near infinitely perfect , of course I can't game on it and not even sure what the refresh rate is but for video and productivity he picture quality is not even close to any monitors I full size PC monitors have seen , OLEDs are advancing at a rapid rate and so are mini LED's and QD TV's
these PC monitors are like 6 years behind the curve and speaking od curves we has curves OLED TV's like 10 years ago when the industry gave up on them though now I am hearing they are bringing them back ,also the curved OLED TV's used to be cheaper than their flat counterparts because that is the default state of the panel when it rolls off the fab, they have to flatten them for the flat TV's.
They are selling crappy VA panles that not only don't have any local dimming (unless you count the whopping 8 zones on the G9 ) but have no mini LED tech for backlighting, the backlighting in these monitors is in the dark ages and it shows ,it's worse than in a 10 year old bottom of the barrel wulmurt special BF door buster TV, I just got a C1 OLED with 120hz , 240 is ridic but I much rather have 4k ,higher pixel density and an amazing picture as opposed to something that looks like a CFL backlit LCD from 2010 , I love the 32:9 but come on step the game here we are not going to pay these premium prices for low pixel density VA panels with crap backlighting
it should be about $600-700 tops for a good 1000R 32:9 4k OLED at 120 or 144hz
when you consider that LG can deliver a 55" panel with the same specs for $1000 on sale that is twice the height of these things and when you consider that that is for flat TV and OLED come off the fad curved and it takes more time/ money/resources to flatten it out .

Could not agree more. PPI is king and these 49" monitors really need to be at 8k for me to consider them
It's just wonderful how Microsoft couldn't be bothered to implement taskbar functionality in Windows 11, so that vertical space benefit you were talking about is literally not possible, the taskbar is stuck on the bottom.

I'm sure the Mini LED one looks spectacular though. I've seen the OLED in person and it looks cool--but it's quite a bit smaller (really narrower) than the MiniLED or 1st gen G9.

I went with the Ultra Wide Alianware 38" about a year ago and i just love it, i will never go back
Most people don't know or try, but you can still play ultra-wide on a 16:9 by adjusting the resolution...
21 by 10 is the sweet spot for me when it comes to games, any more than that I would prefer to take on a VR head-set if I could even afford one.
You always come with Best tech content . Thanks mark .
0:25 my words as well after i got myself a G9 Neo. This thing is just insane for both gaming and work.
Although ... 49" would look amazing on top of the triple setup (*stop it*) 🤣
hahaha@@pavli33
what's you current set up brands
Snagged my 49 inch, 240hz, 2k LG monitor for $650 a few days ago. So excited for it!
that jump to D&D earned you a like brother
I LOVE my 30" 21:9. I wanted a 32:9 but I couldn't afford it. But yea, ultra and super ultra wide's are awesome.
55". in 4k is a waste. I have 40" and think this is the max.
Friggin AWESOME!!!!! New Sub Cheers from Western Australia
I run the G9 model, can't say enough great things about it.
38 Inch Dell '21 model here. UW for life!
Ultra-wides are nice, but LG’s 42” OLED is delicious and changed the game (especially if you’ve got a PS5 or Xbox on HDMI2). Only way to go.
Nice insigts! thanks for sharing, looking forward to making my first ultra-wide monitor purchase soon.
Have you tried this with a mac?
This looks like it would be so productive! Do you still have this or have you upgraded?
I've run ultra-wide displays for years, and, having still used normal displays on a regular basis, won't ever go away from it on my main rigs. The discussion of "ultra-wide vs. larger" on PCMR comes up too often, as far too many people misunderstand the purpose of an ultra-wide. I currently have 3x ultrawide screens on my main rig (1x 34", 2x 27"), and a single one on my secondary rig (1x 34"), and they are worth every penny.
Never knew about the powertoys/fancyzones, thanks mate!
Nice. I need to try one of these widescreens.
I have 3 x 40in monitors and 2 x 24in monitors on top all on the one pc.
I find the separation great as I do VR dev and coding. No gaming.
But maybe a widescreen above 40 in screen. lol.

FABULOUS review and I'm just about to buy the one below tomorrow and I'm only hoping and praying that this is one of the good ones and not one that has many bad points but anyway this is the best I can see in New Zealand so I'm going for it it's 1700 NZD but hey we shall see. Samsung C49RG90 49" Super Ultrawide Dual QHD 120Hz Curved Gaming Monitor 5120x1440 - 4ms - QLED - 2x DisplayPort - HDMI - USB - AMD FreeSync - HDR1000 - 125% sRGB - Height / Swivel / Tilt Adjustable - 100x100 VESA
I get my UltraWide HDR Samsung Oddessy G9 48.9 inch, very soon. I am excited to test it out in person
This lets me have a full 27" IDE in the center, and 4 command lines running docker logging for 4 specific microservices I want to see
The ideal ultrawide for me would be 21:9, 29 inches 1440p. Simple, my real desk space I don't want to loose more of it.
You sold me when you brought up d&d. It’s so annoying constantly switching from my character sheet to the battle map
Ayyy Right Taskbar Gang rise up!! Just imagine the amount of wasted space with the windows 11 default placement.
Yo Mark. I don’t normally write, but you have a knack for this and you’re great at it. Well spoken, very detailed and excellent charisma on the camera. New subscriber here.
Thanks so much!
Welcome to the Ultrawide master race!
