- Supporters of the Tiverton hunt returned to see the spectacle of the Tiverton Foxhounds parade through the town centre.
The event - on Monday, December 27 as Sundays are non-hunting days - saw around a dozen protestors gather at the Pannier Market where the Tiverton Foxhounds greet their supporters.
Placards by those taking part in the vocal protesting read ‘trail hunts kill foxes’ and ‘enforce the ban’.
The majority of hunts in England went ahead with festive meet plans, given that government guidance on outside events remains unchanged.
In addressing the crowd, Demelza Barnes, from the Tiverton Foxhounds said: “I’d like to thank everybody for coming this morning. It’s been two years since we met and it’s lovely to see everyone supporting us. I’d also like to thank the Half Moon pub for hosting this and our farmers and landowners.
“We’d like to thank Harry and Jack our hunt staff for their hard work and dedication through the season and over Christmas.
“We are hunting within the law and our first trail has been laid. We hope everyone has had a merry Christmas and I wish you all and your families a very happy new year.”
Neil Parish MP for Tiverton & Honiton added: “It’s great to see you all here. We live in a democracy so we can all have our freedom of speech can we not? I think the majority have it today; I think the ayes have it.
“You are trailing and hunting within the law, and the law of the land says you can do that.
“What you have to remember, is in a constituency like Tiverton & Honiton, the hunting and this sport is very necessary. It’s not just about hunting, it’s about gymkhanas and everything that goes with it as well as farming.
“This is a constituency that relies hugely on farming and I very proudly try to stand up for this constituency, for agriculture and for trail hunting withing the law.”

Flytipping womble .yes you are quite right they are all underhanded liers, gamekeepers farmers hunting stables up & down the country know exactly where fox dens are located (done this for years even feeding them making sure there are enough poor animals to throw out before a hunt starts) I love foxes but when they become extinct I will breath a sigh of relief for them, the scumbags will still go hunting chasing rabbits , roe deer the dogs have sometimes come across pet cats & torn them apart never ever here about that though, did you know that before cats became so abundant in this country that foxes staple diet were rats rabbits & any other carrion they came across!!!

Your child like explanation sort of says that fox's are looked after on hunting land which is true, I never go down the pest control route it's about a natural balance and killing weak fox for a healthy population, it's our sport and we will keep doing it 20 years and still hunting people of all classes out every single week with dogs of various breeds and it will always continue.

With several "people "on horses and a pack of hounds relentlessly chasing a fox and then once it is exhausted the pack will mercilessly tear it apart. This "tradition"was made illegal in the UK in 2005 ...so it is now a criminal offence to do it .Hunters these days say that they lay a false trail for the dogs to follow which has been proven to be total lie.. so every week these people go out and break the law and nothing is done about it ..so animal lovers and normal people feel the frustration.

The female speaking on the horse seemed to be holding the rains on her horse too tight (as in with too little slack) and the horse was clearly in distress. This seems to imply to me a novice ridder or a lack of connection (even empathy) towards her horse.

Most that support fox hunting are of this class along with of course the farmers who are surrounded by middle class toffs at every angle though themselves may not be. They are generally astranged from society by the nature of their work anyway.

This protects the land and animals, also allows hunting to take place. Without hunters and their natural desire to hunt, no one would care about the land and animals, and eventually the land would go for builders to build homes. I love hunting and I promote to protect to protect the wild life.
