Great great great!! Was nervous something was "ACTUALLY" wrong. Thanks for the lesson. Everything is perfect again. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
I had this problem too. Resetting IMU and calibrating gimbal is just jumping through DJI's hoops. FYI, this camera can focus perfectly when sitting still. But when you fly it, there is some type of vibration that makes the sides of the video go out of focus. Your focus is not fixed, you have just been doing busy work and DJI hopes these things have the placebo affect on your mind. Will not affect your focus when flying. Problem is really with the little rubber things that stabilize the gimbal... they don't work well. Sent mine back, they need to fix/improve the design of the gimbal mount before I'll buy again. Mavic is an amazing flying machine, they just released it too soon (to sell a million before Christmas). Now you know the real answers.
Thank you Tee. I was doing a range test video yesterday and the entire image was fuzzy even when trying to focus. I will try IMU, Gimbal, and camera reset :) Thank you for the video.
i bet it had more to do about resetting camera settings and re-calibrating gimbal than it had to do with IMU. Unless the imu has camera related functions stored on it, which defies logic. I wonder just as a student of engineering why they don't have those 2 forward sensors facing the rear of the craft to better help monitor objects the camera can't see. I think it would benefit the user far more at the rear of the craft than the front of it.
During my IMU calibration I also had a hard time to realise that the Mavic Pro needed to lay sideways... the picture was not clear to me so I waited and waited... and waited until I realised to put it sideways and in all directions afterwards... great video. Thanks! :)
No problem. It was the second placement where I didn't realize to turn it sideways,... so I waited for like 10 minutes. Nothing critical at all, I was just my stupidity. :)
Right third of my video/stills is also out of focus. I have returned the drone, awaiting a new one. None of the calibrations made any differnce. Fantastic drone and cant wait to fly again…..
thanks for this man. between options 2-4 or 5 I got fixed. I think it was the camera reset. I wish i knew this before I shot my film last week. Life lessons. Thanks again man
My camera was out of focus in the bottom corners. I've followed your instructions and it seems to have fixed it! Will need to test it tomorrow outside, but looking promising so far :)
:( You made me worry so I tested the focus on my DJI Mavic and it focuses just fine. I know I stated that if you have limited time then only do the IMU calibration. Did you follow all 4 steps or just the IMU calibration?
Resetting the camera settings once you see the corners are blurry fixes this issue. Mine is blurry 3/4 times I turn on the drone. The reset fixes the issue. Just need to refocus once it resets. Annoying, but it's better than no fix.
This mavic drone appears to be carrying so many issues from factory. That's why I would buy a Phantom 4 Professional as my next drone instead, or simply wait for the Phantom 5 to come out. That's the reason why I don't like to rush buying new products until they are completely proven by the people who adventure to buy them first... Good luck with your drone...
In a million years I would have never thought that problem could be corrected without sending it in for servicing. I still don't get at all how making changes in software could have fixed it. I don't see at all how it could be anything other than a physical defect with the lens or the image sensor. Did you I fact try flying it again to verify it is in fact corrected?
Interesting but can you then still do the depth of field effect...so center is in focus and fore-field and background out of focus??... I saw this mentioned on another Mavic Pro tutorial on UA-cam...Thanks Laurie
You can, just touch the foreground object then the background will be blurred. However, If both the foreground and background are quite far, all will be in focus. This is called focus to infinity. You can turn on Manual Focus and use the slider and play around with it. See this video, I believe it was Tip #5, ua-cam.com/video/i0_bLbClkpg/v-deo.html
While I agree that it looks that way, I briefly owned a Mavic that made videos every bit as blurry on the sides as shown here. Mine went back, and I am still waiting for a Better Mavic, because mine was so not acceptable. The camera on my Phantom 4 Pro is so excellent, I'm not willing to go backward now. But I will buy the next generation of Mavic Pro.
+series25a There is a whole forum on DJI about the issue. DJI tech denied having knowledge of the issue. Speculations online stating that there was a batch that has this issue, which might have caused the reason for delay. I don't mind since I was able to fix it without having to send back. Shout out to Lilian from DJI support for staying on the phone with me for 2 hours to resolve it. I did lost one night of sleep just dreading about having to send back for repair and wait 2-3 weeks for it.
Tried IMU calibration, gimbal and cam reset but did not work... My issue is not just about auto focus - even with manual focus the image is still blur when I set the focus to infinite. There must be something wrong with the cam. Will need to contact DJI support. Besides another issue the horizon is not flat, every time after I adjust the offset, it became uneven again. Sigh! Seriously doubt I got a bad model!
+Elvin Yang Sorry to hear about your drone. I must have had a less severe problem with my Mavic. If there is anything else I can help you while you send the Mavic back, please do ask.
Hello.. mine recently got this issue but worse... all the screen is out of focus... I upgradated and continue like this... I just was without use few days, and flying again nowadays I see this problem... after so long time turning on and off the aircraft I can see the image clean and good with focus. I did your steps and didnt work. What to do? Thanks
TeeWin this stays like this just several times turning on and off... but now if I turn on will be blurry image... so u cant tell me why this is happening?
If you go through all 5 steps and still does not work. Then please try calibrating again. If after that still does not work then you should call support and possibly send back.
Have the same problem. Will not focus in AF or MF. It was working perfectly then second flight it was blurry and unfocused. Ive reset everything and still looks terrible
+Thiago Javier I got mine on Nov 1 to Colorado and I ordered on the same day it was introduced which is on September 28th 2016 to Colorado. Try buying it on Amazon if you have Amazon Prime.
Tee Win Sorry but no. Those videos are simply not in focus or they are focused on the wrong distance. There is no such thing as focus just in the center of the frame
+Pierluca72 Which was the reason why I had to call DJI Support. Some people on DJI forum were having focus issue on the left and some on the right. Mine seems to be in the extreme. If you touch to focus, you assume that it will focus the whole screen, assuming that the foreground and background are far enough. I'm glad that mine is fixed. Thanks for watching.
Leave it to the guy who isn't having the problem to tell people who ARE having the problem that the problem doesn't exist. If you have nothing helpful to add take your hands off the keyboard.
I have same issue, But from one side - IMU calibration, gimbal and cam reset but did not work for me. A lot off people write about this issue: forum.dji.com/thread-69767-2-1.html

I can wait to see your new videos now in FOCUS :)
Thanks so much for this video..just got my Mavic yesterday and had this blurry image issue..followed your steps and nows its perfect...Thanks again
+MrBallycallan You are most welcome. Remember to fly it a couple times to see if the issue comes back.
@@MrTeeWin Thanks a lot. Unfortunately after problem solved, the blurry image came back. Again and again. After a several IMU cal. Any idea? Thx
During my IMU calibration I also had a hard time to realise that the Mavic Pro needed to lay sideways... the picture was not clear to me so I waited and waited... and waited until I realised to put it sideways and in all directions afterwards... great video. Thanks! :)
+Daniel Saredi They should made the image pop in and out or focus our attention somehow
Totally, just some animated clip or so... ;)
Not trying to hijack this, but imo you can clearly see the picture change on the IMU Calibration... :P
No problem. It was the second placement where I didn't realize to turn it sideways,... so I waited for like 10 minutes. Nothing critical at all, I was just my stupidity. :)

Pls help. My mavic pro’s focus but the footage is foggy. It’s like there’s a lot of smoke everywhere. How can i fix this. Thanks
Nice Info..worked for me...thanks man..subscribed
Thanks Shivam and have a nice day.
thanks for this man. between options 2-4 or 5 I got fixed. I think it was the camera reset. I wish i knew this before I shot my film last week. Life lessons. Thanks again man
You are welcome.
Worked for me!! Thanks very much
My camera was out of focus in the bottom corners. I've followed your instructions and it seems to have fixed it! Will need to test it tomorrow outside, but looking promising so far :)
+Paul Richardson Please do report back
it didn't work. Tested it outside today and the problem persists! I'm going to send it back..
:( You made me worry so I tested the focus on my DJI Mavic and it focuses just fine. I know I stated that if you have limited time then only do the IMU calibration. Did you follow all 4 steps or just the IMU calibration?
Tee Win I did all four steps.. if the supplier says it will take a while for a replacement I'll try the imu calibration one last time.
Thanks for the tips. Maybe could you lower the music. It's a little distracting.
+Ken A I'll keep that in mind, thanks Ken.
I agree. The music is much too loud. In fact, why have any background music at all? It is very distracting.
+Bob Kelly I have been setting the music to 50% since. Thanks for the suggestion.
How the hell can IMU calibration affect image focus? Your out of focus video looks like diorama effect.
+belgianquill I asked the same question to the DJI tech, she does not know either. I was desperate and just went with it.
belgianquill I honestly think it was the camera reset
icmd nola That sounds more likely.
Before I called DJI, I already did the camera reset and gimbal auto calibration. It did not work.
Resetting the camera settings once you see the corners are blurry fixes this issue. Mine is blurry 3/4 times I turn on the drone. The reset fixes the issue. Just need to refocus once it resets. Annoying, but it's better than no fix.
Yeah, that is actually the norm with the Mavic. One of the biggest complaint when it came out.
Mine is blurry like yours but resetting and following all of these steps doesn't work. Can you suggest anything else?
No, try send back to support
thank you so much! that fixed my problem ! I did everything you said and no more pb of focus !
You are welcome
Nice video, thumbs up from us and cheers from sunny IGY Simpson Bay Marina, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
I COULD KISS YOU RIGHT NOW!!! Thank you so much for this video! Fixed my problem with blurry right side and inability to focus on things up close.
+Gabriel Nelson You’re Welcome.
Maybe a foolish question here, but are you filming with the protective plastic cover over the camera..?
+Jay Christian No, it was a defect in the camera. I made another video to show how I'd fixed it.
Thank you. Looking forward to trying this with mavic 2 pro. The pics are clean and good but the video poor and used to be better. T

+Josh Levinson I will fly it again on the weekend, will report back.
How did your further testing go?
+Josh Levinson my Mavic is still good.

We really enjoyed watching this video. The MAVIC PRO is AWESOME! We had to get one too. SMASHED THAT LIKE!
I am nearly sure, this blur with masking is done in post production!
+Latexisgood "Ain't nobody got time for that"

Fox Run Regional Park Colorado? I used to live within walking distance.
+Bryson Hicks yes, are you still in the Springs?
Haha no way. Unfortunately I moved and am now in Glenwood Springs, but I visit CO springs every so often.
Great Vid
Is this an issue for all Mavic's? I never noticed anything on mine..
+series25a There is a whole forum on DJI about the issue. DJI tech denied having knowledge of the issue. my mavic pros footage looks like a block of jello sitting on a washing machine at full spin
+TDubsKid have you tried my suggestions?
yeah didn't work unfortunately, just sent it in for repair today

WNFWO7 am so piss rite now ....mines was working fine then went blurry can’t get it fix
How long is DJI delivering the Mavic pro in California?
Where can I buy that delivery faster.
thanks
+Thiago Javier I got mine on Nov 1 to Colorado and I ordered on the same day it was introduced which is on September 28th 2016 to Colorado. Try buying it on Amazon if you have Amazon Prime.
+Thiago Javier I ordered a battery with it also but it hasn't arrived yet. They are really backordered.
The backing music is disturbing. Good job on the video anyway!
Nice video. I actually like that tilt-shift focus effect, though I'd prefer it to be in a setting you can enable rather than on all the time. ;)
nice explanation, thanks!
You the man for this.
dude please reupload this without techno music...
what's the name of the first song in this video
+icmd nola I'll look it when I get home
Club Thump - Gunnar Olsen
thank you I'd appreciate it
tx for tips, more tips en tricks...:)
Very helpfull
saludos desde México.
This softness that you are showing looks created in post. There is no way the mavic camera could make that optically
+Pierluca72 There are many posts in DJI forum with others having similar issues. If you are one of them, I hope this helps.
Tee Win Sorry but no. Those videos are simply not in focus or they are focused on the wrong distance. There is no such thing as focus just in the center of the frame

Sorry I'll have to find someone who isn't a frustrated DJ showing how to do this... :-(
couln't watch - music
Sorry, I am better now.
