Excellent video! What you did is keeping a safe distance from a very volatile situation! I thought the utility pole was going to burn as the flames were licking it big time! Back in 2000 their was a major gas leak right at the Morris Plains Parsippany border. Rt10 had to be closed in both directions! Finally the gas company arrived and shut off the gas. The biggest problem for ALL is that the ruptured gas main was in the woods!
Impressive the response level in the United Stated for a Gas Line Fire! Congratulations to all the emergency services. Fantastic footage, perhaps one of your best videos my friend!
The reason for the big response is, I'd say, because of the risk of a gas explosion. Actually, since the gas was burning, it wasn't that great of a risk. BUT, _if_ there was a gas explosion, there could be multiple buildings on fire, and multiple victims in need of attention...
Also, that area (North Wildwood and Wildwood) has a LOT of wood frame constructed houses, the shops on the boardwalk, plus the boardwalk itself is all wood. The heat from those flames could've easily touched off a multiple dwelling fire.
Awesome catch, man do I miss hearing fire tones like that ,I was a FF with sta 421 in New Gretna , Burlington Co for a few years and was at more then a few of the fireman conventions so great to see there trucks
let me give you some insight, you only need between 5% and 15% Gas mixture in the air for and explosion. be glad it was a high pressure main and not a low.At least the high pressure will burn and not explode as easy as a low pressure. Turning the gas is an easy solution but as Sam said , you still have all that gas to burn off first.
Excellent video, buddy! Looks like they let it burn until the gas could be turned off. That's actually the safest option, because it lets the gas burn off, rather than dissipate in the environment and potentially seep into buildings, where it can result in an explosion.
Benjamin Esposti very true mate. It’s also quite hard to put it out with water anyways. We have tested the fire crews quite a few times at our yard for training. Most times they can’t put it out. Dry powder is way more effective. But it has its limits also depending on the size of the fire.

It probably only takes one person to turn off a gas main, but they have to be from the gas company to do it. The gas company likely doesn't keep someone posted to respond to emergencies 24/7, so it takes a while to get someone out there to shut the gas off. Meanwhile all the fire department can do is make sure nothing else catches on fire, which is exactly what they were doing.

Not sure on this department set up but in my area we work on a m.a.b.a.s.system mutual aid box alarm system. It gives us the back up and resources needed when we get the job for instance if we show up for report of a structure fire we have 4 other departments on the way but if we have something bigger than originally reported we will call for 2nd alarm which will dispatch further companies to support us in whatever way we need be it back up or response to additional calls while we are tied up
ALBERTO MADEIRA JR if you shut off gas to the area then you’re leaving every home and business in the neighborhood without gas. Also if you put out the fire right away, the gas fire then turns into a gas leak, which is worse cuz you can’t see the leak at that point. As long as it’s burning you can see where the gas is
ALBERTO MADEIRA JR they were attempting to secure the leak when the fire started, the fire doesn’t simply just go out like the other comment when water is applied, the lines were stretched to cool/protect the exposures. The crew that was securing the leak was injured when the fire started and more assists were needed before they could completely stop the leak

Can someone tell me where exactly this is? I’m completely stumped as to where this Wildwood is.
Southern New Jersey

Why the original Nintendo music at 2:30
Why do many people? What else is burning? How many does it take to turn off a gas main?
It probably only takes one person to turn off a gas main, but they have to be from the gas company to do it.
The gas company likely doesn't keep someone posted to respond to emergencies 24/7, so it takes a while to get someone out there to shut the gas off. Meanwhile all the fire department can do is make sure nothing else catches on fire, which is exactly what they were doing.
44R0Ndin well idk how Jersey/wildwood does it ..... but I work gas emergency in nyc for the big blue power company... and we have gas and electric crews staffed 24/7 ready to go Incase something like this happens
Why not try to find the gas shut off valve and try to turn it off and let it burn out
Nice vids! What do you use to record?
Thank you! I filmed this with a Cannon R80
Is it necessary for 100 emergency vehicles just turn off the main gas line..
Harley James yeah. Let’s see. Gas line blows up and takes couple block? Good thing fire engines are there.
Gas lines blows up and causes power lines to be downed if it hits an electrical pole? Good thing firemen are there.
Plus, you can’t just turn off the valve to shut off gas.
I been a firefighter a few years and know what to do want me to come and teach you all how to do it the right way?
Die Gaswerke drehen den Hahn zu und gut ist. Wozu der Riesenaufwand ... ?..
5:18. I don't know how J. Cole has time to be a rapper and a firefighter. Crazy
wonder what is taking gas company so long
roger davies wym? How long it took to shut off the leak? A flame that big poses a huge threat to emergency personnel and civilians. They cant just rush in at once to stop it.
Similar incident in downtown Sydney had only two pumps and a hazmat unit in attendance. Such an overkill and waste of resources. Buts, that's the USA, where everything is done in a big way.
11:20 guy in red is having a great time but the lad with 72 on helmet looks pissed off and bored of standing around with nothing to do.
Call went out little after 1800 ... probably interrupted a good supper.
Dodge Durangos, you dont see those used very often as patrol vehicles, we used to use the Dodge Magnums for a while.......
DO NOT let the Dunkin Donuts be harmed in any way

Thank you so much!
Oh wow that fire looks very dangerous great video
Nice catch man.
Thank you
Bet your ass it's an All Hands call when the Dunkin' Donuts is in danger!
nice job
Demonracer2
Thanks
cops like donuts
thats serious
but what i don't understand why don't they use a hose
canncukman 77 safer to let it burn, plus to be honest mostly useless anyways. Depending on the pressure it’s extremely hard to put gas out with water hose. Might as well try and piss at it.
We'll hell, they should've sent everybody back and just let all these YT "experts" take care of it!
You do NOT put out a natural gas fire....you turn off the gas. Put out the gas then to have unburned gas leak.......BOOM
Protect the exposures and let it burn.
Cool how they had 2 different departments on scene
4 departments were on scene
Demonracer2 oh damn
Not sure on this department set up but in my area we work on a m.a.b.a.s.system mutual aid box alarm system. It gives us the back up and resources needed when we get the job for instance if we show up for report of a structure fire we have 4 other departments on the way but if we have something bigger than originally reported we will call for 2nd alarm which will dispatch further companies to support us in whatever way we need be it back up or response to additional calls while we are tied up
Can’t they turn off the gas?
What's a 14 min video probably took the gas company 2 hrs to locate the main shut off valve
Bad ass! I haven’t been there since the 70’s
I see all these comments thinking they know what they are talking about, ik what im talking about because im actually part of a fire department😂😂
0:28 what's that cop car
just watchin and curious.lol.
Dodge Durango
All I have to say is hopefully none the gas employees were injured or lost their lives
Thank goodness not summer time.. getting to it, would have been hard...
I wonder how it ignited
Contractors were doing work on the line
Great video buddy
Jay.Jones Gaming Thank you for watching!
Your welcome and no problem
love how dispatch says IN R O O T
It's NEW JOISEY 4 cryin out loud ! They ALL TALK FUNNY THERE... Just like NEW YORKERS!!
It can be pronounced that way
Great catch man!
Thank you!
Why didn't they just shut off the gas to the area so they can cool the gas pipe down and put out the fire?
Demonracer2 That is a gas fed fire right if you kill the source (the gas) wouldn't it been easier for them to put it out??? I sure the businesses around the area wouldn't have mind the gas being shut off seeing the circumstances.
So lucky the leak wasn't any closer to the bldg's
In what state is Wildwood, please?
New Jersey
@@demonracer2 Thanks!! I'm CRAZY about your vids, by the way!! Thanks so much for sharing!!! ❤❤❤
P. J. Bovio thank you so much!
@@demonracer2 😉
I know where that is. I've been there before.
Good video Demon racer. However seeing as it was a gas fire I would have been videoing from the other side of town. Why is it the personal driving the pickups and SUV's have to park right on top of the scene?
Thank you for watching!
Miss seaside&wildwood, good ol days as a teen
Great video !!!!
Thanks!
