This may be a big thing to do but I think it would be an excellent idea to see a full tour of your roses. In the spring when the once bloomers start you could do a multi part series on them. Just a thought!
Thanks for the tips. I have 5 Mini roses in very large pots, grouped together near the house and they have survived some very cold winters over the years. 4 are by the tub pond and one is against the greenhouse.
This vide came in the right time ! Zone 8 Uk , we had our first frost here . No garage or heated greenhouse , I’ve lift them on some pot feet to help with drainage. Other than that , just hope they will be ok over winter .
Thanks Peter. I took a week working on some website building for next season - I guess this is the time of year to do it, when things aren't moving so fast in the garden!
Oh boy, guilty as charged, I have a bunch of perennials I potted up and have left sitting out on my picnic table... I'd better make that task a higher priority - I'll get on it asap! Thx Jason.
Excellent tips Jason!👌 I decided to try and prepare my roses for the colder weather by leaving all of the hips on and not doing any pruning. Pretty sure these plants have lost their minds.😂 There is new growth and buds everywhere.🤣 They certainly enjoy the temperatures, 22C daytime and 10C early morning. Clearly, they are not ready for a nap.😂🤣 You are so right about knowing your regional weather and planning for temperatures colder than predicted. This winter is likely to be unpredictable due to the lingering affects of the La'Nina out here in the Pacific Ocean. As the Jet Stream travels over the continent the reactions will be quite varied. The Bomb Cyclone that hit Seattle this week as well as severe weather in California and probably Oregon as well, it might be a tough winter. Of course only time will tell for sure. At least, being prepared, can certainly help relieve some of that stress.🤙
Thanks once again Jason. Zone 8 as well I have about 10 potted roses. Good tip of getting breathable plant covers. I’m not sure yet. Part of me thinks the roses will be better off without the bag. Do we defoliate before putting on the bags ?
Great video i have three roses in my pop up green house that's part time heated 3 to 4 days out of the week. My question is will My roses suffer when on the days it's not heated it will drop below freezing? Also I was reading if I get a 5 gallon bucket and put a fish tank heater in it & keep it in the green house will it keep my roses in pots from freezing?
Hi Kathy - it's a good option for you I think to avoid some of those wicked outflow winds! Once the leaves are stripped (and assuming it stays relatively cool = dormant) the light requirements are minimal. Remind yourself to check on them every week or two to check on soil moisture, and to make sure they're not breaking dormancy. A touch of gentle air circulation would be nice too, but so long as you're not seeing any rot, it's all good.
Great advice. I am here in South Texas. First year of planting roses in the ground. A few roses on now. About 2 ft plants. Do I need to cut them down now or prune them in spring?
You're so good at explaining.
Thanks so much!

how much light needed if you put them in the garage?
I have already moved my rose plants in 1 gallon or smaller pots into my garage. I learned my lesson from last winter's devastation.
Excellent tips Jason!👌

Thank you so much for posting this very informative video!
It's 34C here and I am sitting in an inflatable pool with a beer. The roses will have to fend for themselves, but I'm sure they'll be fine.
Always great information!
Hey Jason, great information and tips in the above video. Hope you get some time out over the winter months. Cheers Michael in the West of Ireland 🇮🇪
Thanks so much Michael. I plan on it!

How do perinneal potted flowers fair in a Florida winter. Is any special care needed? I am in Tampa area.
Thank you for the information, question how difficult is it to grow roses from seeds?

can you put roses in the dark over winter inside?
I’m wondering about putting my potted rose in my unheated garage. I can remove the foliage but would it be ok in very low light?

I'd probably take care of the whole job in late winter or early spring.

I like your cartoon cover 😂

He looks after roses better than our government looks after pensioners.
