    @18:00 after some trial and error I have fallen in love with tangs. I can also concur that offering them nori with a veggie mag clip next to some flow is essential at least every once in a while. The good nori from the store. Not wild nori or any other nori. I lost one blue tang so I dove in and researched all I could. Now I'm here. My yellow tang is doing great. Also considered a little more hardy than the powder blues. Tangs are awesome in my opinion. I love their grazing always active nature. More similar to myself. lol.

    I have a mated pair of Diamond Gobies. They eat daily. I turn all of the pumps off so the water is still. I start with flakes for the clowns, Tang, etc. I then take a large pinch of Pellets (1.2 mm or smaller) and submerge my fingers in the water. Then the Pellets slowly fall and the normal fish eat them on the way down and most of them fall on the sand bed. The gobies quickly go to work eating the Pellets. The flakes or frozen will also fall down eventually and they will eat that as well. Leave the pumps off for 15 or 20 min to let them consume the food on sand. I will also soak Pellets in Red Sea AB+ aminos as well for the fish. I will also soak Reef Roids, Gonipower, and Reef Chilly with AB+ as well, corals love an so do tI,- ok

    I have always subscribed in my tanks to the buffet feeding. I find a variety off foods that meet different needs. Sometimes its two foods, sometimes it is 5, but I mix it all. Every feeding is different and the mix will give them more of some nutrients some days, more of another the next.

    Love this channel, luckily when i bought my fish food the pet store i went to was knowledgeable and suggested strongly to get vitalis (i did say i wanted a cheaper food as my budget was tight at the time, at the time i suspected an upsell but now i see that it was not :D ). The clown fish i had, got stringy poo! so i did some research and got some frozen food which fixed that issue, so i combine or do one or the other so their diet is more varied!

    Feed variety, not just for the nutritional value, but becuase if your fish are use to eating a variety of foods, when you run out of 1, they will be use to eating another.
    Example your fish will only eat frozen. Ever had a fridge go out on you? You cant always run to the store and pick one up. They often have weeks wait for delivery.
    Running to the store to buy ice all the time sucks. Learned that lesson the hard way with discus.

    From what I understand, thawing and refreezing foods denatures the proteins, too, making it less nutritious for your fish. I had a green mandarin and was buying two or three bottles of Tigger Pods a month for him, but eventually he figured out that the NLS Small Fish pellets i was giving my clowns were pretty tasty. He did great on them.

    I’ve made a mistake with a couple of young tangs and a rabbit fish. I was told what food to buy and they weren’t specifically for herbivores. They’re not growing very fast I’ve had them 4-5 months. The food I have was ones with mainly protein and fat etc. is this why they’re not growing much or do they generally not grow a lot over that period of time?

    • @aaronhelsby8214
      @aaronhelsby8214 2 роки тому

      And if so, have I stunted their growth?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't expect a significant amount of growth in such a short period of time. That said, proper nutrition is vitally important to the long term survival and health of these fish. When it comes to tangs and rabbit fish, most of them will eat meaty foods, even though it's not what is best for them. This is when it's important that you regularly offer foods like nori seaweed sheets or seaweed pellets at least once per day. It's not too late to start feeding the proper foods!

    I have a flame hawk that looks full size my hubby got for me that isnt eatting well. He is extremely shy and hides all the time, I believe because he was captured at an older age! From now on I will only get babies or tank raised. How can i get him out to eat? We made a mistake of giving him live shrimp my LFS gave me. Maybe she knew he wasnt eatting well! I hate feeding live fish, but so much hits the sand and I have to keep putting my hands in to pull out with a turkey baster. I have lots of new corals n sand bed now so I cant even get the xtra food out! He has always had a blotchy coloration. Not solid red but paler towards the bottom of his body! I only have 2 other small fish in the 36 gallon so I dont know why he is so scared one is a clown and a yellow tail damsel. Both friendly fish! Any advice? Should I keep giving live food? Could he be spoiled from that? He tore after the live shrimp. Some days he only gets maybe 3 small pellets and 30 on floor! The damsel loves to spit out food as well, and sort of plays with it, so I keep feeding in hopes to draw him out!

    How do you approach feeding anemones? I only feed shrimp but have tried squid. They seem to take the shrimp better but is it enough nutrition? Once a week?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому

      If you're going to spot feed anemones, use small foods like Mysis shrimp. If you use large chunks, the anemone won't be able to digest it and will almost always spit it out. Most anemones don't actually need to be spot fed, so once per week should be plenty.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому +1

      If you're using pre-portioned cubes, half a cube per day should do the trick. In your case, I'd suggest adding the food slowly so that the fish can eat it before it gets into your filtration.

    Ok, I'll bite. I have 4 clowns, flame angel, yellow tail pygmy, 2 fighting conchs, and a variety of hermits and snails. I usually feed them 1/2 tspn of NLS Marine Fish pellets a day or Hikari BIO-Pure Spirulina Brine Shrimp. For this, I'm not sure if I give enough. I take 10ml of tank water and dissolve 1 cube. I normally feed about 1/2 of that a day. Sometimes I will skip a day of any feeding. I don't go by the feed enough for them to eat for 2-3 minutes mentality. Most of what I feed ends up on the bottom anyways. I will turn off all 3 power heads in my 60 gallon cube during feeding, while leaving on the sump and return pump. Is there a general rule of thumb to follow with the fish I have and foods I feed that I should be following?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому

      If there is a lot of uneaten food left over on the bottom of the tank, you may be feeding too much in one sitting. Maybe break up your feedings into two feedings per day with half the amount in each feeding instead?

    Also, I have a question about saltwater fish because they keep dying for some reason. So far, I have bought about 10 goldfish. Every goldfish I buy dies within hours. At first, I naturally suspected the fish store was selling unhealthy fish. So, I went to a different fish store and it was the same! What are the odds of finding two... (two then, six now)... six disreputable fish stores in a row?
    All I want is a nice saltwater goldfish. I want to feed him a McDonald's and let the cat swim with him. I will call him George XI. Even if it's a girl goldfish, I'll still call it George XI. They all look the bloody same. And, a fish doesn't know what sex it is.
