    JJ's true potential was held back by Michigans style of football but he never complained, he just won and he has one of the best winning percentages by a QB in ncaa history. He would benefit by sitting a year or 2 behind a veteran QB but he is going to be one of the best players in the league a few years from now

    He made insane throws all year. Especially in do or die situations. His intangibles are off the chart as well. One of them being his selflessness. JJ was the one who suggested running 32 straight against Penn State. This kid is a winner.

    That last throw was special. As a Michigan fan, that was the moment (even though it was the first game) where I said, “oh…we can actually win the national championship this year.” It was clear that we finally had a QB that could elevate the team when needed, knowing that it would still be run-first with stifling defense.

    What jumps out at me is this is Michigan vs East Carolina and I don't see UM receivers running wide open. So many times when you watch teams like Ohio State the QB is throwing to WR's that are 10 yards away from the closest defender. So McCarthy throwing with anticipation in tight windows is what he'll see on Sundays.

    • @Bennett12337
      @Bennett12337 8 місяців тому

      Exactly. Everybody is so quick to hate on JJ, but they don’t ever stop to look at the weapons he has. Look at for example Michael Penix, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniel’s. The difference between McCarthy in college and all 3 of those guys in college is that all 3 of those guys have SEVERAL receiving weapons projected to get picked high in the draft. AllJJ had was Roman and his TEs really. Nobody stops to notice that Jadyn Daniel’s wouldn’t have had nearly as good of a season if it wasn’t for having those reliable guys in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.

    the people who are critical of Mccarthy have not seen much of him. If you have watched him a lot, you have a completely different opinion. He would make 5 elite throws a game max, as UM didn't need more out of him. He is excellent at changing plays at the line of scrimage and reading the defense. Also remember, he only played 2 1/2 quarters in 9 games as he was pulled along with the rest of the starters. The PSU and Maryland game he was very limited and really didn't practice during the week of those games.

    JJM is mos def underated, because of his mid numbers, but just as your deep dive suggests, there's more there, especially with reads pre snap. That said, he relies too much with his velocity, he rarely gives his receivers less and lead them from what i've seen in two years. When he does, it's always either too far or too short. It's almost like he doesn't have touch when you see these throws, unlike say a Phenix or Stroud. He reminds me of a younger Matt Stafford, all velocity all the time. With time and better coaching and system in the NFL, this kid has a chance to be special.

    JJ is a natural leader and has one of the best football IQ I’ve seen from a college QB in years. I’ve seen him keep composure multiple times under pressure where he made a play happen out of nothing. He reads the field and doesn’t force throws. Sure he may have to brush up on his accuracy and learn an nfl offense, but he makes veteran decisions that some young nfl qbs lack along with leadership that makes him years ahead in this draft class. A 21 year old body with a veteran mind.

    JJ McCarthys accuracy dropped off majorly later in the year, a lot of people said this was Becuase of tougher competition, but since the Penn State game on he was significantly limited by injury, if you compare this tape to his tape against Maryland it looks like a completely different qb

    • @jodyfoster9278
      @jodyfoster9278 8 місяців тому

      I don't really know why his accuracy dropped off, was it injury or competition. His first nine games McCarthy complete 75.7% of his passes, over the last six he dropped to 66.7%. I know that 9% is a big drop but considering how the 66.7% over the last six against really good competition compares to other QBs considered to be top in this years draft, Williams 68.6%, Maye 63.3%, Daniels 72.2%, and Penix 65.4%, McCarthy's last six (72.3% for the season) don't look that bad. (I feel that I should throw in that Bo Nix completed 77.4% of his passes this season.) I also find it interesting that people point to the Maryland game to show that McCarthy is not an NFL QB but they never really look at the entire Michigan team. The final score 31-24 Michigan got a safety and a defensive TD and still only won by seven, that doesn't seem like that was all on the QB. Maybe it was because the game was sandwiched in between Penn State and Ohio State, this is commonly referred to as a trap game.

    I would like to point out though that everyone who is saying Michigan’s running game is what held JJ back from putting up huge numbers, that can easily be a double edged sword. Having such a monstrous run game opened up the pass and it’s hard to say what weaknesses could be exposed if JJ doesn’t get drafted by a team with a solid run game which allows defenses to focus on stopping the pass. That being said, I think he’ll succeed no matter what he faces. I guess time will tell.

    Good tape overall. Very close but McCarthy did appear to take a step past the line of scrimmage with the ball still in-hand at the opponent's 19 yard line with his front leg that was his main support leg throwing on the run @ about 2:35 but hard to make that call.

    The only stat that matters at the elite level is wins and losses. McCarthy's record as a starter? 27-1 (96.4%), 65-3 (95.6%)if you include high school. All this guy does is find ways to win, win, win. He's also a great runner. McCarthy made critical plays in several games with his legs. He's only 21 years old and has never had an injury bad enough to miss a game.

      He's legit. Michigan was Stacked stacked and blew out everyone except an OT game vs Alabama. He didn't throw 50 times a game, padding his stats against cupcakes, because we didn't need him to. With the #1 defense we didn't have to worry about comebacks either. So JJ usually sat by halftime. He was so efficient that he actually didn't play a single minute of any 4th qtr, until Nov. 11th (9 games in). When he was in, he was spectacular tho. He made 5 or 6 passes a game that only a handful of NFL QBs can make.
