Never saw the movie, surprisingly, never even saw trailers about it at the time. Well, I never tire of your research, doing all the work for my entertainment!
I have this movie on Blu-ray and have always thought that DiCaprio's performance outstanding. Thanks for visiting these locations Jeff, they are extremely interesting . I am a movie buff and have over 3000 Blu-rays in my collection covering the years from 1916 to 2022, so look forward to many more 'location' History Hunters.
That was supposed to be a Depp movie, but DiCaprio stole it.
That's bc Leo wasn't acting 😂
My grandparents are buried there and I worked at the Manor Middle School for 21 years. They filmed while I was working there. Brings back so many memories of all the excitement it brought such a small community. The population at that time was around 1000. It has grown a lot as Austin has expanded. Gas is under $3.00 right now in Texas pretty much. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you Jeff,,, this is another good video my friend.. FRANK FROM MONTANA... PS.. December 2022 gas in BILLINGS is 2.99 per gallon.
Great movie. Leonardo did an amazing job.
A "new" movie for us to watch (never seen it). I just love the authenticity of Texas - those little towns are like a time capsule.
I think you will enjoy it if you watch it!
I watched parts of the movie years ago. But will watch the whole movie now
I remember watching the movie then and realizing how good an actor De Caprio was since I became totally involved with the emotions and actions he brought to the movie. I felt bad when Gilbert snapped and beat him up, how he felt when let in the bath overnight, and how the brotherly bond shined through after Gilbert apologized for how he treated his brother. Amazing acting and a very underrated movie. Great to see the locations but sad to see how much progress changes everything. Nice job once again. Thanks.
Just love your filming location videos!! Thanks Jeff.
Thanks for another great video, Jeff! We appreciate you letting us tag along.
I always like it when you go and visit cemeteries. Especially the before and after photos. Nice job.
One of my favorite movies!! I enjoyed your video of the filming locations very much!
Another wonderful factual video by Jeff. Very interesting and thought provoking....Thanks Jeff !!
Haven’t watched the movie but it was very good coverage of the the locations where it took place! Thanks Jeff!
Awesome investigation! Thanks for all your effort.
I love that movie. Thank you for this video.
I loved that movie. Johnny and Leo were awesome in it. It was fun to see the locations and changes that have occurred since it was filmed. Thank you.☮️💖🎶
❤️This episode! One of my old favs! Great job 🌹
Fabulous to hear! Thanks Victoria!
Thank you History Hunters! I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas!
Awesome video Jeff! Ive been through there and had no idea that movie was filmed there. Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas!
Yes, I have seen the movie, but I never knew it had been filmed in Texas. Thank you for the tour.
Thank you Jeff for another informative vlog! I liked this movie when it came out and want to see it again now. It amazes me how you can take a movie clip and recreate the location to find out what has happened since, like the building where the funeral was filmed. I was in Modesto recently and used a photo from my sister many years ago to locate my grandmother and grandfather in the cemetery that had changed their name since the burials occurred. I was able to look in the background at the mausoleum, then a cement bench to the left and gauging by a tree near the headstones I was able to find them after 67 years! I had never visited there and now I know where they are located for future visits. Thank you for your research and that was an ugly car, in fact we just rented one, only a dark blackish color, just last weekend!
I had forgotten all about this movie! And yes I saw it when it was out way back then! LOL Thnx for another gr8 vid Jeff!
Wow. Well done. Congratulations for your filming locations. You found them all even the houses are gone.
Very awesome to see these spots after all this time! Good work Jeff 👍 I’ve always wondered what a Gilbert grape part 2 story line good of been like !
Thanks again Jeff and Sarah for another great episode never seen it but enjoyed it I'm still stuck on all the old westerners sending you all love and God bless you all have a great week 😊
Thanks again. And may you and your family have a Merry Christmas.
Haven't seen this movie thanks for sharing Jeff and Sarah 👍
Never seen this film, but I’m certainly going to watch it now. Thank you Jeff 😊
Jeff, Thank you for another great video! I remember this movie well! I remember a scene with Leonardo Di Caprio in the basement of the house. His mom is walking in the room above him. The floor groans with the weight and dust falls on Leonardo. He looks worried that the floor will give way. Great movie with a sad ending. I hope you and Sarah have a very Merry Christmas!
Loved that Movie Always look forward to your video's Big THUMBS UP 😁 every time 😁
Thank you for this episode. This is definitely in my top 10! Good storyline; most definitely!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for visiting there
Thanks for another History lesson Jeff! I have never seen the movie but had always Heard mention of the title and now I can tie it together, thanks again!

I had no idea that movie was shot here in Texas! I rented the VHS tape at Blockbuster when it was released. Great job Jeff. Thanks so much for doing this show. Making me even more proud to be a Texan! (LOL). Take care Jeff!
Very cool video guy’s. I remember this video from years ago, but I’m going have to watch again to refresh my memory.
All those good actors, how young they all looked. Time flies!
Take care now and see ya on the next one! Frank from Philadelphia, PA.
Top notch presentation along with amazing research. Thanks for introducing me to UA-cam.
Thank you so much! We are your first UA-cam experience?
Great video! I was waiting for you to get through the fence and climb the water tower...maybe next time. Thanks for taking us there with you.
I should’ve, huh? Lol
that was a great movie, Leo was outstanding in it! Great tour Jeff!
I wonder where the trailer was parked by Juliette’s character’s grandmother. Bittersweet, unforgettable movie.
Ken Carver had a heart attack and fell in the kiddie pool and drowned. I just watched the movie again yesterday. Old Johnny Depp movies are so cool.
🐞One of my favorite pictures. Thanks. 🐞
Will have to watch the movie now. Thanks for another great video
Thanks! One of my films I like to watch occasionally!

We actually rented the movie from Block Buster way back but I don't remember much about it. You've got an interesting hobby thanks for sharing it with us.
30 years goes by fast I also have a 30 year old son and it makes me feel old lol. Thanks for filming I all but forgot about this movie. It’s amazing how some things change and some don’t. Thanks for sharing!

Hi ! Nice vlog ! Loved the story ! Plus Johnny Depp was a hottie in that movie ! LoL ! Ok have to go shovel snow now ! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉🎈. Deborah 🇨🇦
Now I'm gonna have to watch the movie. Weather seemed pretty good for September.
Thanx for the video. 👍
It was a great time to visit Austin! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks again for the tour and info...always great! BTW I have a white Kia Soul that looks like your red rental...
I think it was more of the color of the car that repulsed me. Lol.
As am watching you talk about this movie am taping it on TV. Thank you.
Never seen the movie , but after watching your video it’s on my list! lol
Thanks !!
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice work, cheers!
History Hunter does it again, showing awesome movie locations of a movie I've never seen. I really enjoy this video and it got me wanting to watch the film, thankfully the movie is on HBO Max, maybe I should try to watch it. After I watch it, I'll let you know what I think. 😀
Hey Jeff good video thank you for sharing. I have never seen the movie in my whole life, but I've heard of people watching it so maybe I will look at it one time see what it's like. Thank you for sharing the the scenes where it was filmed and the information. Have a great week and Merry Christmas.
I never knew they made a movie together, that's awesome, Thank you for bringing it to life , I wouldn't have never known
@Andrea Johnson oh, it is a fantastic film, totally worth seeking out & viewing.
Depp is awesome, and DiCaprio showed what an immense talent he is.
I saw it decades ago with one of my besties, and we were ... mind-blown is putting it mildly.
@@St.Linguini_of_Pesto I gotta check it out thanks for the advice, Johnny one of my favs
Thanks Jeff dilligent detective work. Don't think I've seen the movie, but I do remember when it came out.
Central California watching
Thanks for the video Jeff, I work in Plugerville and had no idea the movie was shot here. I love your videos, keep up the good work
Thank you very much, Ryan! Quick question for you: were you a subscriber before I started my Texas subject videos? Just curious!
Yes, I have been a subscriber for I think 4 years or so, but I have always said to myself "man if Jeff makes it out to Texas he would have a gold mine of history content" lol
Correction I have been subscribed for 2 and a half years, I found out how to look it up lol
Another excellent episode. My husband and I enjoy your videos. This one was so fun as I was a big fan of the movie. You put so much effort into all the background information and that is what sets your videos apart from the others. Keep up the good work and awaiting your next adventure. Oh, btw, where was Sarah?
Thanks! Sarah didn’t make this trip as she had her busy time at work. Glad you liked the video! I appreciate your nice feedback!
Thank you so much
Never seen that movie. Johnny Depp was really young then. Almost 30 years ago. Might have to check it out. Thanks for your documentary on this film. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Great movie. It had been a long time since I had watched it so I watched it this afternoon. I really enjoy your Vlogs and how you narrorate. FYI I have the same Red KIA it's a great little car.
Thanks so much! As far as the car goes, the color was a little bright for me! lol But it was nice to drive!
I always enjoy your journeys to show us filming locations. Texas seems to have quite a few probably due to the rustic feeling of many small towns.
And Texas is such a huge state. Thank you so much for watching this video and living that nice comment.
Love this movie. So cool!
My kids watched this over and over. Great content once again Jeff! Your biggest Tennessee (formerly California) fans!♥️ (p.s. we got gas for $2.34 yesterday) just sayin’😉
Awesome! Thank you! By the way, gas has dropped quite a bit here in California now. I think I saw it for $3.74 this morning. Hope you are all well! How old are your kids who are watching my show?
@@jbenziggy in their 30’s!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ VIDEO. Happy Holidays
This was fun to watch!
Love it when you go on a filming location!
Fantastic job Jeff.
Thank you once again! Merry Christmas!
Awesome...I love this movie..Leo was great here. Wow! My Brother lives just north of Austin in Leander...I'm sure he can find these places....or when I show up! Good Stuff!
Good morning... My whole family have seen the movie
It was the popular movie when we migrated here in the US back then
Love your chanel Jeff
More power
Thanks Norah! Much appreciated!
Enjoyed this look back at a movie I've not seen but you've prompted interest to view. Many well known actors & there's nothing like these Texas hamlets. Thanks, Jeff.
Thank you for every video you make. DiCaprio is not my favorite but, he did a great job in this picture.
I appreciate the nice compliment, Jose! Thanks!
Another outstanding quality video. See ya next Sunday. How come you didn't get an interview with Leonardo or Johnny? Lol.
Who do you think I am, Entertainment Tonight? Lol.
I never saw the movie, but I will make sure I see it soon.
Absolutely love this movie!
Great! I hope you liked the video!
@@jbenziggy Yes. Video was grand
I absolutely love this movie!! :)
Great job as always!
Hope you and Sarah have a blessed holiday season! 😀
By the way….At first I thought you were in the wrong spot for the Grape house, because just a year ago that land was still an open field with a little gravel driveway!
Can’t believe how much progress has been made since then!
I was in the right spot. I was off of Hobbe Road which you can see in one of my last shots. I am telling you that that spot has changed dramatically even since some UA-camrs have been out there. The subdivision work has wiped away what you see and some other people’s videos. The gravel driveway is now a road. Sarah and I are doing fine and hope you are doing well.
I edited my comment because I realized my mistake :)
I like these "before and after" type videos. I haven't seen "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", but I still enjoyed this. The movie is on HBO Max now, which I have now. I'll probably watch it later today.
It’s a good movie!
I like the look of the Kia Soul. To each their own. Have a beautiful Sunday.
I think I was more speaking to the very bright red color. I think even the rental car agency knew it wasn’t a popular or wanted color. Lol.
I can't help but comment on your channel... I have no idea how I came across your videos but first one that caught my eye was the story about Vivian Laughlin.. I grew up in Modesto and have been to or passed by all the locations you showed! After that video I saw this one and I loved that movie! (Also a huge Leo and Depp fan 😁) I have only recently moved to Texas a couple years ago! I live maybe 30 mins from Manor and only 15 mins from Pflugerville! So I'm definitely going to check it out.. (still haven't visited the scenes in Austin from Dazed and Confused).. but I caught the timing you mentioned when you filmed here for this video.. $2.99 is actually a little high for Texas believe it or not! Lol when I got here in Dec 2020 gas was $1.45 in the bigger cities and just under $2 in the smaller areas such as Manor...
Crazy difference from CA on so many levels!
I'm glad I found your channel! Very interesting vids you have 🤠
Welcome to History Hunters! We are glad you found us! If you go in the store tell the nice fellow hello for me!
Fun fact... Secondhand Lions and one of the Transformers movies was filmed at the house with the stainless steel silo off in the distance behind where the Grape house used to be. Less than a mile away basically on the same plot of land.
The store from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just down the road from there too.
Another good one Jeff, I see Sarah didn't come along, , didn't see movie, but will in future
Sarah stayed home in California on that trip. I hope that you will enjoy the movie when you do watch it. It’s my kind of movie.
Kevin Tighe was in the 70s hit series “Emergency!”…..cool!
Yep and I watched that show as a kid!
A long time ago thank you ALL stay safe And Merry Christmas
