An absolute tragedy the Sycamore Gap tree is now no longer. I adored this movie- my history teacher played this for us in our last few lessons for the year after our exams in 1992. Such fun.
sadness
Who in their right mind would cut down a magnificent tree like that. So sad
The tree is being replaced with a new planting
Its so pretty there all the locations. prince of thieves is one of my favorite movies i watched it thousands of times never get tired of it .
What's up with all the weird spaces and odd punctuation? Are you incapable of typing correctly? WTF?
Great video! Thank you! The sycamore was chopped down by a vandal today sadly
Kevin Costner my opinion made the best Robin Hood
No! The accent comes & goes like the weather. Alan Rickman stole the show
True
@@samanthab1923 Michael Wincott as well
@@jennycraigadventures3314 Always, did you know he’s in NOPE?
Cary Elwes was much more convincing though.
Thank-you Chris for this video! This movie was one of me and my husband favorite!! My husband passed away in 2012 he would have loved to see your video on this movie 🎥 you bought back a lot of memories to me! Thank-you Wendy
I was 12 when Robin Hood came out. It was a really great period for movies between around 1988 to 1995. Just in 1991 when Robin Hood came out alone, there were a ton of great movies. I loved this movie then and still do to this day. Is it completely historically accurate? No. Does Kevin Kostner even attempt an English accent. No. Is some of Alan Rickman’s performance a little over the top at times? Yes. Is it a little mainstream, right down to the Bryan Adams song at the end? Yes. But you know what? That’s okay. It’s just a fun and satisfying popcorn movie, and it’s not completely without some historical merits too. As for the title song, I honestly still love it, and most of Bryan Adams music. I think that song eventually took a lot of flack and dislike only because it was overplayed a little. But it really was a good song. I can remember on the original VHS for this movie, in the credits while “Everything I Do” played, they had a Bryan Adams music video for it in the background, shot I believe in the same woods as tree village sequences. Even with special features on discs and the vastness of the internet today, that music video is surprisingly difficult to find. Robin Hood was absolutely everywhere though when it came out. Theaters, VHS later at home, on the radio with the theme song, multiple video games, novelizations, collector cards, toys, you name it. Heck, Morgan Creek even used the very start of Michael Kamen’s great score over their logo that appeared before movies for years after Robin Hood. Just good times.
Yes, Bryan Adams was really big especially w the ladies. I remember on the bus many girls listened to it on the cd headphones on the way to and from school, including me😎
@@angelsworld1733 Hey, Bryan Adams wasn’t just for the ladies. He was an 80’s rocker. I don’t know why he’s had this unjustified reputation that way. He’s a talented guy, and there are tons of completely heterosexual guys like me who like his work.
Well said! I have the same relationship to the movie. This is one of the first DVDs I bought when DVDs came out. Gotta flip the DVD over halfway through. 😂
@@cgimoviemanIt’s because he did a lot of romance songs in the 90’s, that’s when his fanbase changed to a lot of women.
This may have been the first movie I can remember seeing in the theater. Thanks, Chris! Amazing locations.
Same here
The famous sycamore has been cut down today and the police are investigating and have arrested someone. Love your video.
Sadly the pub that is the entrance to the 'butt scene' waterfall closed down the other day. Glad you managed to visit it before that happened.
Why did it close?? That's too bad
@@MobileInstinct lack of trade and the rising costs of fuel and supplies, apparently. Sadly it won't be the only business closing down in the next few months over here. Hopefully places like that will re-open when the crazy financial situation calms down a bit. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my bit of Northern England. This video certainly explains why you were at Castle Bolton too...which I was very surprised to see the other week :)
Damn, we always stopped there for lunch on the way to the Lakes; it's a nice detour: Castle Bolton, Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Force
@@leestockton9367 Apparently it has been taken over by a new owner and has now re-opened.
In my top 3 movies of all time. Had such an impact on me when i was 12 and ever since. So great. Thanks for this awesome video. Seeing them now is so cool.
Guy of Gisborne:
Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?
Sheriff of Nottingham:
Because it's DULL, you twit, it'll hurt more.
I live like 40mins from Salisbury where that castle is. Sadly I never got to finish the locations for this film but my aim is to do it for sure, brilliant video
Dude. This is something special, it gave me chills at the beginning. I too was attached to this movie in 1991. I had my parents by me all of the action figures, man i wish i still had them. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for making this video. I remember watching one like this a while back on YT but it got flagged for copyright and removed. I grew up in the woods of upstate New York, just north of Syracuse, and I was about 10 or 11 when this movie came out and it was always one of my favorites. I use to build tree forts with my dads scrap lumber and pretend I was in the movie. Growing up in the 90s was awesome. Loved all the movies music and video games. Thanks again for making this. 10/10.
Dude. You always do a great job but this was extremely well done. Thank you
Glad you got to visit the tree before someone cut it down
Glad you made this video, because the tree is now gone! Sad , But again great video really wonderful areas they shot in! And really enjoyed the editing, nice splicing the movie scenes in with your video of the sets/locations.
I still today love this movie. It's one of my favorites.
Absolutely fantastic filming location video. I got goosebumps seeing these real locations from a film that meant so much to me upon seeing for the first time in a theater in 1991. Thanks for making!!!
I was a teenager when I seen this movie. Love this movie alot Thank you so much for showing us the locations ❤
That theme song is epic. What a great movie! Thanks for sharing these locations, super awesome!
Yep, and the Three Musketeers song too.
Alan Rickman was a joy to watch in this film, he made the film so enjoyable as the villain 😂 My little brother (not so little anymore, he's taller than me now) used to watch this film all the time as a child, Great vid! Nice to see things in nature still stand tall 30+ years later.
These areas are surprisingly well preserved after all those years. Some of the best visuals you've stumbled upon yet and such a classic film to. Great video
Except for the tree some troll cut it down
Kamen's score for this movie was absolutely perfect. 8 years later he'd create one of my favorite scores ever, for "The Iron Giant". We lost him way too soon. He had a lot of greatness left to give.
OMG! Gänsehaut das ganze Video über, danke für die kleine Zeitreise!
A compelling and well researched and presented background to one of the greatest films of all time.
This movie did really start off a love of movies for me when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing this!
This was amazing. It's so cool seeing images of the places where one of my favorite movies ever was filmed. It's kind of haunting to see them. There are echoes of the actors and film in them. I love this. Thank you for this video! Did you by chance visit any of the locales of First Knight? I recall some of the filming was in the same forest, the Burnham Beeches.
EVERYTHING YOU DO..YOU DO IT FOR US..thanks Chris!!
Awesome Chris great video
Major thank you to Martin! Such a beautiful country! Thank you for sharing this amazing video!
Great video ! It's heartbreaking to know that the beautiful tree is now no longer there. Some moron cut it down recently. It had been there for at least 200 years
Loved it! Amazing movie. Thank you for taking me to the locations.
I have just about every Robin Hood movie or documentary available on DVD. This is one of my favorites of them all. Was it historically accurate of course not because there's no real proof Robin Hood ever really existed. More than likely he was a combination of many different stories based on some real people but mostly fictional stories and legends. It was great to see these filming locations are still well known and visited since it's been 32 years since it came out. It was movies like these and a love of history that started my collecting of Medieval swords and armor. My little sister once said I'm the only person she knows who turned the inside of a log home into a castle. 😊
We all still love the cartoon
That was fantastic! Thank you so much for the adventure!
Superb video thank you for creating this. Robin hood prince of thieves was the first VHS we ever owned in the early 90s. I still love this movie and the theme from it! Would love to visit these locations, they still look exactly the same 30 years later!
So lucky you got to see the Sycamore gap tree in Northumbria...it was sadly cut down by vandals a few days ago.
Thank you Chris definitely one of my favorite movies it will always remain one of those all time classics RIP Allyn Rickman he was also phenomenal in this movie he will truly be missed.
What a wonderful episode! Thanks so much.
Absolutely gutted that the tree has been deliberately cut down by someone overnight. The Sycamore gap is iconic. It's heartbreaking 🤬
Just read about this! I was planning on seeing it on my next trip to England. Gutted😢
@nira I was going to go at some point too. It would be bad enough if a storm had brought it down but this makes no sense.
Vandalising nature 😔
Damn, that's horrible. Why would anyone do this? Absolutely vile behaviour.
was a teenager afaik
Really great video ❤❤❤ can’t wait for more!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩
Wonderful Chris! What an adventure! 🎯
The Prince of Thieves version is probably my favorite of the Robin Hood movies but the Men In Tights version was pretty good too
Haha another excellent movie
The production value for that movie was better than it had any right to be. Amy Yasbeck was a perfect Maid Marian, and Cary Elwes was the perfect Errol Flynn flavor of Robin Hood.
@@MobileInstinct The legend had it coming....
The entire landscape is amazingly beautiful!!! 😍
