I find that a lot of people from the South who are UA-camrs or other internet people don't talk about their lives growing up re: religion and what not (whether for fear of backlash or whatever else), and it's nice to be reminded that you're not alone in this environment. Knowing that y'all grew up in North Carolina, I wasn't particularly surprised by any of this (except did Link say he had bleached hair y'all's freshman year of college?) but I am glad that you felt comfortable sharing it. Your experience matches my own in a different campus ministry in the 90s. Being part of that community was so powerful, and continues to shape my life 20 years later. I love that even though you are not currently in the same place in your faith journey, you can speak respectfully of the positive impact of that organization.
Wow, THANK YOU for sharing this part of your lives. Highly anticipating the next few Biscuits. I'm sure lots of questions will be answered in the Biscuits to come. I can't wait to hear about where your spiritual journey has brought you to at this point. What does your family in NC think about where you're at now (spiritually)? Your wives? And what spiritual foundation are you providing your children? Very curious about your children, especially since thus far in your story having the foundation you had for your childhood seems to have effected you in such a positive way.
Thank you for telling your story. I was raised southern baptist in middle TN so I completely understand where you are coming from. I fully understand how difficult it can be to tell this story. While I no longer believe many of the things I was raised to believe, many of the ways I was raised inform who I am today, just as you have said. I know it isn't easy to tell this story but I applaud you for doing so. It is clear that you love and support your crew, and many of them are LGBTQIA. Your fans love and respect you, and if they're anything like me, they will respect you even more for telling this story (and I hope they all understand why you were reluctant to speak on it. I know I do). Your respect and thoughtfulness to your crew and your fans is not diminished because of where you came from, and I would argue, that being who are you is made all the more impressive, considering where you are from. Thank you for this personal look into your adolescence and I look forward to continuing with you on your journey.
As a sophomore in college who has no idea what I want to do but have super unconventional goals relative to my peers, this video was not only super inspiring but I think necessary to come across. Thank you. My middle school daughter introduced me to you in 2013. We would watch every morning together. She has graduated now and I found you on EB. My story is very similar to yours. THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS. Wow I have been laughing with you all for years but I was nervous to delve into this series because it hit home to me. So now I'm I got up the courage to watch these ear biscuits.
I knew somewhere in my heart that this was Rhett and Link's background with religion, community, etc because I have had a lot of the same experiences (at a completely different time in history, I will admit). And their behavior and conversations in all their Ear Biscuits, and sometimes GMM, have been little hints into this part of their past. It is really cool to hear it for the first time and recognize so much of it within myself. I am very excited to listen to more! #earbiscuits
What an excellent conversation! It's so interesting to realize when you have something in common with others and had no idea! I felt it when Rhett was talking about how their religion was "their world" growing up. I feel like not many people experience this or can get it unless that was exactly what you went through.
You're probably wanting to save this for another episode, so I won't spoil it. But I want to say that my family and I loved your work as *ahem* those fabulous brothers on that one kid's show. Your work has brought us a lot of joy over the years and I've just started listening to your ear biscuits, but we've sang your songs (my favorite is Maine Man) and my littlest sister and I sing your "I like what I like" song together.
Also just being fans of you guys for the past like 8 years (which is wild) it was so dope to get more of an insight into your lives and what made you guys the people you are today. So thank you for making this!!
This episode is very captivating! It's cool hearing a more in depth side after being a fan since 2014! I could honestly just listen to you guys go on for hours!
I enjoy hearing people tell their life stories. Especially those I invest my time in. I am grateful Rhett and Link finally feel safe enough to share this part of their lives with us!
Thank you. My middle school daughter introduced me to you in 2013. We would watch every morning together. She has graduated now and I found you on EB. My story is very similar to yours. In 2006 I would have called myself an evangelical Christian, no longer. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. As I listen to all all of these things I share so many memories and understandings with you. It’s hard to come out in this way to family and friends but your public platform certainly is helping many of us recover.
This explains quite a lot. I had a friend from around where y'all grew up who had some nasty things to say about y'all that I never understood or asked for more information about. I'm honestly so happy y'all are talking about this and how far you've come in your journeys from where you started.
I’ve been wondering about this side of them and I’m so appreciative that they are letting us in. I’m so excited to learn more.
I listened to this on the podcast and have been patiently awaiting the video upload 😊
i finally cut out the audio version so the video upload is always new for me 😁
@@PaulMeranda I generally watch the video version first as well as it super enjoyable to watch them in their element 😊 the podcast I normally listen to to help me sleep
#earbiscuits You guys and Kevin Smith, I could listen to tell stories forever. My dad is a Baptist Minister here in Kentucky, so I was raised in much the same way as you guys, and I am the lead singer of a rock band which I started doing to confront my own social anxiety disorder. Loving this revelation and greatly looking forward to the next episode! Your inspirations, influences, reflections, and personalities are all invaluable components of what make you, YOU, and your fans adore you. Origin stories are fascinating. Keep fighting the good fight and being yourselves.
I really enjoyed this, I love background stories. I also want to acknowledge how much courage it takes to open up to so many people like this. Looking forward to the next!
I hope people like this, because I have never been more locked in and interested. When Rhett kept talking about speeding up I was getting upset hoping they wouldn’t.
I'm only 5 minutes in and I'm stoked. I'm in the camp of wanting to hear this story forever. Really thought Pete Holmes was gonna get it out of you a few months ago. Cant wait for the rest of these, you rock!
I wouldn’t mind sitting here for 8 hours listening to you guys. Especially since I listen when I’m at work.
This is so dope. I'm in school to become a worship pastor and one-day pastor at a church! Thank you guys for opening up on this topic.
JimmyJam worthless endeavor, lol
I'll keep you in my prayers! :)
@@jacobloving6765 that's rude
hope you've been watching their newer videos about how they stopped believing and realized the nonsense of it
Please don’t speed these podcasts up. I love hearing about this side of the story
I felt like exactely the opposite. Never appreciated the fast forward function so much since it felt like it took them years to get to the point.
@@mariojahn8219 thanks for sharing, but who asked? but sinse you made a comment anyways, ill ask.. what was the point you were waiting for? And when you watch movies, do you skip directly to the ending?
Best Ear Biscuit yet. Easily. Things just start to make do much sense now.
Really appreciate this podcast, and can’t wait for the rest! Thank you for your honesty and finally connecting the dots! You guys are the best!
This was really fascinating. The whole hour went by in minutes! Don't be afraid of going deeper into detail.
This series is utterly fascinating. I am enjoying it so much. I've listen to all three (there's an extra one on Spotify - Rhett's story) and I can't wait for more. Really looking forward to Link's side.
I feel so luck to have both of you in my daily life, in any way I can, but this has just been so private and personal and beautiful. Thank you.
Growing up near y’all, I resonated and recognized so many stories given here, but never realized they originated from R&L. Keep sharing your story!
I was also raised in a small town, southern Baptist church. I can't wait to hear the rest of the story and your individual perspectives on religion today.
I just discovered you guys a month ago. I loved this so much. I love people's stories it makes us who we are. I'm so glad you were ready to share. ❤️
Almost 3 years later, this was still the most incredible episode of any podcast I've ever watched. My eyes were wide through the entire thing. I was just gobsmacked.
Of course all the episodes in the lost years/deconstruction series are all incredible, but this first one was like a bombshell for me.
i grew up watching rhett and link, and as an adult grew apart from their content, i would always check in on them and whatnot, but finding this podcast has actually been a wonderful experience. i feel like i am getting to know the people i wish were my dad better, instead of hearing awful stories about my own father that make me ashamed to exist. i just love their positivity and kindness
Rhett and Link you guys are the best! I still remember when you first did the Facebook Song! Keep on making amazing content!
The most unholy thing is changing WV to NC in country roads
LOLOL 💖
The original first-draft lyric was actually about Massachusetts! (the co-writer was from MA) :)
Liāna Lloyd but he also said he didn’t want to write about MA because the word was musical and that WV was quintessential because he used to listen to Saturday night jamboree
Liāna Lloyd that’s kinda interesting lol
Hehehe
You guys have been such a positive influence on me, you are two incredible men that God has placed in my life when I needed it most. I really hope to spend eternity with you guys. Always thankful and always praying for you guys.
Î wish I could give your comment a million likes
@@Chonzik12345 thank you!
Was waiting for this entire week :) good time to be mythical beast
I've been patiently waiting for this! Found out about your background through reddit forums but have always been intrigued in the details and now.... its here! No need to worry about the time! Make it a 10 hour episode 🤣. Looking forward to more!!!!
I can't stop listening to these podcasts, The only podcast that has had my full attention all throughout!! Love y'all
A really thoughtful and enjoyable ep and it really does connect the dots for some of the stuff you have done (including the importance of the church in the novel). Im really glad your faith gave you the opportunity to hone your creative skills. Im personally not religious but have always appreciated those that are and are welcoming and accepting.
I'm glad you guys shared. So many young people are in the dark about college or just need to hear another person experiences to understand thier own. It's really cool, like a big brother or older cousin filling ya in on life. I appreciate it!
Normally an audio listener but wanted to see what y’all other mythical beasts thought cause I LOVED this episode. So happy to see all the support for them! I’m so pumped to hear more too!
I'm a small town Kentucky beast who TOTALLY relates to all your small town stories and Bleak Creek parallels. Thanks guys!
This has been a interesting and personal earbiscuit. No need to speed up or skip ahead. Thank you so much for being the people you are. ♥️
I can’t even explain how much I appreciate what y’all do and how real and respectful y’all are
I also was a part of CRU in college and very involved. It totally blew my mind to hear you guys talk about the weekly meetings, Big Break, Summer Project, Winter Conference, etc. cool to hear this side of your story!!
This is the most important video Rhett and Link have ever made.
Glad you decided to open up and share this part of your lives. Very real and that's what people love about Ear Biscuits!
Enjoyed this Ear Biscuits very much. Looking forward to the continuation of the story. 😊👍💛
The best biscuit yet! I wish all biscuits could be this personal and fascinating.
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS. Wow I have been laughing with you all for years but I was nervous to delve into this series because it hit home to me. So now I'm I got up the courage to watch these ear biscuits.
you dont know how long ive been waiting in my life to truly know the story of rhett and link...
And then at the end plugging that podcast?????? *chef’s kiss* I fw you guys so much wow
14 1/2 minutes in, I'd like to say I'm excited to hear your stories and happy you decided to share with us
I’ve been waiting on this since 2012, not even lying
Trace Chaffin I feel
Your story has piqued my interest and I can't wait to hear more! Thank you for being open and sharing something so personal with us.
What an excellent conversation! It's so interesting to realize when you have something in common with others and had no idea! I felt it when Rhett was talking about how their religion was "their world" growing up. I feel like not many people experience this or can get it unless that was exactly what you went through.
Rhett is slowly turning into Tormund from Game of Thrones.
Sardaukar lol, I have never watched it but goggled the character...he really does
Look, I straight-up had this exact thought the other day lol
For the record I would've been fine with an extended episode
LOVE the authenticity and vulnerability of this podcast ♥️
You're probably wanting to save this for another episode, so I won't spoil it. But I want to say that my family and I loved your work as *ahem* those fabulous brothers on that one kid's show. Your work has brought us a lot of joy over the years and I've just started listening to your ear biscuits, but we've sang your songs (my favorite is Maine Man) and my littlest sister and I sing your "I like what I like" song together. Your show is amazing, too! Thank you so much for becoming the awesome enternetainers that you are now and for taking us with you along the way! It's been a blast on this end! God bless you!
my favourite podcast..dont stop ear biscuits ever even if u decide to stop UA-cam..love it that much..its an insight into ur lives and generally into lives of Americans
I've been waiting for you guys to talk about this forever! Seriously though, as someone who grew up Evangelical and has myself traveled a very similar path, I very much appreciate how scary this is to put out there. You guys have a lot of wisdom, and the world is a better place because you've shared some of it with us. Thanks for continuing to make your lives about something bigger than yourselves! Looking forward to future episodes!
I never thought I'd like podcasts. I guess it just hits different when you feel like you connect on so many levels.
I’m so anxious as to where this story is headed. 😬😬😬😬😬😬
No matter which direction it turns, I’ll still watch.
I'm on my third time listening through this "series", PLEASE write a book about this! i feel like there's so much more
you have nothing but my undying love and full support Boys. You two are amazing and mythical. The love, respect, and care that you express and encourage all to give deserves nothing less. Love you boys. Thank you for trusting me and sharing these last years with me/us. I look forward to tomorrow's episode 2 of this series.
I’m so happy about this episode!!! I listened to the podcast where you talked about religion at length. Honestly, I think this was courageous of you to do.
I’m a bigger fan today.
I've had a long history with religion and I'm not a fan of proselytizing. That being said, it's incredibly interesting to hear about the other side of religion from two people I deeply respect. It's so fascinating to me to see how big of an influence religion can be in people's lives. Thank you for sharing your story with us. :)
