Miyako is a generational talent who is a virtuoso on BOTH the piano and guitar. She also composed & arranged "Swan Song" which is a creatively blended speed-power/neoclassical metal masterpiece. You can hear motifs from Romantic-era composers Chopin (intro, main riff, solo) and Dvořák (chorus) throughout the song. The piano intro is Chopin's "Étude Op. 10, No. 12 in C minor", aka the "Revolutionary Étude". This is one of the harder piano pieces to play because of the relentless use of the left hand and Miyako made it look easy. The Chopin piece Miyako (guitar/keyboards) is playing in the intro is "Etude OP10, No. 12" known as the "Revolutionary Etude." In 1831, some officers and citizens rose up against the Polish government, which was under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, in what was called the "November Revolution" but ended in failure due to the direct intervention of Russian troops. Chopin received this news during a performance tour. He never set foot on the soil of his homeland again. When the Russians invaded Warsaw, Chopin's agent presented "Etude OP10, No. 12" in Paris. Because of the agent's exaggerated publicity, people called this piece "Revolutionary Etude. Miyako composed "Swan Song" based on this "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony. Asami (vocalist), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics based on the historical background of "Revolutionary Etude" and inspired by Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake. "SwanSong" is a requiem dedicated to the warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland, a masterpiece that only LOVEBITES could complete.
There is no "wrong" version, just different. Thanks for checking this out. The piano intro was played at the Knockin At Heaven's Gate show, just wasn't included in the posted video. Now you know why we insisted on see it.😊🎹 Yes, Miyako is a phenomenal pianist. She is a classically trained pianist first, she picked up a guitar much later. Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, yep she picked an easy one, LOL. I believe her favorite composer is Rachmaninoff. The piano line during the song is a track recorded by her. While you're here at the 2020 concert, if you haven't heard them already, check out the first 2 songs of the concert, "Thunder Vengeance" and "Holy War".
Plus, I read somewhere that in the Knocken at Heavens Gate version, Miyako didn't want to overshadow Midori's solo so at the end she asked to have Midori's part louder than Miyakos piano until it is just the piano. Showing the closeness of this band and the unselfishness they possess. As for the mixing, I believe Asami wanted Knocken at Heavens Gate to sound as if the listener was at the concert and not have it cleaned up as much as previous show productions. Either way, you are correct as to there being no wrong version of this song, I will add to your statement, if it is okay, that there is no wrong version of any Lovebites song or show, just different and all is phenomenal!!!
@@rolandkarlsson7072 However, if you disregard the KAHG version, you miss out on one of the best vocal performances Asami has ever put forth, much better than the already great work she did on the FOAK version. @davidtormaschy9988 I'm not sure sure of the validity of that statement, as I've never read it myself, but doesn't it seem odd that Miyako would sit down to a piano, start playing and nobody can hear it, especially when you can plainly see her play it. Midori wasn't exactly playing the main part of her solo at that point either. It seems far more plausible to me, that there was a sound issue with the piano, it is a digital piano and all kinds of things can go wrong.
excellent reaction , music is by Miyako and lyrics by Asami , Miyako is now my favorite musician and LOVEBITES for me the best band in the world of any genre 😄🐺
Look at her left hand........yeah not too bad for a right-handed musician. As she is a savant and got bored with the piano she self taught the guitar at 18. Then she teams up with the other world class guitarist Midori and they practice together away from the band to hone perfection despite being polar opposites in personality. She may be a genius and this is an epic masterpiece but she still needs her insanely talented band-mates to be able to play this especially LIVE. Asami's vocals are perfect for this piece and the band just nails this especially LIVE. Nice reaction as always and thanks from the Wolfpack for all the support for the band!!
Well, that´s the contrary. Miyako starts learning piano about 3-4 years old. She has a performance level to play ni piano competitions. Only about a decade ago, she decides to learn how to play guitar and... she teach himself. Yeah, sounds nuts. That´s the "ice queen" for you. Also, Frédéric François Chopin, the author of this theme, made it purposely difficult. That´s because those pieces are for practice really difficult things, like play a lot with your left hand.
I will step out of line to say that, while this recording includes the Chopin intro, the intro did in fact precede "Swan Song" during the "Knocking at Heaven's Gate" performance. I will also submit a claim that the overall performance of the band on the KAHG version is better, most notably in Asami's case, in which she is absolutely stellar! It's the separation of the intro and the sound mix regarding the piano, rather than the performance on KAHG, that causes many to say the "Five of a Kind" version is best.
Yes, some people say that they are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. Again, Miho said that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Next suggestion “Epilogue” or “Empty daydream” (live)
I found it amusing when you talked about Miyako's left hand on the piano! This etude, like many others, were designed for training purposes and this particular piece was for the left hand! 😉

I stumbled across Lovebites a few months ago and I'm totally smitten. Everything you said is true, they are 5 extremely talented princesses, who play amazing music.
I took piano for a couple years. But i could never get my finger to play the simple songs. And here she is doing it with speed and accurately. Maybe this why i like this band so much.
This Chopin Etude (Study) was specifically written to train the left hand. It is one of his most difficult pieces and is musically incredible. The ladies are virtuosic in everything they do.
I think this was the second performance of theirs that I saw, some years ago now. And it was the musicality & efficiency of Haruna's drumming that really hooked me. Of course the sheer talent of the other White Wolves blew me away too. To really be blown away by Miyako's piano skills, please take a look at her arrangement & solo playing of Helloween's 'Eagle Fly Free'. A sublime piece of work. I would assume you know the band & the song. But as an added bonus you can also see a video of the whole band performing a cover of the song, live, in the 'Live From The Abyss' stream. I much appreciate your honest and genuine reaction. Also great audio mixing video and you voice. Thank you. Best reaction of this song, It was pleasure to watch your reaction.
Miyako is the Black Swan. The only musicians I know of who are in her league are Alma Deutscher (who composed operas and symphonies at the age of 10 and debuted at Carnegie Hall at the age of 14) and Joey Alexander, who was playing with Wynton Marsalis, also at the age of 10. Rock has never seen anything like her until now. And yes, the entire band seem just a bit unreal.
Great reaction to a great live performance! Being also a "pentagenarian" (based on your definition in the new "Channel welcome"-video) who got into (mostly Thrash) Metal in the middle of the eighties, I understand what you mean by "against the norm". In that regard, their most "against the norm"-performance so far is IMO the live version of "Break the Wall" from 2020 (which you might already have reacted to on your old channel), in which they managed to surpass the raw and heavy sound on Testament's studio debut "The Legacy" (still one of my favourite Thrash Metal albums) in a live setting! To top that, I think they would have to perform "Dissonance" live with the sound of Death's album "Leprosy". On a funny sidenote, I once saw this video being recommended in a comment as "Swan Song + shopin intro", which (in front of my inner eye) evoked the image of seeing these ladies being filmed while going shopping before they pick up their instruments and start playing the song.
Great review. Even without Revolutionary Etude, as you may noticed, this version is much better in the mixing than the version you reacted before. Knockin' at the Heaven's Gate version, we can hardly hear Miyako's piano at the end, and guitar sound was weak too.
I agree. This version is the best one. I'm glad I have them all on Blu-ray. "Knocking at Heaven's Gate 1 & 2" are still amazing shows in their own right. What I need right now is a new song and new music video from Lovebites! I hope they can release something before they start going on tour. 🥺🙏🏼
@@TheCyberMantis Hi buddy. Remember they must've been busy for their great world tour. You'll have great albums this coming Christmas, and some videos will be released previously.
Chopin wrote his etudes as "study pieces." Each etude was designed to improve a particular aspect of pianists. This particular one was designed to improve the speed and dexterity of the left hand; that's why her left hand never stopped moving. I play some piano and I can tell you that Chopin is difficult to play, and his etudes are really, really tough. Pianists should not even attempt playing his etudes (at least, not as Chopin as intended) until they have 15-20 years of playing. And that's only if they have been very serious in their practice. She's incredible as a guitarist, but I think she's even better at piano...and that's saying a lot.
Thank you for your reaction. Not sure about "the right one" but I think I may have realized why I think of this one as better and it is not about them playing, or the piano intro, but that the piano in the version of Heaven´s Gate is just a bit low in the production, at least on UA-cam. In this the dual part with piano and guitar the piano is actually more clear and high up in the mix, kind of a dual lead of piano and guitar, while in Heaven's gate I think the piano drowns somewhat. I just realized it is indeed available on Spotify in a part II of the live album so I will give it a listen there, maybe I change my mind. Have fun! :)
Did not change my mind. Listen to the live from Heaven's gate, part II, on Spotify and I can't hear the piano as clearly on this version during the dual lead with Midori's guitar as in Five of Kind. I'm quite sure there is a backing track of piano as well like the version from Five of Kind but also that seems to be very low in the mix. Maybe it is different at the actual event and that it is some kind of post production thing but as available I easily prefer Swan Song on Five of a Kind. Interesting to hear the bass more clearly in the new version though.
Thank you for this enjoyable reaction to "Swan Song" & Miyako's piano performance, as well as your recognition of drummer Haruna! As a drummer myself, she is amazing! I can’t believe we are here at the second version of Swan Song and still people are insisting on downplaying the KAHG version that has been published. We are very fortunate to have two different mixes that each present different aspects of the performance. FFS grow up.
Not only the intro, but unfortunately, the mix for the 2023 blu-ray/DVDs pushes the piano and guitars too far back. It's not as good as the other live performances from a sound standpoint. Really too bad because there are some great performances in there. You didn't have to, but it's great that you came back to check this one out and can now compare! Anything Lovebites do live is amazing, it's just this is a good one to see too.
The Revolutionary etude is for the left hand study and Miyako repeats this in the tapping solo. In background You can hear another Chopin etude: Ocean with the sound similar the waves of the sea! This is more epic that the 2023 version and the sound engineer for me performed better. Thank you.

Thanks for reacting to "The One", and thanks to the Wolfpack for insisting on reactions to this version! Imagine a music label that refused to share this full masterpiece on Lovebites Official channel ... but instead, shortchanged the band and its fans by releasing a redacted version, made worse by bungling Miyako's masterpiece and her seamless transition from guitar to the grand piano!
Even without the intro the mix is great for this, unlike the new version from heaven's gate. That is a tragedy that the new version has such a bad mix. The sound engineers failed in more than one track for the heaven's gate sets, I don't know who to blame, but someone dropped the ball.
There are NO 'wrong' Lovebites songs - just some different versions. Actually, the KAHG version has a slightly better performance by Asami. But, the piano in the mix is way too low. For me the difference between the two versions is that the KAHG version is good, but the mix on the piano and guitars is too low. The FOAK version . . is a straight up Masterpiece.

Miyako is a genius!!
Miyako (from LOVEBITES) / Eagle Fly Free (HELLOWEEN) - PIANO COVER [OFFICIAL VIDEO] ua-cam.com/video/-h3BLRs0Xr4/v-deo.html
Thank you! It is on the list!
@@ThePentagenarian You are welcome amazed that how she plays without a music score to read from also fingers move like a spider running. Ha Ha.
Don't forget about Michael Romeo. Before Lovebites came along, we had 25 years of Symphony X.
@@gatograto I look forward to everything they do!
Thank you for a great reaction. Always enjoy your insight and comments.
Thank you for this enjoyable reaction to "Swan Song" & Miyako's piano performance,
as well as your recognition of drummer Haruna! As a drummer myself, she is amazing!

please, do 2 or more together. All four?
Each is very different setting & presentation.
Haruna's 'message' is worth repeating, imo.

I have put it on the list!
Thank you.
Great reaction
The end of that piano was related to Poland's failed uprising resulting so many Polish death. Poland went on to gain independance finally.
I prefer both the guitar leads in this performance and the sound production of this video to those of the Knocking At Heaven’s Gate Blu-ray.
Miyako , our metal Queen
🤟🏻🔥Lovebites🐺Masterclass🔥🤘🏻
the controversy about two stellar versions of a masterpiece shows you how spoiled we are by this incredible band
Damn, i'm still wondering how and where they can fit the piano when on Stage in Italy 😆 Ps. there is another MV where she play the piano and the guitar at the same time 🤣

I don't know if You have watch the "Stand and deliver", but the video on studio. You find the real forse of Lovebites!
That’s better. 😜
🤘🤘🤘🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🤘🤘🤘
Even without the intro the mix is great for this, unlike the new version from heaven's gate. That is a tragedy that the new version has such a bad mix. The sound engineers failed in more than one track for the heaven's gate sets, I don't know who to blame, but someone dropped the ball.
There are NO 'wrong' Lovebites songs - just some different versions. Actually, the KAHG version has a slightly better performance by Asami. But, the piano in the mix is way too low. For me the difference between the two versions is that the KAHG version is good, but the mix on the piano and guitars is too low. The FOAK version . . is a straight up Masterpiece.
their english is a bit weird but who cares
Like your reactions but a shame your sound is not
synchronised
I noticed that as well this time around. I am working to correct the issue. Appreciate the call out!
Amazing musicians but I just can't get into Asami's singing.
