The Lazy Girl Makeover needs to be a series. I got a lot of rooms that need sprucing up and I'm feeling pretty low energy after working all week.
Yesssss
Yessssss 🙌
Ohhhh damn. Yep, ok I agree ❤ it’s officially a series
@@Caroline_Winkler 😁👍♥️🤗
Brilliant idea!!🎉
My favorite thing about your videos is that you don't just show us what you did, but you explain your thought processes and problem solving methods. I actually feel like I'm learning instead of just watching someone make their space cuter and then have no ideas how to translate that to my own space.
YES. The thought process of WHY she came to such a conclusion is what really helps.
Yes. She's brilliant.
Ugh this makes me so happy, this is always my goal!! I think one of the things that’s most fun to me is not just figuring out “the solution” but translating it into some kind of math that can be replicated. I’m so glad this feels effective, thanks for your comment❤️❤️
Yes!! The thought process is usually a mystery that DIYers don’t explain, and I feel that I lack. There’s so much more trial and error when you don’t know why something‘a gonna work or not.
finally a youtuber that actually thinks about practical and realistic makeovers and doesnt jsut paint everything white. Thank you
Practical? :D
C: I want to free up counterspace"
- YES girl, counterspace is important for cooking
C: _proceeds to fill freed counterspace with cute decor_
- ... okay ^^'
@@braria9855 she says she doesn't really cook, so it makes sense
😊Do love a white🤍 bright kitchen, but painting cabinetry takes serious know-how & skill. Even w/ permission, I personally wouldn't attempt it on a rental.
🎉Three Cheers 🎉for how Lazy Girl leaned into her fixed features. While a dark kitchen has not been my dream, she beautifully transfomed it w/an artsy elegant MOODY BOHEMIAN FLAIR. A petite ⚜️French Country jewel 💎 box circa 🖌Pierre-Auguste Renior🎨 late 1880s. Brava! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The commitment to having the coffee on top of the fridge with you is the energy I need in my life.
I know, right!?
Agree! I know I'm living my best life when I look out for my future self like that!
Yeah, she brought the coffee up before the paint. Got her priorities straight.
I never thought someone could make builder grade cherry cabinets look like the Feature. The wall color and backsplash is poppin 👌
Dah this melts my heart
Right? If I ever get a place that happens to have cherry cabinets, I might just do this decor as well.
Oh but I do love this and I do love you. You're the first UA-camr I've seen who's crawled up on the fridge, bum in the air, to publicly paint a tricky corner. Watching your channel gains tens of thousands more subscribers every week is almost as satisfying as watching your makeovers. And so well deserved too. You go, girl. I'm off to scout out your vinyl link and perhaps I'll finally commit to a backsplash of my own. Thanks for bringing your colourful, complicated, chaotic self to UA-cam. We're all the better for it.
Ahh I’m so glad you liked it Lisa! This is such a darn sweet message and so lovely to read. Sometimes I get caught up in the hamster wheel of filming and forget to step back and appreciate all the positive change youtube has brought to me. This comment captured so much of that. Appreciate you ❤big hug
@@Caroline_Winkler you just made my day acknowledging my message. Yup, you have 283 000 subscribers in your corner cheering you on, and I'm willing to bet you'll have 300 000 shortly. Who gets to add thousands of people to their friends list every day? Yes, it may be virtual friendships, but if you ever get to Tel Aviv I'd be glad to show you around. I'm so glad you so willing share your imperfect self with us so generously....clumsily cut bangs and all.
So well said, I agree 👍
My thoughts exactly
I bloody well love this gal 👧 . She is like a breath of fresh air and so darn natural. Love , love, love what she did in that tiny kitchen ❤
Girl, there's nothing lazy about this! You really put in some work! It turned out beautifully !
Even painted where she put up the backsplash!
@@idid138 , EXACTLY!!!😂
this outfit is very blues clues stevecore
Wow. I can’t unsee myself.
Exactly what I was thinking 🤣
Caroline, I’m a retired interior designer who delights in your channel! Your personality, quirkiness and beautiful way of expressing yourself verbally actually comes BEFORE the cool transformations you make to your place. I love that you lessen the fear and mystery for others who want to create their cozy space.
You rock the bared midriff tops - I’m secretly envious, as this look is not possible at my age! Deeper jewel tones set off dark wood so well. I think your best gift is how you finish the room with your accessories and arrangements. All the best, Caroline!
Wow. I used to dream of being an interior designer. How was your experience?
@@softtrain-1550 Earlier in life I struggled in school with un-recognized ADHD. This was not a “thing” in the sixties. I studied Interior Design through a college when my youngest was 2, and I was 35. I did 2-3 courses per term so I could handle the load and get good marks. I knew my abilities well enough that I never took on large, whole home projects. Too much pressure for a person with ADHD. I simply consulted on a hourly basis to recommend colours, furniture, layout, lighting, accessible design, etc. There’s a huge range in design, so determine your areas of interest and know your strengths/gifts. All the best!
I feel kinda bad for phrasing it this way, but you truly seem just so much more INTELLIGENT than other home decor creators on UA-cam? I love how you muse over your design decisions and create almost a philosophy/mythology around how you approach these spaces. It’s such a pleasure to watch.
I agree so much with this
Agreed!
So much in agreement with this!
Agreed! I think it's because she's a professional designer too.
Mythology? What?
I've been watching a lot of interior design/makeover videos for the last few years and I am now mad at UA-cam's algorithm for not showing me your content before. It is fresh, more relatable than many of the other content creators in this space. Love how you explain things, your thought process, the final results, your vibe and your sense of humour. Also love that the makeovers feel real, not like an instagram photo op.
I binged watched a lot of your content lately so this "break" is going to be good for both of us, I am sure :). Take care, hope everything... everything... is going perfect.
I've been dreading re-doing some rooms in my house. I'm paralyzed with laziness and dread. But your humor, attitude, and awesome results have inspired me. Love you, Caroline!
You’re a realist and I vibe so hard with that. Idealism is ignorant, pessimism is annoying. Realism is where it’s at.
That's an excellent quote!
Very well said.
same omg
That moment where you had to scale the fridge to paint the corner -- but still managed to bring your coffee with you -- made me laugh so hard! I love the sweet realism you bring to your channel.
Leave no coffee behind! 😂
Hope your knee is much better now than before.. God bless you 🙌.. Keep up the great work. We all love your thoughts and your work ❤
Love how practical your process is! Not spackling because peel and stick backsplash and a paint scraper for corners instead of painter’s tape is genius. More Lazy Girl Makeovers please!
Caroline, I think you are a makeover genius. The fact that you can do it on a micro-budget seems impossible. But you do it anyway. It's such an inspiration to see you work.
This transformation is literally insane, like I can’t handle it. I’d love a moody kitchen but I had to commit to either light or dark when I renoed my kitchen and I went with white for resale reasons, but dude… this moody vintage eclectic kitchen vibe is spectacular.
I seriously love the way you approach design - taking the pressure of perfection out of the process is so freeing and leaves loads of room for creativity! Love your videos!
I’m so glad!! We’re all gonna die 🤷♀️❤️
I approve of this comment! 👏
You said it perfectly
I would love it so much if you could give us color ideas that could make classic honey oak cabinets look "intentional". That would be so wonderful! I bet many people still have those honey oak cabinets.
I'm not Caroline, but have you considered warm greenish gray? I think it would tone down the cabinets and give intentional warmth and brightness, almost like a provence style home. What do you think?
@@margaritap.9459 Thank you! I will definitely look up that color.
@@margaritap.9459 I had also thought of going with white, to try and achieve that classic IKEA combination of pine and white. I was hoping that could help update the general look of the kitchen. Not sure...
@@carriek7993 ok, I see your vision, and I think it could also work well! I think I saw this combination with white countertops and it looked amazing. And just because you mentioned IKEA - I do think they are a great inspiration to look into styles and color combinations that otherwise we maybe wouldn't even think about😁
@@margaritap.9459 Thanks! Nice talking to you :)
A really cool way to bring some light in (while still keeping it moody) would be to add Kasa smart LED light strips on top of the cabinets so the light bounces off the wall and upward. Would also draw attention to height of ceiling and would make the light indirect. You can also set the color to anything you want and you can schedule routines so it can change to a certain brightness or color on a specific schedule. Love what you did!!
My mom was a designer for many years, and she NEVER used tape to paint - she used the same technique you do - so when I grew up and saw people using tape, I was shocked. Reverse shock. So I fully endorse your no-tape technique. Your room turned out beautiful! Thanks for sharing the process!
Agree, no tape here
Yes skilled professionals and experienced people that do know what they are doing, don't use tape.
And it becomes landfill garbage.
I am taking this validation with me to the grave bless u 🙌❤️
Same here! I’ve watched my mom paint countless times over the years. Then when I bought my first house, she helped me paint the entire thing. She free hands it, and I’ve truly never seen a better paint job than hers.
My kitchen is sweating nervously seeing me watching this video. Glow up pending I think. 💅🏻
Bahahaha
I love everything about this video: the transformation is spectacular, your message is what interior decorating is all about, your honesty and sincerity are refreshing and heart warming. This video, which is so much more than a kitchen makeover, is being saved for future reference. LOVE!
That dry sink is an amazing pick up! At first I thought it was a changing table but marble would be a bit cold for a baby!
THANK YOU. I still live with my parents, in my parents house, which is totally common in Indonesia, and spending 20+ years sleeping in my childhood bedroom is nearly driving me insane. The thing is, most of the furnitures in my bedroom are incredibly heavy (mostly dark colored teak wood, wardrobe, bedframe, and bookcase are huge they will need like 6 people to move them) and I have white tiles as flooring. The peak is when I got sick of binge-watching youtubers doing room makeovers with beautiful light wood flooring, sleek all new aesthetic furnitures and so I was like "I ain't replacing my old furnitures that's just not make sense & unrealistic". So I ended up leaning towards sprucing up the decorations to 'match' the teak bedframe & wardrobe, replacing my magenta curtain (yes you read it right) with green one, making the best gallery wall I've ever made and I kinda fall in love with my bedroom again now. What you said "working with immovable objects" is very relatable to me so again THANK YOU Caroline for making this realistic video and made me realise that I am embracing what I have & I feel proud of it.
i feel youu! caroline's simple and fun approach to design is what really gets me. just try and fail, rather than overthinking it and be discouraged. you could probably use vinyl wood sticker on the white tiles, they come in textured and very realistic these days. it's giving such huge difference to my bedroom. i could give you the shopee link if you want.
@@reinour3932 yes I've been contemplating about using them, thanks for the advice!
I love your bangs. Now I want bangs. Haven't had them since I was like 8. Maybe I can talk my twin sister into getting bangs first.
@@reinour3932 please share a shop link! That sounds great.
I loved that blue as soon as you started painting. This is my kind of makeover. Minimal skills to none required and working with what you already have. Too many people just destroy old sturdy stuff instead of trying to work with it. Your kitchen looks so pretty.
Yes older cabinets are way better than newer stuff. If they are in great shape, they are worth keeping.
Appreciate this so much ❤
Your kitchen looks great. Good job! 😊
‘I don’t crave the manual labor at this point in my life.’ Girl preach
This is like the 4th video of you I've watched and I'm in fkn love with your energy and bluntness! Woman, you're awesome! And I loved sooooooo much how real this was. Some days you can go all perfectionist and do all the "must do things" but others you just want a quick make over that would makes un happy and satisfied! This was so great. Thank you!
I loved the way you approached this. You treated that little kitchen like a person with feelings: gave it a nice hair cut, helped it pick out some clothes that accentuated its best features and allowed it to shine. I only appreciated the depth of the blue on the walls when you brought in the oil paintings and more wooden accents. You have a great eye! Bravo.
I’m a HUGE advocate of not waiting for the dream house to make a beautiful home of the space you live in now, and I appreciate immensely your encouragement here! The kitchen looks so lovely ❤
“I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but I’m saying it’s what I’m gonna do.” You speak my language, sister.
I absolutely LOVE this makeover!
Caroline: A lazy DIY, I will not be doing manual labor
Also Caroline: Climbs on top of her fridge so she can paint the walls.
And also brings her coffee up with her hah😅
@@thelordismylife2001was just gonna say that! Totally something I would do, made me laugh.
Thank you for serving content that's immediately relevant as I've been trying to update my violently early 2000's kitchen
Violently 2000s bahahah
Violently 😹✌🏿
Violently, bwahahaha.
2000s home decor is coming back! Look up some of the ways people are using oak cabinets these days. They scale the whole aesthetic back a little, but wood cabinets are very much back.
I totally feel inspired! Thank you!
Ugh I just love you ❤
Caroline, you're a magician! How you just made cherry cabinets look intentional and desirable amazes me. And that dry sink? Holy shit that's cute and perfect and moody and cozy. You knocked this one out of the park.
This is why I love your decorating content. You cannot spend $1000 on every room when you live in a rental. $500 is workable for a really nice space that your landlord isn’t going to hate. And then…when you own your own house, the budget actually gets more important because you have to FIX major problems on the house!
Such a talent! Love your style ❤
That before-and-after is SWEET! Especially the coffee cart corner. Loving the juxtaposition of the classical portrait and the pan!
Omg I think the pan is my favorite part of the whole room. Very titillating to me
"Shant be" is now in my vocabulary to use as a Lazy Girl Makeover LOVER! Also....
Living dangerously on the edge with NO TAPING before painting!!
I'm here for ALL of it!! 💜
Can’t wait to hear daresn’t, which apparently sounds like daysnt. Big fan of whilst.
So glad you didn't paint your cabnites...all those who are painting will regret it when wood comes back..plus classic is never bad
For an espresso brown cabinet color and dark brown speckled granite, what colors would you lean into (like how you used blue) to compliment the space? Would love a vid on how you choose colors! :)
Thanks. I needed this today.
The kitchen went from meh… to HOLY SMOKES I WANNA LIVE IN THAT KITCHEN. It’s so beautiful!! Your style has become a huge inspiration for me! 😊
I can't get enough of your storytelling, your editing, YOU! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dangit! 🥹❤️😍
Love love the classic blue!
It's stunning!
Girl, your candor is everything "I don't care to work hard at this" and this kitchen is GORGEOUSNESS. I especially love how you moved Franco (the quizzical looking dude in the hat has always been Franco to me) from the living room to the coffee bar. But my FAVORITE thing is that when I saw this video's title in my sidebar (LAZY is my default), first thing I thought was "Oh yeah, makeovers, it's Saturday, gotta check for Caroline soon as a I finish this", and lo and behold, it's you! Thanks, girl. Get your rest.
You can probably reverse the hinge on your fridge to the opposite side so that the door opens to the left. It would be more convenient to use that way. Incredible make-over.
Yes! I’ve done this a few times and it works out perfectly. Also front loading dryer/washers can also be switched 😊
Yes, and it makes for a much more efficient kitchen.
But when you do that, switching the hinges, be sure you redo the seal. They did that to my new freezer and the freezer started growing ice inside. I called them to come look at it and they had to get out there hot tool that looks like a handheld dryer and redo the seal and then the freezer stopped making ice it was a very easy fix. The air was getting in around the seal where they changed the hinges
You have such a gift! Beautiful kitchen makeover!
Love it!! Great job
Definitely inspired. I like the message “don’t wait for your forever home” and I like that you worked around what was already in the space. and it turned out so good! Organizing and hiding the trash can made the space look a lot more elevated. The art looks great with the new color.
Also, how do you not get paint on your famous white sweats? Haha. ❤
I can sooo relate to doing something and then immediately disliking it. There is definitely something to be said about living with design decisions for a period of time and really sitting with whether or not it’s right before changing anything.. you did such a great job on this reno!! Cute as usual ❤
When I decided to have my 1930s vintage couch and chair re-upholstered the shop told me to take the swatches home and lay them along the back of the couch for a few days. The idea was to see them in different kinds of light as well as note how I felt about seeing them every day. Although I took several swatches there were two strong contenders.
The advice was very wise: the one I thought was The One was almost invisible in artificial light and after a few days I wasn't quite so thrilled with it. I chose the other contender, and 17 years later I still love how it looks.
So so true
The space is stunning, you are so funny. Def subscribed. ❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
i really enjoyed this! your personality is amazing!
Caroline!!! I NEEDED this lazy kitchen video so much! My house has a dark kitchen, I can’t afford a big upgrade, nor do I know how to use power tools. This is JUST the inspiration (and product links) I needed. And who knew there were magnetic spice racks for the Fridge!! Or lamps are ok in the kitchen to help with mood/ task lighting!!! Thank you!
Ahh I love to hear this!! Yeah the lamp light is major for me bc the overheads are quite unpleasant and I have to turn them on most hours of the day bc it’s so dim. The lamp has made it way…vibey-er??
Not everyone's vibe but I have a salt lamp in my kitchen, amazing for mood lighting, I have it on all day.
idk why I feel like cherry furniture is gonna have a moment again soon. It seems like everything keeps coming back around, and now that more moody interiors are in style cherry looks pretty good with it if I must say. lol
With everything made of plywood and people continuously searching something that feels more adult and timeless, I think brave people will look to cherry wood as a way to achieve that feeling.
Yea I’ve been feeling crazy but i kind of want cherry wood cabinets with a dark moody kitchen 🤩i think if you decorate around them right they really are gorgeous
fr, i think everything in interior design has been white and plastic for too long so people are probably gonna turn to colours and wood again
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING🎉🎉 LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
YOU ROCK
I love it too and I love that you shopped your home to complete the look!
"I don't know what my point is but I'm still talking." Can relate so much. Happens to me all the time. Love this DIY channel. Caroline, you are so entertaining, and your design tips are great and achievable for all of us just normal folks, who are also lazy and cheap.
Caroline I love when you voice your internal dialogue externally 😂it gives me life! “I don’t want to gain muscles from this”!!! Priceless and so dang relatable 🙌🏾
Looks great. Thanks for okaying those old things we still love by giving them a new context.
I love it! Nice job!
Thank you for explaining why you chose to use a pattern because of all the solids around the kitchen. I am not a pattern person but I really see the value and am going to start adding more patterns into my decor. Thanks for teaching me that! I love how casual (and honest) you are about DIY projects - just do what you can to make it better now and not wait for it to be your fantasy makeover. Such good advice!! ♥
I'm getting ready to move and as a renter I do the bare minimum because I figure I might have to move again within 5 years, but I just spent 7years in a rental that I hate and never personalized. The next place I move into I will personalize, because you're right about not wasting time. I want to feel great in my space, not like I'm at the bus stop waiting for a better place to invest my money and creativity on. I love how the kitchen turned out. Great color scheme to go with the cherry wood.

Switch your refrigerator hinges to open the door toward the cabinets. It makes it easier to put groceries away and pull out ingredients for cooking.
I was thinking the same.
Beautiful project! Love it!
Love your makeover!!❤ very creative.... it's beautiful
Girl! Let me tell you. Your honesty just gives me life. As a designer there are so many times you just have to go with the educated decision and hope for the best. And I love that you repurposed and owned the ‘lazy’ phase you’re in. Classic!
I love what you did. For $500, you need to do more of these series!
Love it! Love your colours! And love your art!! Excellent job!! 💙
love that shade of blue with those cabinets!
it looks amazing
We currently live in Malaysia and I swear you would scratch your eyeballs out if you could see our rental. The main room has 3 (!!!) different kinds of wallpaper on three walls and one of those walls had STICKERS OF BRICKS on it to make it look like ….. a fireplace……. In a Country where it’s literally 30 degrees Felicia and more every single day. And don’t get me started on the kitchen. Unfortunately none of your ‘this works for literally anyone’ tips will fly here 😭😭😭 ps under the brick stickers was an entire wall of black mold because the stickers trapped the condensation so yay, adulthood! 😂
Absolutely love the paint color. It really makes not only the cabinets pop, but also looks so nice with all your beautiful art. I love the way your home feels like a gallery in every room. I feel like I would spend so much time just staring at everything on the walls. Such an inspiration!
Love it!!! and I DO feel inspired!!!
You make it look so EZ! Love it. Thanks for inspiring me CW!!!!
Easily my FAVORITE channel right now.
Real. Relatable. Entertaining.
I look forward to Saturdays so so much!
The kitchen looks great!
Just an FYI to everyone about painters tape, professional painters don't use tape, it's called "time is money". 😉👍💕Also, when we were renting, the landlord allowed us to paint the apartment so long as when we left we paint it back to white again and that's what we did.
You did such a great job! :)
You did a great job! Love your energy!
I NEVER tape either. I did it once. It took forever to do it and THE PAINT LEAKED UNDER IT. It takes little time to go out and get a decent brush (not even a great one) that will give you a sharp line. Saves HOURS.
I have a 110 year old home with cherry trim in every room that I refuse to paint white, so I was basically forced to paint our dining room a moody teal blue/green. Artwork and lots of plants helped. The only difference is it took me about 6 months to decide on the color and even now I’m not sure about it lol. I still need to paint our hallway so maybe I’ll try the paint you used in your kitchen. It looks great! ❤
This was great!!!
This was awesome! It looks great! And Im feeling inspired!
Thoughts from a retired kitchen remodeling contractor...
New hardware is almost always a big impact and easy move. Good girl
A kitchen needs more light than any other room except a bath vanity and we already light that well. So look into under-cabinet lighting as a great way to have mood lighting and light on your work surface. (Love the little lamp idea.)
You can change the darkness or brightness of your cabinets and the whole room with a countertop change to a different color/finish. Counters probably impact the look of the room even more than the cabinets.
Metal ceiling tiles (mid-1900's diner look) can make a great backsplash. Looks good and easy to clean.
And as a "mature" person that grew up with little milk cartons in school, I absolutely love that glass milk/creamer "carton." It fills a little warm place in my heart.
God bless.
I woke up this morning thinking “Yay! It’s Saturday - a new Caroline video!” And the kitchen makeover was just what I needed. I’m itching to upgrade my kitchen but can’t afford much. Thank you for encouraging me to make little changes where I can. I’m bummed you might be taking a pause, but you deserve a break, so go for it. I hope you miss us/this so much you can’t stay dark for long.
I love the kitchen color!
YOUR BANGS LOOK GOOD!
