That was really classy of Mark Mylod, bringing on Andrij Parekh and Lorene Scafaria, the other Succession directors nominated, on stage. Andrij started as a DoP in season 1 and worked up!
Andrij's process in Succession is remarkable. He went from being just the cinematographer of the show to getting a directing gig for some of the show's best episodes is a testament how talented he is. And I was definitely surprised to see Lorene Scafaria being part of the Succession directing team too
Mark Mylod deserves this, Succession team is just unstoppable and i love it! Connor's Wedding is one of, if not my favourite episode in the entire show. I remember seeing his Vanity Fair video of him breaking down the scene of the episode, he credited everyone involved and was so detailed about what he was doing in making that scene. And love seeing that he brought Andrij Parekh and Lorene Scafaria to the stage. For me, Mark's win is everybody's winner in the Succesion's directing team. The importance of The Little House theme playing can't be understated, fifty years ago one of the most important comedy/drama series of all time began. I'm glad they played this moment! Rest in Power Michael Landon.
Not to mention that Mark directed all the best episodes of Succession including “Nobody Is Ever Missing,” “This Is Not For Tears,” “All The Bells Say” and “With Open Eyes.” This was a long time coming; he hadn’t won a directing Emmy previously (he’s an executive producer on the show so technically he’s won for that). Same goes for Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin getting their very first Emmy wins in their respective categories. TLOU was very lucky to get more than a handful of nominations for its first season, especially to get acting nominations at multiple awards shows. Genre shows like TLOU don’t tend to get awards nominations unless they’re on HBO. People forget that Succession’s first season got nowhere near the amount of nominations TLOU’s did. It got 5 Emmy nominations and 2 wins (writing & title music). NONE of the Emmy nominations were for acting. Pretty much the only other awards nominations it got that season were one actor getting a Critics Choice Awards nomination (lost), another actor getting a Golden Globe nomination (lost) and a BAFTA international series nomination (which it did win). That’s it. So, newer shows like TLOU can wait their turn.
I want to let you know that Amazons AWT77K made it this year. Any better way to start a global change? Dont get me wrong I know they are not like altruists or something but they keep doing the right thing to improve the situation, power the ecomonmy and so much more. We need players like them and we can always jump in the train at good spots such as this one
