I mean, in the old testament of the bible sacrificing animals to god was pretty much considered necessary. That only changed when Jesus was crucified, he was the ultimate sacrifice and meant that humans no longer needed to sacrifice animals in order to honor god. At least that's how the Baptists tell it. Maybe she's just old school like that and thinks humanity sacrificing gods son wasn't good enough and she needs to keep throwing him animals "just in case" or something. This was established with Cain and Abel actually. Abel sacrificing animals pleased god more than Cain's sacrificial veggies, so Cain killed him out of jealousy. This established that god does indeed prefer animal sacrifice.

Trump won’t pick her now, not because he cares about dogs (he doesn’t) but because of the backlash and he is ego driven he won’t pick someone that might take attention off of him. He wants someone who will do what he tells them to and be virtually invisible.

As a working dog owner, pointers included, it shows multiple things: 1) she’s a lazy working/bird dog trainer. 2) She obviously doesn’t know the breed very well 3) Bird dogs instinctively kill birds. Not always just retrieve them. They tend to do both at the same time if the bird was only clipped and injured in the hunt. 4) 2 months in dog age is a crazy amount of time for evolution. Pointers are still considered puppies at 16 months due to age longevity of dogs their age. 5) If a dog is coming off a hunt, that doesn’t just turn off. They have an adrenaline rush. The dog would turn on her trying to take the dog away from its instincts. It’s part of why they need training and to hone the skills that is breed for centuries into them
All that said, as a country girl and a girl who has put down dogs before none were 14 months old. They were either at the end of their life and suffering or were severely injured. None were because I sucked at training them and we have rehomed dogs that weren’t a good fit. I currently have a 4 years old chihuahua/beagle mix who bit me a few months ago. Did I put him down? Hell no. I evaluated my behavior and his, like a good owner does. I was at fault and got in the way of a situation and he bit me instead of what I was protecting him from. I’ve never seen a dog more apologetic for his behavior. I have an action plan for moments like those times going forward. It’s not my first dog bite. I had a far more traumatic one over 10 years ago when I made the mistake of trying to pull an injured dog from a cage instead of opening the cage up from the top to try and get her. Her instinct was from pain. You have to be retrospective when looking at dog bites.
I can read animals better than I can read humans. My family calls me Dr Doolittle because I’ve taken feral animals and tamed them into the most loving animals who are loyal.
At the end of the day, she screwed the pooch with this one. As for the goat, goats head butt people. Again it’s instinctive. And uncastrated male goats, like uncastrated bulls are mean and dangerous. You act accordingly. It shows yet again how dumb she is not only with farming but with animals.

Because there are Republicans all over social media making excuses for her and telling people, "you've obviously never been on a farm or handled hunting dogs." Kids could have easily avoided the goat pasture. She could have neutered the goat. She likes killing.
The fact that it was "got their clothes dirty" and not "potentially hurt them" may be telling on more levels than one, as it implies she doesn't care about the well-being of her children beyond how it might be inconvenient or embarrassing for her.

Fyi hunting dogs are trained to retrieve dead birds. A good hunting dog will have a soft mouth and not puncture or damage the bird. Canines are carnivores, though, so instinctively they want to chase small animals

Farm folks are just as disgusted because while having to end the life of an animal in your care is an inevitable part of ranch life, it is not something you take pride in. It is treated with the gravity, weight & emotion the act deserves & to try to use it for political points is as appalling as it is disgusting.
This could have been a great portion of your book if you had framed it as a failure, which you had to learn & grow from. Instead, you relish in your failure, you hold it high & wear it as a crown to signify that you can "take care of business".

I too have had an aggressive cat. I made the “ hard decision”, to find a no kill shelter that adopted him out to a more suitable family. Didn’t kill his mean little a$$ though.
I once rented a room in a house that had a cat that scratched you if you touched him. I did that only once and then just left him alone. I thought he was cute despite all the meanness. Nobody in the house wanted to get rid of him. Luckily, he was aggressive only if you touched him. Even the owner didn't touch him. Your cat sounds even more aggressive. I'm glad you took him to a no-kill shelter. There's usually always a humane way to deal with a particularly aggressive pet.
So regarding working dogs: I spent a couple summers working with a friend's dairy goat flock. They had 2 Great Pyrenees mix dogs as flock guardians. They used to have 3, but the third didn't bond correctly with the flock and was more interested in chasing them. It was a dangerous situation for both the goats and the dog. In addition, this was the youngest of the 3 dogs, and was still in training. (This breed matures very slowly and can require extended training.)
My friend realized that the problem dog wasn't going to assimilate into his job with the goats, despite assistance from the two older guardian dogs. She was going to have to get rid of that youngest dog.
She's worked with livestock for all of her adult life, and has no qualms about euthanizing animals when it's necessary. Is that what she did with this dog?
Fuck no! She REHOMED him. She found a family that was looking for a family pet. The dog apparently is now living his best life as a babysitter/pony for his new owners' kids. _That_ is what you do with a working dog: You learn how to properly train your dog, you train them consistently and patiently (and without a fucking shock collar, btw), and if the training isn't getting the results you need, you rehome the animal. Simple.
Mike, most of the time when a politician "writes" a book that becomes a "bestseller" PACs and similar organizations will bulk-buy 5,000 or 10,000 copies at a time and then give them away at campaign events. Almost no politician is popular enough for enough real people to organically turn their book into a bestseller.

If this is how she reacts to "disobedience", Noem shouldn't be allowed around children, let alone animals. Gods damn, what a psycho! That she had a dog who's so poorly trained that killed chickens and still let that dog off the leash is 100% on her. Training animals require intelligence not just from the animal in question, but is more importantly required from the trainer. Misbehaving dogs, in my experience, is not a dog with behavioral issues, but stems from a lack of communication skills on the part of the trainer. All dogs speak a language of sorts; Noem was either too ignorant or stupid or both to learn this language.

I think she is so insistent on doubling and tripling down on this because on some level she knows what she did was wrong, so to continue to think of herself as a good person (as all awful people want) she has spent years convincing herself that she made the right call, and all these news people throwing it back in her face make her self defences kick into high gear and she feels an overpowering need to justify herself.

I'm not a farm person, but when I hear "livestock", I think of cows, pigs, or goats. I don't think of chickens. Aren't chickens categorized as "poultry"? Maybe chickens are also technically "livestock", but she's 100% counting on people picturing Cricket killing cows and pigs rather than chickens, in order to make her sound like a frothing, crazed "Cujo"-type rabid mongrel, rather than a 14 month old puppy.

So her team came up with the argument that 'it's OK to kill puppies if they're "working dogs"...', and it REALLY wasn't landing, in multiple interviews... so for the last interview they REALLY prepped the interviewer... but it 'still' didn't land... because no one believes it was 'a vicious animal'... it was a 'bird dog' that was 'untrained' and 'not kept on a leash or in a crate' when brought directly to 'birds' RIGHT AFTER IT HAD BEEN TAKEN HUNTING!

I grew up on farms. I have never shot a dog, not once. I have had to put livestock down due to injury and illness, but for dogs, horses, etc, you call a vet, because those animals are not the same as a sheep or a pig. Another thing, with a working dog that is 14 months old is not an adult. As for it killing chickens, she says outright, that Cricket was to be trained to hunt pheasant. A bird. Chickens are birds... I know from experience that in the dogs mind there's not a million miles between chickens and pheasants.
