If you have been following our story, you will recognize this project all the way back to it's UA-cam premiere on The Great American Farm Tour with Justin Rhodes. Since that time, we have featured this project a few additional times to update the progress as we work through a series of phases - clearing out invasive species, resolving erosion problems & reviving this paradise property, creating a lush enjoyable landscape for the special homeowners.

I really like the layout of the the plantings. The difference in sunlight is nice . Areas of full sun , dappled light and shade. Must have it's own microclimate.oh yeah, and I love the disco ball!
This project was a favorite for me also!
This was perfectly timed, I'm planning another trip to Echo farms Thursday, this refreshes my 'want' list...what a beautiful garden paradise, only a year in to mine and already I have people stopping by with questions...my most fave comment is, 'we can hardly see your house now'...YES, fist pump...as I learn the Florida seasons and what to plant or not, I daily pinch myself AND I'm so glad to have found you guys...um, excuse me while I click repeat...
Milkweed Dreams thank you! I’m currently in Ft Myers on a project about 30-40 minutes from Echo, love that place! Glad to hear the Forrest is thriving 👊
Me too, more katuk, chaya, galangal, edible hibiscus, another banana, and a beautiful Noni tree...bought few hausa potato plants to try, my Okanawa spinach is about 5 ft across now...are we having fun yet...!
@@milkweeddreams8828any tips for the spinach in our area? Should u plant it in a container, raised bed, etc? Not sure how much sun either.
Andrew S I planted mine in the understory, partial sun/shade, nothing special, just organic soil in the hole and fish emulsion...raised bed would work, but I just let mine ramble, it's beautiful and lush.
@@milkweeddreams8828 Thank you so much for the quick response, best of luck with all your endeavors.
Looks great. The bananas look happy!
I can say from experience, adding a permaculture garden adds value to a house! I bought my place in vero beach in summer 2016 for $105k and sold it for $145k in December 2017! I completely believe it was because of the work I put into the yard and house itself. Crazy! Good looking yard Pete, nice job!
There was also at the beginning of the real estate market taking a turn let me up with position that house is probably worth more now just because of the market.
But I am curious as to the extent you created a food Forest -- what did you do?
wow that place is goals... cannot wait to see how this progresses
Will Grant thanks bro! 👊
I keep revisiting these and gleaning more, over the yrs as I try more stuff more insights become relevant, today it was especially about pineapples and starfruit, I'm in marginal 9a farther N. Cali and failed with pineapples so far but still trying.
I truly appreciate your videos! They are so informative. My husband and I are moving down to Florida in September and I have no idea how to garden in that environment. We purchased 10 acres last year and I want to build a food forest. I am eager and excited to start and your videos are helping me out immensely! Thank you so much!
Hi Cori! Thanks awesome, thanks so much for the feedback! :)
Wow, that should be a lot of back breaking fun
What a nice gentleman! His place is a paradise. Thank you for showing these interesting and educational videos.
Love this!! So happy, wasn't even a week between videos!!!
Boom Boom thank you! Trying to keep that weekly schedule going 👊
How awesome the property looks now! You are a green wizard lol. Green Dream your property and make ur body, ur life and the earth a better greener place! It works!... because nature does. The planet needs thousands more of you:)
Just watching your older vids again for the fun of it. Great stuff!
Thanks for the reminder! I should follow up here again.
The sound of critters is the highlight .. loving the disco ball in the middle of a food forest, coolest idea ever... What a mineral dense healthy soil man, it will grow gold ...
Thanks man! I need to do another follow up here.
Awesome Peet
I love it, looking fantastic 😊👍
Isn’t that beautiful! What a difference! Good job! That is why I love NW Central FL - the hills!
Thank you Pete! Property looks wonderful!!
Thanks Andrea!
Your work is soooo beautiful! I wish you were in my zone 7 area of MS! Anyways, great job, and I can see why these are dream clients. They obviously have great vision and dedication to the process.
Remember the original ! Another great video, Pete !
Thanks Jeff! This place has really came a long ways.
We love you. This project has rewarded us more than you will ever know.
Watching ur videos inspired me im from louisiana and this year started my food forest so far I planted a peach tree pear tree apple tree guava tree mulberry tree bannana blackberry added some social garlic spinach green onions dill parsley this weekend I plan on planting muscadines and plum tree I'm having a blast I have 3/4 of an acre ...
So awesome!
That’s maybe the best food forest have seen I love it
Thanks! 🙂
Thank you Pete.
I love how some of those bananas are producing even in the shade
They will do great in shade/ dappled light.
Great job Pete and team. You guys rock. It’s beautiful.
Love your videos!💚💜💙...you got me hooked in Permaculture/Food Forest! 👊Learn a lot always I see them!👌Blessings!🙏
Ivette Correa awesome!!! Thank you:)
That yellow flower towards the beginning in tickseed, or coreopsis, Florida's state wildflower. Our state "flower" is the orange blossom. The flower on our license plate is the blanket flower or gallardia.
Inspiring. Thanks for sharing your genius.
Great episode Pete. Love the updates. We focus on herbs and veggies but bought a house in Phoenix and learning about trees.
CustomGardenSolutions thank you! Very cool. I’d check out Stefan with the Permaculture orchard or Ben Falk for northern Tree species up that way.
Do you have a nursery where people can buy plants? Thank you Pete for your Y T channel. You have inspired me to start a food forest and to think about edible landscaping!
All I can say is wow!!!!!!!
Trying to get started
I have been wondering how this property was doing...thank you for the update! It's nice to see such beauty in my county of birth 👍✌
Disco ball in heaven!!! 😍❤🌴🌴🌴
I live in citrus. I need to visit!!!
Hey Pete, nice... Let me know when you can make it out to Center Hill ?
Lucky homeowners that hired you !!!
Looks great Pete
Video is labeled Spring Hill, FL, but narrated as being in Pasco County. Spring Hill is in Hernando County but borders north Pasco County in the Hudson area. Being a former resident of Spring Hill, I would like to know where this beautiful property is. Sure would like to revisit Spring Hill and this place if it's close. Kudos on the great landscaping putting nature back in our lives.
Hello! We live in Spring Hill Pasco, it was a surprise to us also. I’m sorry we aren’t open to the public. Thanks we love it here.

What part of Florida can I grown mangoes, plantains and avocados ? I love your wonderful work!!!❤
Pete, I have Beauty Berry on my place that’s a great bird attractor. Be careful with the Shampoo ginger as it can be invasive. I regret planting it on my place up here in Gilchrist County. I also have Bananas that make fruit most years. My problem with growing Pineapple is as they get just about ready to pick a critter most likely a raccoon will come along and eat it. Frustrating.Have these folks tried any figs? Looks like a good location for citrus. Nice garden and well designed.
Shampoo Ginger doesn't seem to be as invasive as Spiral Ginger.
Awesome work bro!
HF TL thank you! 👊
16:32 I got a ton of this stuff couldn't seem to get rid of it didn't know it was edible. -- now it can stay [smile].
thank you
[Note to self "American beauty- berry"]
Awesome! Chickens love the berries too
Looks like a dream.
Beautiful garden. How much to install the whole garden?
About how much does a project like this cost?
I love your work. Wish you were in Jacksonville!
Thanks Lauren! I’m coming that way for a project pretty soon 😉
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
Fantastic
Are you working on a food forest?
If so what is working for you?
I just started am going real slow in order to learn as I go
Hey Pete do you know if any of these properties are for sale?
Where do you purchase your plants from? Expecially your trees, there huge for such a short time in the ground. Where do you purchase everything when you design?
We have our own nursery. www.greendreamsfl.com
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL thank you
Does the Sweet Almond grow real almonds? That is really cool with the shampoo ginger! Thanks for showing that.
So how do you think D. Asper will grow in Dunnellon. Thats about 30 miles North of you, just east of Crystal River. I saw UFL rates it good for all Florida. It freezes to ground and comes back like that?
I had just viewed a bio char video that you were in back from 2016, nice
Lynn Plestid whoa that’s a old one! I was tagged in it yesterday on FB, I almost forgot about that video.
Is it normal for Mexican sunflower to lean over, I planted them about a month ago they are about 16 inches tall seems like they lean over after rain or watering for a pretty long time, like a cpl days. Didnt know it i should put some steaks in to hold them up or are mine just weak for some reason (beginner error lol). But I noticed when I put a tag on any of the branches so I dont forget what they are it seems to really effect the branch so was afraid to tie the whole plant to a steak...hope that makes sence
When it gets large it can weep a little, I’d give it a few weeks to establish some roots. They’re fairly tough plants.
I’m in spring lake have 20acreas do u do tours Hernando county
What a nice 🌱
Wow! That's all on a HALF ACRE?!
I have a Dorian that I planted from seed. Its been growing outside for a while and now I have no idea what to do from here. I'm afraid to transplant it but I'm sure it needs more to it space. If you could help that'd be great. I live in Port Charlotte, Fl if that helps. Thanks.
It’s beautiful.
I’m wondering what kind of price did you ask to do that work?
I’m in Land o lakes/Wesley Chapel area. Have an acre. Interested in edible plants, but we have a huge deer population daily. They have eaten so much before. How to deal with deer and plants?
Hello! We have a few ways to deal with deer. They don’t eat everything exotic either. Please email us if you’re interested in discussing this further. admin@greendreamsfl.com
What are you using to fertilize your banana plants?
Great Video
William Reeder thank you!
Goals!
Hi Pete, what is the name of raw edible bamboo? Is it a clumping variety? Thanks.
S Rymek is a very tropical variety called dendrocalamus asper, yes it’s clumping.
Thank you Pete.
How do you get bamboo to grow so straight?
Mine is a bushy mess! ;). This looks great! Fantastic progress!
How deep did you go when you laid your woodchips?
Acts2School
Trim off the those shoots at lower part..
I used fish emulsion on my houseplants that were in front of a window. I left the window open and overnight an animal clawed through the screen and destroyed my collection. I think it was attracted to the smell.
Dang! Plants and critters love it.
do you have (or know of a ) a house with garden for sale?
Where do you buy your sunshine mimosa seeds (mimosa strigillosa)? I can only find mimosa pudica seeds online.
I haven’t had the greatest success with seeds. I buy them as plants from my local commercial nursery in bulk.
Thanks, I will keep an eye out for them at my local nursery. I'm in southern California, and I don't think that perennial peanut or sunshine mimosa are as common around here.
My families property has very bad flooding issues but I would love to grow a food forest, any ideas on what I could do
You could put in a few drain tiles to get excess water off
D yes species that could handle wet feet like bananas, Malanga, Taro, sugar cane, gingers, elderberry and mango.
like that grass at 4 minutes
Beverly Hindersman me too! We are just starting to use the vetiver more.
is the disco ball some kind of pest deterrent? ive heard (and tried) of pennies in a bag of water so this might be something like it.
Melody and Papa Bear lol not sure if it was added as a pest deterrent. But I have heard of hanging old CD’s from trees etc to ward of birds and pests.
Disco ball/cd swill reflect light so that deer, rabbits, birds, etc will be very apprehensive
that the glint of light may be the glint off the eyes of a predator. Then again, the disco ball may just be a bit of "whimsy".
Oh yeah, I have hanging CDs in my garden.
I'm very curious about upward water movement in sandy soil. I know water infiltrates very quickly and deeply into it but does anyone know of a source that discusses water movement against gravity up through the sand ? I water lightly and often. My sandy soil is always moist even deep down. They say water attracts water so I'm wondering if my keeping the top soil moist helps attract and pull up additional water from deeper below to the surface and also into the soil from the air. If the soil drys out it repels water.
Hi Pete! It’s a great video! Do you have a website or contact information so I can get consultation on how to start a food forest?
Yes! We would love to help.
GreenDreamsfl.com
Pete, the only thing that survived out of my food forest box is the spinach tree. I cant find any recipes for tree spinach. Got any recipies?
Jill King sorry to hear that. We prefer the longevity spinach sautéed with a little salt and pepper. It goes really well with a tomato sauce also.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL you said in the video it must be bc cooked 20 mins. When you say sautee do you just cook it all the way down like a mess of spinach? I dont want to get poisoned. 😉
Jill King you must be getting confused with the Chaya, it must be cooked. The longevity spinach can be eaten raw :)
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL can I send you a picture of what I have? Want to make sure we're talking about the same plant.
Jill King sure it would be best to email @greendreamsfl@yahoo.com. The longevity spinach is more of a groundcover where the child becomes a bush or tree.
Best place to live n retirement from the bustle hassle city life.
how much did this install cost
Machond all three stages for the full acre were around 65k.
do you do installs in Illinois
Wot No Buddleia?
Pete i think thats was a clerodendron Bungei
I think the discoball is to repell birds...?
Golf cart thats going to compact the ground
why is the video hazy?
david chitembo idk it’s just UA-cam not Hollywood. Maybe it’s your connection...
When the SHTF... won't your neighbors take all your stuff..???
I need your brain on my farm! (Citrus county)
Banana tree needs sunlight more
Why mess around with time intense swale ??? Where have you been? Forget the swale. Get a pair or 2 of beavers and an equal number of nutria ; protect them from gators for 18 months etc viola! !! All the hydro-geographic work will be done to perfection. The water table, water shed, swaile,, Rares of runoff and flow will have been slowed such that the sand will become mixed with aggregates less prone to erosion the planet's original hydrographic engineers will ALWAYS do a more through job than humans
Geez dude..lol you have 27 thousand subcribers and still don't have a microphone to pick up your audio clearly.
I need your brain on my farm! (Citrus county)
I've got family in Citrus County. Going to start planning onto a "blank slate" soon. Too many trees coming down from neighboring properties though. Have to start small on the other side of the property.
