- We would only fall short on describing just how incredible of an operation this brilliant homeowner has created to feed not only his own family, but also those who come to visit. You just have to witness it for yourself! In this special feature, you will find a whole range of permaculture techniques & some uncommon techniques, like raising freshwater clams & freshwater lobsters, along with the tilapia in his spring-fed pond system in Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica.
Francis Mora, or Fran MoraChincilla, is another new Tico friend (i.e. native) to Costa Rica & we got the lucky chance to meet him, in order to take you on a special tour of his incredible homestead, all of this is thanks to Brendon McKeon of Natural Living Designs & Eco Oasis' UA-cam channel. Brendon co-hosts this tour as a great friend to Francis & we are thankful to have him as our translator. Brendon is the mastermind behind Natural Living Designs, a permaculture development design & build firm. If you have questions, or would like to be in contact with Brendon, you can send an email to him at: brendon@naturallivingdesigns.com

Francis is such an inspiration! The multi-tiered pond system he designed is just an incredible! It’s not often that you hear of people who truly produce a majority of their food on their own land, but he is doing it, and absolutely thriving!
And the meal we had at the end of the visit... first class incredible! Fresh tilapia, sun cooked beans and rice... and the homemade medicinal herb tincture he let us try was very cool.
Discovery Duo couldn’t agree more! This place was next level. He’s definitely filled the proteins gap with home scale production.
That was an amazing lunch bro! I could of had seconds and not sure why I didn’t with those extremely fair rates. Do you remember all the cool things up cycled from tires?!
Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL Ohh that’s right! The tire chair!! And sink made of tires!
Those "clams" are called mussels, we have them in America. My Grandpaw used to get them out of the Ohio river near Cincinnati before the dams raised the river level. He said it was common to get them over a foot long tip to tip.
Pete Kanaris....chinas are impatiens flowers!!
Thanks....great video.
My boyfriend and I just started our own proyect 3 months ago in the southern part of CR,(Puerto Jimènez)....oh boy it's hard. We built a small shack house..lol.....I started our vegetable garden. There's so much to do and so little time and money. I hope I have the strengh and patience to keep going. I've seen the most amazing birds in here......Red Macaws, tucans, parrots, hawks, titì monkeys, lizards, frogs, everywhere. I'm planning to build a cabin to open our proyect to anyone who wants to come visit here and experience nature first hand.
My respects to anybody doing it....it isn't easy. Wish me luck and wisdom. Peace, love, and nature to all.
That’s awesome!! Keep up the good work 🙌
Wishing you luck and wisdom Lola☀️. It is good honest hard work and the good news is it eventually becomes easier and more rewarding and you will become the fittest and healthiest you’ve ever been. ...nourished to your core. Sending love and strength from Waiheke island New Zealand 🌺❤️🌺
You don't have a boyfriend
I truly hope that things are growing well for you!!!
You're doing all this work alone ? Of course it will be hard for a woman. What's your man doing ?
That is one of my dreams is to have my own land with my garden and my pond and be able to grow my own food that is my dream beautiful
You can do it, Linda. We need more people like you who can do good work on this planet.
The African Wilderness School YES!
Linda Wood you can do this! We all can and help to lead others by example.
no grains , no oil (50% of food is missing )
Dave Lawson he actually grows rice for grains. He grows plenty of avocados and macadamia nuts for fats. Then presses his coconuts for oil. The video was already super long we couldn’t hit everything. Brendon has a video of him doing the process on his channel.
This is the life I want to live I'm planing god willing to do this in my country Somaliland Africa I love this
Regal Snow best of luck to you!
Thank you very much great job
Good luck... I'm planning on doing the same in Ghana.
I hope that you could pursue that dream by now, you do have the warmth at least im in a very cold climate where we can't grow food for half a year
Now I want a pond system just as this one in my garden for clams, fish and lobster. So inspiring.
The man is living his passion every day! Wow! I've never heard one person in permaculture speak of growing something to help bats. What a total system. I'm so looking forward to see what you and your family come back with! I triple live all of these wonderful folks you're bringing us. 😊
Thats for sure! I can't wait for next trip :)
Most bat’s species are doing fine in the wild. But we have also the vampire bats sucking blood from farm animals and are a vector for rabies. Whenever rabies appears also fatal for humans , vampires are caught at night with nets and killed. Rabies is the main problem but also cattle losing blood…
I love watching gardening/ perma(nent)culture videos during the colder months with all my heart. This has brought many joyful feelings and gifted many amazing helpful ideas! THANK YOU GUYS! Father bless the gardeners and pure at heart.
Love Warrior 🙏
😚💞👏 It's my pleasure to make your acquaintances! Thanks again! Looking forward to more videos from y'all.
Love Warrior thank you!
The man is incredible. WOW!! I have learned so much in a 26 minute video.
Freshwater clams are found in most of the riverways in Fiji, in the Southwest Pacific. They are sold in our local markets and make a delicious dish.
what a great life to have ! who wanna have that kind of life too?
🙌🙌🙌
whats the problem with people who dislike this video?
you could only watch this beautiful scenery, Pete recorded in in awesome quality.
not to mention that learning a few things is mandatory from this Pete's visit.
Seems we always have a few haters or trolls. Thanks for the support!
Hey Pete, please consider putting subtitles on the Spanish 🙂 While I'm sure the translations are good I would love to hear what this super knowledgeable man is saying in his own words as with many of the other people you've interviewed in Costa Rica
Beautiful farm he has! Thank you for taking me along.😃🌈🤙
fall short...yes indeed. just beautiful, peaceful. god,s peace.
Nice seeing the Australian (Crayfish) we dont call them lobster and also we have native fresh water clams but only half the size of the ones here but here we call them fresh water mussel's.
Damn this is heaven for me
Pete, I'm so glad that Justin encouraged you to start this channel. Your work is so awesome with some of the most incredible people on the planet! Happy New Year to all! Mahalo nui loa & Aloha nui!
Thank you! Its one of the best things thats ever happened to me. Don't worry I'm having just as much fun as y'all :)
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL You were born to do this, bringing the message & knowledge to humanity as to how the planet & people can be healed!
I was going to beg for a part 2. But I saw that one is in the works. Thank you so much for this.
And of course so healthy and completely organized in true Kanaris style. Keep it up man. You rock!
Wow! Beautiful. Bravo Francis!
I love Francis place. He’s really into nature which I like. The whole place is amazing!
All I know is if you have property and you're not doing this, you don't deserve your property...
Daaaamn Right
Kudos on translating!! That can be so hard to do sometimes! Thanks for doing it! This was such a cool video!!
These and the videos on Eco Oasis have been changing my life! I'm inspired and obsessed!
Glad you enjoy!
I loved the video and even the beautiful barking dog 🐕 He or she would be enjoying kindness and TLC if I was a guest on this amazing farm. 🚜
Castel's Posh Closet Hahah love it! Thank you
My boyfriend and I are building our "garden of eden" in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica. This is exactly what we're going for....self -substainable farm!! Thanks...great video.
Pete Kanaris....chinas are impatiens flowers!!
Thanks awesome Lola! Best of lake with your oasis 🙌
I also have been researching aquaponics right now just trying to learn all I can learn so when I'm ready I might have a beautiful garden thanks again for your inspiration
Linda Wood yes this style of aquaculture really makes sense! Thank you
Damn it man! You are totally killing it! Once again, totally impressed. Your stock looks awesome and of course
Really informative ...specially on the recycling ability of the fresh water clams to clean up the water in the pond.
I'm just wondering why people want to eat them. Filters of the water, that says enough...
It really depends on what you put in the water, and where you let them grow. If you didn’t put contaminants (nitrogen rich detergent, heavy metals, toxic fluids, pathogenic things) and fully cooked them before consumption, it will be safe to eat. If the water is highly contaminated, and the clams is undercooked or raw, you’ll probably get vibriosis (or other nasty disease).
If you still don’t want to eat them, you can still use them for other stuff. Like making compost, food for wildlife animals, calcium carbonate (from shells) for construction, etc. Either way don’t let their nature to accumulate toxins discourage you from getting them, they are a fantastic biological filter :)
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing your permaculture home. It is so beautiful, organic and green, green, green!!!
Natasha Semrau thank you!
We are in winter and your farm look like heaven! Thanks!
That is crazy I have never seen something like this on land. Amazing

MUCHO BEBE 😂😂😂😂 awwww . Great job with the Spanish !
Wow! Would I love to go and learn from Francis! ... What an Amazing Natural Farmer!
Seriously! Francis is next level 🙌
Thanks so much for this video
I love farming, because, it's my blood, all my life all I grew up in farm, before I move big cities, I loved and miss the nature and living in a Farm. Specially tropical farms, all the fruits and vegetables on the tropical farm and we had long beautiful Indian Ocean Beach, but, we didn't had no Resorts, because we lived what they called. ( the third World countries) so other than that. we were very much happier than when we moved to the big cities.
this is amazing !!!
Beautiful
Amazing!
Hey Pete, great video Francis definitely knows his stuff! We call the Australian crayfish you showed 'yabbies' here in Australia-most farms have dams with them growing. There's also freshwater fish and 'shrimp' -we say prawns, which live deep underground in drought then come to the surface in floods, they can spend decades there if need be! 👍🏻
Hey Trish! Hope you had a happy New Year. Wow I never knew that about prawn, how cool! Francis really had it going on.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL I did have a lovely New Year thanks-Happy New Year Pete, Melissa and Gavin! Yes the funniest prawn story recently was when the prawns surfaced on Uluru (if you don't know it-big sacred rock, middle of Australia) when there were massive rains in 2017. First time that had been noticed, but was probably something indigenous Australians have known for millennia. Bill Mollison mentions springs formation and native prawns in IntroTo Permaculture if you have it -one of the benefits of knowing about natural water harvesting. Francis might know certain species that do the same thing in Costa Rica?? ☺️
This is incredible.
Ohhhhh wowww amazing
Thank you!
Beautiful.thanks uncle pete!!
Thank you! I love the Uncle Pete :)
Thank you so much for sharing.love your work so much

Fresh water clams wow I never heard of that...great
They might be fresh water mussels. I didn't know you could eat them.
Sco tt maybe it tasty
impressive & inspiring.
Francis is a genius
incredible property
Here in tropical Far North Queensland, Australia, those yabbies grow wild and we call them "redclaw" instead of Australian Freshwater Lobster.
OMG and the green Star Apple is better than purple‽ That's a big call
🤷🏼♂️
Thanks Darryn. That's what we use for bait?
The green land....love it....
This was outstanding, had to subscribe!
mizzpoetrics thank you 🙌
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL You're welcome, looking forward to the rest of the journey. 🙂
Excellent
All these just blow me away. Not only for the food production but for the beauty of the landscape. And we have you to thank, Pete, for bringing all these to us. And your wife. In high quality. If I recall correctly, might have been a 30 day challenge from your nearby Permaculture friend, Justin Rhodes, that got you started on all these, correct ? What a long way you've come...so many great vid's, it sometimes takes you a while to upload now ! :) :)
Thanks buddy and happy new years to you and yours! I can still thank Justin for that challenge! And if I remember correctly you found me before that ?!? I think you commented on that first drone video. Mels experience with editing has grown leaps and bounds since those days. Yeah we are a little behind with uploads due to the holidays :)
yeah, I think I did, Pete...caught some of your earliest vids...you have continued to improve & excel. Happy Holidays ! Sometimes hard to keep up with these as well...as MUCH as I like to view them. So no worries ! Appreciate whatever you post ! (If you might still ship to the west coast (?) this early Spring, I may be interested perhaps in a couple of things...Chaya might be on that list). But either way, you always have a thumbs up from me here :)
Beautiful...look very cool
shalom patahilah thanks!
Oh lord give me such a beautiful land,I will be happy person on the world.love it
No Lord will give it to you, you can buy it it's really cheap once it's far from the big cities. I'm planning to do it also.
@@martingebauer1880 thx bro,it will be calm s beautiful like paradise.
Your video reminds me of my countryside ❤
What a beautiful piece of land, managed by a wonderful man! I learned so much from this and am so inspired. Wonderful to see how much it takes to produce enough food for oneself! It is inspiring and motivating!
tropingreenhorn thank you 🙏
I kind of figured that's why he had them in the pond because they actually clean the water it's like a water filter on those cuz they're doing something beneficial for themselves are eating the clams we used to have them in Florida like that but you don't see him like that anymore...
Nicholas Napier thats sad! Probably from excess nutrients and all the crap they spray lakes with.
Amazing
I LOVE TO DO THIS IN MY OWN LAND
Impressive garden.
This is the way we are to live and feed ourselves. This is God's way.😇
HEY Pete, PURA VIDA BROTHER, MISS YOUR C,R, VIDIEOS👍, have a great YEAR

I have a family relative that only eats from her garden the only thing that she doesn’t eat from her garden is fish, and she uses the water she uses to wash the fish as fertilizer for her plants.
