From WC USA, I believe Germany should Fund and work with Saab in Sweden to produce unbelievably superior Fighter jets and drones! For such a small country they produce top notch military Equipment!

Germany is committed to Airbus as an European project.
Which mainly functions as a tech funnel to French companies.

These Images are not new and were part of the Fighter 2020 project which had prototype model plane built and flown which was of model size back in the early 2000s, some of design work was later sold to Turkiye and used for as a base for its new fighter program

There is a place in the market for a sub F35 platform that is more or less a stealthified Gripen. The F35 is too expensive to buy in larger numbers as the current geopolitical situation requires. Not every mission requires F35 levels of sophistication so a still very capable, high quality European platform to augment European fleets in a POST American world where the EU members of NATO are less reliant on a fickle partner might be the big ticket for this platform

Considering the current F35 purchase price is now below $82 million vs the decades old, but most current model of the Gripen is around $85 million per unit cost I see your point.....why is the Gripen losing so many bids and contracts against a cheaper, yet WAY more advanced 5th gen stealth aircraft?? A new stealth Gripen will definitely be available for even cheaper?? Will it also be using US engines and major systems?
NATO power IS synonymous with US military might, seeing that it dwarfs the combined strenght of the many small EU nations in every aspect. Lose the US and 75% of Europe's current defence structure, logistics, and personnel go home with the Superpower.
Talking about Swedish prowess.....a nation that hasn't changed its status of "no alliance to anyone" and with its last war experience being during Napoleon's reign AND even decades before dinosaurs would be discovered......and in the same sentence calling the US fickle.....lol.
Sweden KNOWS it's the US's military strength, through American US tax dollars....giving the European security umbrella any actual deterrence credibility.....just as the Russians know.

@@patrickf4692 Look or read what Sarah Payne of the Naval War College has to say about this. It is strong alliances that wins wars. Considering the achievement of the Ukrainians with only previous gen NATO equipment I feel pretty secure even in a NATO without the US.
The unit cost of the Gripen is only hamperd by its low volume. Consider numbers like the F5 and Gripen5g is way more feasible. Even with only EU tech

@@gidsinveenhuizenpuntnl Realistically.... the Russians themselves hold just as much of the responsibility and accountability for the Ukrainian success. When Russia very publicly, boldly, and confidently unleashed the bulk of its best trained troops that held a massive numerical advantage, nobody expected Ukraine to survive. What the world actually witnessed was an unbelievably inept and incompetent force routinely humiliated fighting against not only the poorest European nation.....but also one it shares a border with.
I can promise it wont only be Russia trying to take advantage of the power vacuum created by the US militaries absenteeism.
Which nation do you think will step up and lead NATO seeing just how many different countries with such vast differences in priority between them? How many will be willing to surrender control of its military forces to what might seem like some other nations problems?. You think the French will let the British decide their troops fate, or will 30 different nations all make their own plans separately to fight? The difference between having a distinctive Superpower with abilities nobody else possesses....in contrast to the disparity of assets and capabilities of the 2nd most powerful NATO member.....or the next 10 member states combined is HUGE. Are the defences lost split or just make those closest to danger completely obligated to cover the significant amount of missing everything?
I know which writer you're talking about, I'm just sharing my perspective from the experience during my DOD service for 20 years, most of it wartime, and the many eye opening opportunities when training with different NATO forces that depend heavily on US assets.

The best way is a joint cooperation between Sweden, Germany and the US to build The Next Generation Fighter Jets.

Germany should also do the same thing but there are sanctions still in place that will not allow it to develop fighter aircraft such as certain parts of aeroengines. Instead of being slaves of the French, British or Americans, they can make their own jets.

Such drivel, the costs of these projects are best shared but the French usually insist on leading the project. As your recent experience with the Tejas has shown, it's both faster & cheaper to team with international partners for subsystem and component development. So this jingoistic twaddle about national pride projects is mostly for domestic political consumption. Another example would be the "BRAHMOS" missile, if it was truly 100% indigenous then it would still be on the ground. Another example would be the Indian aircraft carrier, etc. etc. etc.

I think you will be surprised by the Swedes ability to to great things on a budget when it comes to aviation, its no different than the previous fighter jets that came before the Gripen (J29, A32, J35 and JA37). Saab was chosen as partners in the T-7 Red hawk program as they know how to make the most out of any budget.
