The erm actshually squadron
Having served with the Swedish Navy for a year, this is my points from this video:
1. Air defense was intended from the start but was cut due to costs.
2. The helicopter-deck with the helicopter on defeats the whole purpose of the ship, being stealth. Only when the chopper is gone and the transmitter is removed, the ship is stealth.
3. The stealth-capabilities are far from 100% altho much better then most conventional ships. More modern radar will have easier time picking up the signature.
4. Reloading the ship missiles requires the ship to enter a dock, and the process itself is very cumbersome as the missile launchers are integrated into the structure itself.
5. The cost for this type of ship is very high, one could debate whether or not it would be better to upgrade several of the existing older models instead of constructing new ones. For Sweden, i would argue quantity is more important.
6. 3:00 The bridge is truly amazing with a 360 degree angle of view, something which lacked on the older models (usually they had about 270 degree view angle)
7. 3:51 The CIC was highly classified while i was serving. It was strictly forbidden to take photos and visiting relatives were not allowed inside. And i served on a warship constructed in 1985 (HMS Stockholm). With that in mind i find it boggling that everyone on UA-cam gets a first hand sightseeing of the technology used aboard the most modern ship in the Swedish Navy.
8. 5:50 The kitchen is the most important place on the whole ship.
2. Yes, that is why they don't have a helicopter as standard, but it's more so that one can land there if needed. The deck is not really designed for holding a helicopter permanently either and when one was sent abroad with a helicopter along it had to be modified to make the helicopter more safe.
It's pretty insane they cut the air defense due to cost! Debatably air defense is even more important than the anti-ship missles if they still have torpedos... I mean not even a CIWS?!? 🤯
@@HealTheWorldasapThe 57 mm gun is quite good at air defence, it is a development of the 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun used during WW2. Also, combining stealth and air defence is a challenge since you can detect a ship sending out radar signals with passive sensors at a much greater distance than you can detect another ship with radar.
From a cost perspective they were not that bad, just a little more expansive than the finnish Hamina class missile boats.
Point 2 doesn't matter. You would not have helicopter on this vessel when operating normally. I mean with any vessel of this size, helicopters are on there just when it's needed.
@@HealTheWorldasapair defense missiles will be added in the mid-life upgrade planned for the next couple of years.

Those are sweet ships, with state of the art equippment... i would feel right at home in the CIC
Visby class is a absolut marvle of modern engineering and automation. Basically two people handle the machines and equipment. And the other 30 od people man the computers. As a result it have a fairly small crew and the crew quarters can be really nice and the ship can still be fairly small.
for a combat ship, it doesn't have much weaponry... so if you call that coffeemaker state of the art equipment and feel envy, man oh man, I wonder if you ever served on a real warship, any combat vessel has those weapons, whatever it's job, it lacks firepower and so is nothing to be jealous for
stealth on ships is overrated, there is a reason the US abandoned the idea after 3 proto types, still Zumwalt has it's uses as a platform to test new tech, eventually they'll be putting it full of missile tubes, even long range hypersonic ones, and that's a failed project ! but is still better and has more potential then this toy
However, the US Navy is no longer able to maintain its own warships. Can they maintain their fleet in this state?@@Vanyali

Sweden is installing CAMM(Sea cepter) on the Visby, starting in 2025. 9 cells carrying 4 missiles each so 36 SAMs per ship, range is 25 km
About time...
Good, I was going to say a nice looking, stealthy hull and great electronics but is underarmed; needs two more ASM’s per side and some SAM’s, which it sounds like they’re getting.
@@nickbeckwith6211
The current Visby class is getting modernised and SAM.
On top of that Sweden has ordered 2 brand new ships ( work name Visby 2,0 ) that are going to be bigger and more heavy armed so they can be more efficient in offshore waters. Even if they say it’s a brand new corvette most naval people say it’s actually a Frigate.
So the “old” Visby will still be a costal ghost with SAMs doing what it’s designed to do, namely hide in the Swedish archipelago ( 200 000 ) islands.

@@goodshipkaraboudjan Visby class is truly streamlined for the shallow Baltic sea with its layers of layers of water making sonar detection very difficult. Visby's sonar equipment and torpedoes, the stealth, the size are all made for that specific environment.
@@MrFalut "Abandoning" is a word seeking for drama. The Visby class is still evolving into gen 6, still needed. But the Russian aggression shows that we need to supplement with larger ships (75 -> 100m) more focused on AA, even though Visby gen 6 will be equipped with Sea Ceptor and CAMM, and since earlier with Bofors 57 mm cannon with 3P ammunition, efficient and effective.
Many superpowers but their faith in large frigates and cruisers and massive submarines and I understand it. They are meant for warfare in large oceans.
But scandinavia and Finland's coasts are riddled with small islands and relatively shallow waters. That makes use of such large vessels negligible. Whereas these kind of corvets can easily overwhelm them when closing in.
Oh thanks, mate! I'll use that info next time i play War Thunder, where that logic belongs 😂😂

@@TheLifeOfKane Littoral waters need ships that can operate there, considering the shallow straits and some 30,000 islands in Stockholm archipelago for instance

All old models for naval warfare have been basically scrapped due to advances in loitering munitions, networked sensors and latest generation missiles. This just stupid waste of money.

CIC is massive for a corvette...woa! US Navy take a look at how a littorial combat ship has to look like.
It is supposed to be a hit-and-run ship. I served with the swedish navy, but not on this ship.

Here's a warship the Philippines ought to consider investing into their navy. My recommendation is six of these stealth warships.
Visby class lacks size and range that the Philippine Navy disires.
Look at Philippine Navy's new corvette class, it's bigger than their own and neighbours' frigates.
I would then rather concider the new Luleå-class Corvette from Sweden. Its based off of these ships, but bigger and more modern. Visby-class is about 20 years old now (though tech inside has been upgraded).
Swedish Navy, shows their high-tech ships are capable off and they got nothing to hide 😉

It is indeed so. Sweden and US had a cooperation back in the 90s. Which resulted eventually in the Visby Class Corvette, but US later on decided to follow thru aswell and thats why the Zumwalt class exists.

Yeah, both Nam and the Philippines could use the bigger version of this one to sneak up on Chinese intruders and chase them away.
Looks nice and stealthy too. Surprised no phalanx type weaponry in such a seemingly close support vessel.
The main gun doubles as close in defense.
Less rate of fire, but can fire air-burst ammo.
It’s not meant for close support. It is meant to lie in wait close to shore to ambush Soviet landing ships. It can also do mine hunting and mine laying.
@@Rbajter Yes, it got long range antiship missiles.
the corvette is a small ship type, and one would think that it would be equipped with a rather limited range of equipment, but it seems that this warship is designed to act in a rather multifaceted manner, with anti-ship guided missiles, torpedoes, flight decks, etc. It is quite different from the Taiwanese Navy's Tuo Chiang-class corvettes, which are also stealth corvettes but specialize in anti-ship combat.

Showed us most of the ship and how it's organized skillfully .... but am still wondering why the trail of steam out of the back end?
Would be easy to mask that, so makes me wonder if it's part of it's stealth camouflage?
Maybe the reason for that are the exhaust pipes of the gas turbines (the propulsion system consists of 2 diesel engines and 4 gas turbines).
And if the exhaust pipes are underwater, to decrease the IR signature, the hot gases heat the water and create a small steam trail.
But that's an assumption, of course.
it is intentional. They dissipate the exhaust gases into the wake of the ship. That creates this "cloud" but it massively reduces the heat-signature of the ship making it stealthier in terms of IR-tracking
@MrSchwabentier Not only that, but they also inject seawater into the exhaust system to cool the exhaust. The divinyl core carbon fibre sandvich construction also help reducing the heat signature, and make the vessel hull non-magnetic.
Fascinating... tbh I love Stealth Ships like Visby-class Corvette that I know now

curious about the powertrain
CODOG (Combined Diesel OR Gas Turbine) arrangement, two MTU 16V 2000 N90 diesels for low speed and four Vericor TF-50 gas turbines for high speed. Two reduction gears, two turbines and one diesel if connected to each.
The reduction gears is then connected to two water jets from KaMeWa.
Total power using diesels is around 2,6MW. Using gas turbines it's about 16MW.
Very cool ship . But it appears that is is missing point self defense cannons for close in defense . But there probly just hidden .
The 57mm does that. In addition the will be installed with CAMM in a year or two.
Like the other person said, 57 mm can defend somewhat against that. However, this vessel in war time probably aint traveling alone. They probably have a swedish diesel submarine close to its location for defense against other vessels.
