I have to say a big thank you! Just bought the exact same product that you recommended and I can confirm that it works both on a PC & an iMac, which is running Big Sur Version 11.1. Funnily enough we haver the model before yours: SONY HandyCam Vision CCD-TRV27E. I have been wanting to convert my father's old handycam tapes to a more accessible format for the longest time but was put off by the lengthy & complex process explained by most. So thank you for the straighforward recommendation - it works!
Can you please tell me what the AV cable you have is called? I have the same handycam but i lost the rca cable now i dont know what to get since they all have 3 heads instead of two. And they all seem to have "audio" in their name but not "video|"
Hi Chris Thanks for the video,I have an old Sony CCD F455e from the late 80's (I think) I have about 8 old Video8 tapes of family memories I wanted to get on computer,so I bought the same converter you are using, unfortunately when I powered up my old camcorder it would not work,a nasty smell from the camcorder, capacitors probably. So I bought a Sony DCR TRV110e Digital8 off Ebay, this model plays Video8,Hi8 and Digital 8 .I was not very successful in using the capture software as it it kept giving me a copyright protected messaage on certain tapes. After a bit of investigation I decided to use the firewire 1394 connection to transfer tapes, luckily I had an old Toshiba laptop that had a firewire socket,I have found this method really good and easy and no loss of quality of picture, you can actually control the camcorder using this method, although using the best quality transfer does use up a lot of space, fortunately I have a 1TB USB plug in hard drive,so I am copying to laptop then transfering to USB hard drive. Enjoy your videos very much Thanks, Alan
Great to hear you got it working, Alan. We have no connection to the software we purchased and can’t really answer many questions about it. It worked well for us and hopefully for some others watching the video.
hi, iv got a sony camcorder similar to yours and I have bought the same device you have to to convert the footage on my camera there are 3 ports 1 labeled 'S VIDEO OUT' another labeled 'A/V OUT' and one called 'RFU DC OUT' in the second port the cables can fit but in the other it doesn't fit also in ur video you had a black cable but mine didn't come with a black cable if u could get back to me that would be amazing 👍!

Not sure if you can help. I have the exact same camcorder and exact same grabber. Installed software from cd and looks different to yours, but all I get is a grey screen. All software and hardware says working fine. The company I got it from sent me another device but same grey screen. Is on a Windows 7 pc but think this is ok. Any help or ideas please?
man can I ask you to capture the fast forward mode with no footage on screen? I need that little genuine "FFWD" sign in the corner - can't find it anywhere, would be so thankful if you can help! thank you!
@@feelingretro5154 hi and thanks for your answer! yeah I've found some kind of modern designed vhs pictograms on the web but the look sooo bad and artificial, I really need that genuine one but have no camcorder and capture tool so I'm asking if someone can capture it for me of their cam:) the reason I need it is not to use it like overlay above other footage but like a little 3 sec logo before videos so the authenticity really matters
Hi, i did exactly the same as you but picture quality on the computer is not that good, on the handycam it is perfect. What could ge the problem? Greets from Belghium.
Help me out please! I have the exact same video camera. I bought a similar product (EasyCap) on amazon. When I start to play the tape, the video output on the laptop screen was only covering 1/4th the actual video size. The rest was just white noise. I replaced the converter with another one, and the issue was different. The output on the laptop screen goes from colour to Black & White in just a few seconds, and it only record in B&W from then on. I have tried messing with the PAL/NTSC settings but to no avail.

@@feelingretro5154 I found the problem. If your VHS is not in near perfect condition, those cheap 20 dollar capture devices are to weak to deal with it. I know this because I played the same VHS tape through the digital by pass on my Sony Hi8 video camera and IT DIDNT MISS A SINGLE FRAME FOR THE ENTIRE 2 HOUR VIDEO.
Wow thanks so much! I have been looking for an easy tutorial. This was the best
