This makes my Ironman look like a fun parkrun with friends.
This reminds me of the time I ran through the snow to the video store with movies that had to be returned that night, only to find out they had a drop box and I didn't really need to race.
But you made it the happiest, fullest drop box that night, never forget, especially not 3 years on from writing it!

+RedRavick It's an Iron Distance race, but they had to shorten the swim due to the cold temps. So it ended up being 1.2 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run.

+Austin Pierce It was 10C or 50.6F. Pretty darn cold. That was out where we started, near shore where the inflow comes in it was a wee bit colder, maybe 9 or so.

Great footage. brought back some happy and sad memories seeing for first time footage of my wife with her training partner and friend at 1:02 having just missed black t shirt cut off. She was 162. amazing event, people and country. Thanks for the memories

Yes some crazy triathletes but it is an incredible event that should be on every triathletes bucket list.

Hi there! The race is tough, but the film is beautiful!!! Showing athlete faces and their basic feelings... the music in the end helps to transcend the event, there will be another one next year, but the people... who are they? Beautiful men and women who live their best, not as athletes, but as being themselves. Peoples that are carrying on the human roots, pioneers...

The year videos from 2016 to 2009 are the best. Please don't make them black and white again. They are special enough already, less is more sometimes. This video is one of the best ✨🏆✨ The emotions, the focus, the endurance of these people, the landscapes, the music, those feelings when they climb the last steps, this is really what's about, the best human experience on Earth

I did a half in cold water, about 61 degrees, and it may have been the hardest thing I've ever done. You can't appreciate how cold this water is until you actually get in it.
+Daniel Jones You did a half swim marathon or half ironman? I did a 3k swim in 14C (59 F) and it literally took my breath away. Took several minutes before I could exhale in the water even. But I think the Norseman can be as cold at 11C (51F). I can't imagine.

Hats off to these guys. I can do most anything but cold. I get cold and I'm done. (I'm 59 so my feet tend to not warm back up, even with strenuous activity. I just have to go soak them in hot water.)

Was always doing 10k now that I have heel spur and plantar fasciitis in both legs can’t do anything I literally cried when all those people finished the race I know that feeling
Between 1989 and 2001, I did ca. 70 olympic triathlons, and during the last years - just for fun, and to hook up with "old" friends - also 7 IM and some more ultra runs. During this "career", I never understood the concept of "tough". Triathlon is not tough. If you're tough, you bear something, but in triathlon, you perform. Rain, weather and wind is part of sailing. Sailing is tough, but you don't perform in sailing, because you're occupied with bearing things. So, as more the stress is on "tough", and as less the stress is on "perform", a "tough" triathlon becomes un-triahlonlike. Of course, you can always make a triathlon tougher, but that's not what triathlon is about, because it's an (athletic) performing sport. It's the same thing with 100 m, where you're perfoming, not being tough. Think of Usain Bolt, who is telling you how fast he runs 100 m, and you are answering; "Yeah, but I ran the first 30 m in mud, the second 30 m through icy water, the third 30 m uphill, and the remaining 10 m backwards. That's tough!" Yes, it's tough, but it's not athletic. Savvy? That's also why no world class athlete ever participated @ the Norseman. But hey, people here in Norway really looove to show off with it/toughness/uphill-running ecc. And: @ a triathlon, everybody competes together with others, without help and against the clock, while @ the Norseman, each one starts for himself, with a team (!) and the against the cicumstances.
triathletes intimidate the fuck out of me. i am a pure climber, a roadie. TT's are fine, but what you people do is spectacular, hats off !!

So there was a cutoff time in order to climb the mountain stage? If that is correct I dont agree with that at all. Should be based on if you can just finish the event in my opnion.
+SirLongshank64 they can still finish but they have to take a different path. The elevator going down the mountain has limited space so they can only allow 160 athletes up to the top.
+SirLongshank64 This is for safety reasons. This is an extreme race and in all parts of our work, safety comes first.

+ironmankmf I was referring to triathlon in general but, I agree, not a single person on that course is "slow."
