    As a conservative/"soft libertarian", I'd like nothing more than support for firearms ownership to become a broadly bipartisan issue, and because of that, it warms my heart to see a passionate gun-owner of any political stripe - but especially so when that gun-owner is from parties and places that are typically more anti-gun.
    After all, the widespread "normalization" of responsible firearms ownership should be one of the most important long-term goals of the firearms community, and "lefties" who are passionate 2nd Amendment supporters can be - and are - pioneers, trailblazers, and emissaries of those efforts.
    That said, I'm more than happy to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with anyone of any political persuasion who is willing to passionately defend the 2nd Amendment rights for all law-abiding citizens, 'cause I'm happy to do the same.

    • @RavemastaJ
      @RavemastaJ 4 роки тому +16

      I for one take a different opinion. I can’t trust leftist gun owners when they vilify Kyle Rittenhouse for breaking gun laws, and then they are deafeningly silent about the felon with a handgun that he shot. It just tells me they don’t believe in firearm rights and what they represent - they just want the opportunity to kill me so they can “progress” and get back to banning firearms. Felons shouldn’t own guns for the same reason they can’t vote - they are opposed to your society. When leftists are actively burning down businesses while they buy guns, it tells me they aren’t buying guns for tradition or any belief in rights. They are doing it for power. So no. I don’t accept that leftists can own guns until they stop burning flags and being against the society we both live in.

    • @LachNetSoDumm
      @LachNetSoDumm 4 роки тому +34

      @@RavemastaJ burning a flag is one of the most basic things covered by the 1st amendment. if you consider burning a piece of cloth being against your society, let go of symbols and don't try to deny others their rights simply for disagreeing with what your symbol stands for. and you may say "love it or leave it" but with that logic, you'd still be a british colony or at the very least a slave-owning society governed by rich oligarchs (and only one of those things really changed, no points for guessing which)
      but to get back on point: how exactly are progressives/leftists opposed to your society?

    • @RavemastaJ
      @RavemastaJ 4 роки тому +9

      PDelaResha I didn’t say he didn’t. Again, the silence against felons burning buildings and carrying guns is deafening.

    • @RavemastaJ
      @RavemastaJ 4 роки тому +8

      Luca
      How are leftists opposed to my society? By burning buildings, looting, and committing street justice. There’s a process to things. When the tea was dumped in that harbor long ago, only one lock was broken, and it was replaced. The only people getting tarred and feathered were representatives of the King. It would’ve been a failed revolution if they did the same things “protesters” do today. And the current protests SHOULD fail. They are not representative of the country - they might as well be secessionists. I would prefer it if they just said that and did it.

    • @giantsquid9235

      @@RavemastaJ except the guy who was volunteering as a medic that had the handgun was not a felon. This has been corrected by multiple need agencies. The worst thing in his record was possession of a weapon while intoxicated, which obviously is stupid but is a misdemeanor crime is Wisconsin. He has no felonies and is legally allowed to possess firearms

But not a lot got into those vents on the side and rear. When it’s not in use and actively sucking in air, it’s a pretty closed-up system that doesn’t let a lot of little pebbles and things into it. I'd say yellows and blues would be more visible to colorblind users, but each person's colorblindness is different. Personally, I can see reds mostly fine, but greens are where it tends to get really screwy. Best possible solution would be to have sights where the reticle color is infinitely tuneable through a computer, but I have no idea what the technological limitations of those would be. In any case, if you've got the money, you can grab a pair of Enchroma glasses or something like that.

    For anyone looking to do a CA compliant WWSD with the official parts, Juggernaut Tactical makes an AR compliant kit that will drop in with no modification. The hard part would be finding someone out of state to install the kit, then have it shipped in. Bolt hold open ends up getting deleted, but that is the only kit I know of that works without having to modify the lower.
    The comments on "liberal" gun ownership are on point. I'm interested if there will be any shift in tolerance over then next few years though. In California I don't have a friend that hasn't had someone who was previously a "guns are the root of all evil and having one in the house is unimaginable" type come to them for recommendations and advise on what gun to buy and how to go about training. 2020 has been a weird year and I'm sure I don't need to say that.

    Where I think a lot of people have issues with precision rifles is finding loads for their rifle specifically. For a frame of reference with what's possible when you find a load, I have a Remington 740 30-06 from '58 and a lot of people will tell your they're inaccurate. I found the load it likes and it is a goofy load most people won't come across naturally but with a 125 grain I can shoot 3/4" groups all day with it, and it runs reliably. Two of the exact same gun in the exact same chambering can shoot differently with the exact same ammo. At the end of the day tailoring your load to your rifle is more important than brand of rifle. Optics also play a big role in how accurately you can shoot. They don't have any impact on mechanical accuracy but they're important for a shooter. There's a reason there's an adage in western hunting that goes something like "if you have $1000 to spend on a setup buy a $100 rifle and a $900 scope"

Anyway, another great Q&A, always look forward to listening to these while i sit back and relax, and like the, in my opinion at least, level headedness you bring to these discussions.

    It is unfortunate (but not entirely unexpected) that I see so many comments & responses to those comments on this video completely miss what Karl said about being part of the firearms community, resistance from the community itself if you aren't a "typical" member, and how we can attempt to overcome that resistance.
    It should not matter that I think a cloud looks like a giraffe if you think that same cloud looks more like a flamingo. We both should understand and admit, fully and in earnest, that our right to defend ourselves applies to us all regardless of the shape of our clouds. To say it doesn't/shouldn't means you do not understand the importance of that right.
    To Karl: I appreciate that you do not dip into politics without reason, and I appreciate even more that you're a shining bastion of sanity and humanity in what is often a cesspit of firearms channels. Sincerely, thank you.

    In regards to the edc knife in relation to the shivworks class I think it is relevant to note that carrying a knife (in general a small fixed blade ~2.75"-3.75") is a way to provide weapon retention and is a secondary lethal option when you're being smothered such as in the ecqc class environment.
    With the caveat that you need proper training with a knife. I have done martial arts seriously for 15 years. Striking, grappling, and a knife centered practice (Libre fighting). All of it doesn't matter if you never stress test it and you don't know your limitations and trade offs.
    Also remember your training artificialities. I tend to train in a lit room with comfy pants. Every so often my training partner and I put on our regular clothes and workout with minimal light and we make sure that everything we conceal is actually hidden.
    The biggest artificiality in ecqc is that everyone gets to look at your setup through the day and they obviously know that you're carrying through the altercation evolution so they immediately go to snatch your stuff and use it on you.

    On the precision rifle question, i've seen a lot of people like the Howa APC rifles that are being offered in the US. A lot of more serious shooters like to run the Howa 1500 action in an MDT ESS chassis. Downside with the Howa is that you will need a new bottom metal to take AICS magazines, and you will have to modify AICS magazines to fit in the Howa 1500 action.
    I just picked up the Howa APC in 6.5 CM so i havent shot it yet, but what ruled out the Ruger precision rifle for me was the difficulty with lifting the bolt when it had to cock the firing pin. The RPR uses the same bolt as the Ruger American series of rifles and no amount of polishing the bolt cams on my Ruger American smoothed that out. The Howa instead has a farther bolt throw to open the action and cock the firing pin, while making it much easier to cock. Between the two actions, i much prefer the Howa.
    That said, Ruger does have a big advantage of being local (For US customers) so working with customer service is much easier. This helps you do strange things like call them up and request an AICS magwell for your rifle that has an AR magwell...

    That was a great response to William H's question! While I'm a largely conservative sort of person, I think that the protection and advancement of our 2A rights is critically dependent upon our ability to welcome, encourage, and respect absolutely everyone who is interested in their rights. If liberals, conservatives, and the other political orientations could be largely unified behind 2A rights, then these random and looming threats would disappear, and the regular WWSD2020 rifle could be had in California. My Patreon support of the channel is an insanely high value for money.

    Interesting take on a defensive knife I think a lot of people forget a weapon can be taken from you. Personally I do carry a folding knife easily accessible but it’s entirely because I use it for work about every 10-15 minutes. I used to be kind of obsessed with the idea of a ccw knife to back up my handgun but your thoughts on it definitely add to the reasons I already have not to at least on a regular basis.

      I think there is a good possibility to escalate with a knife, it's safer to be beaten and get to go to a hospital than you pull out a knife and they respond with the intent to kill. If you were to be in a place to have to worry I'd go with cut resistant sleeves under your shirt before carrying a knife.

    Fun fact about single tube/monocular-type NODs such as the PVS-14: You can use them with red dot optics, I.E. the Aimpoint M2/M68, independent of the weapon.
    If you focus your eyes juuuussst right, you'll have a red dot superimposed over your night vision view. For me, the dot was slightly left of zero (I'm right eye dominant, PVS-14's were over my left eye.) but it probably wasn't anything that couldn't be solved with a bit of Kentucky windage, especially at typical night vision ranges.
    Figured that one out one night while pulling security on a training exercise. Kinda a moot point since I also had a PEQ-15 with an IR laser mounted on my weapon, but hey, the more you know. (stars go here)

    I'm red/green colour blind and I haven't had a particular problem with red dots since they're fairly monochromatic... I tend to have more of an issue seeing certain coloured targets against murky/low contrast backdrops, especially things like small yellow painted targets against grass where there are patches of sunlight... the coating on (cheapo) red dots might not be helping with that.

    Hey Karl,
    I was just watching Ian's video on that electronically fired remmington and I thought of a question.
    Do you know of any experiments with light or lazer ignited ammunition?
    Could this be used in the development of caseless ammo?
    I would Imagine that a strong enough lazer diode would be able to keep burning through any fouling that might develop on the lense. Perhapse it would interfere with night vision systems?
    Curious to hear your thoughts, thanks.

    34:56 - well put Carl. For the questioner, I would say to stop worrying about everyone else's thoughts and opinions on your political leanings (and while you're at it, stop broadcasting them to others). Most people are so committed to their beliefs (particularly those who immediately think less of you/insult you because yours are different) that no amount of common-sense conversation can change them. Understand that once someone says something out loud, they will very rarely ever take it back/deviate from it. Most (I said most, not all) people are cowards who's frail egos won't allow them to admit they are wrong.
