- Finding the most fascinating mountain range in Arizona with the best group of overlanders I know. The Chiricahua mountain range has long been my favorite mountain camping here in Arizona. Join along to see how these mountains are so wildly beautiful and under appreciated in this state. Overlanding the Chiricahuas has long been my favorite activity in my truck.
I worked for the Forest Service and firefighter back in the day and was stationed at Rustlers Park. It was the best time of my life clearing trails and fighting fires off the Crest Trail from Rucker to Portal.
Can't wait to start my journey into overlanding! hopefully I find a group like yours here in AZ! happy trails!
You too brother thank you!
Another great video son. What a wonderful experience. You are getting to be a pro at this.
I wouldn’t say pro but I appreciate it ❤️
I love how this video came together!
I made the trip to Rucker canyon on my Honda shadow then on through the mountains to Portal and cave Creek canyon.awsome trip on two wheels 😎
Such great terrain down there, enjoyed the video!
Love the area, it sure goes under the radar!
Wilcox is a cool little place i got to a lot of the area. Jonny Ringo's grave site
Wow!! Incredible scenery!
Just awesome 👍
Love the video! Greetings from a Douglas native living in Phoenix. The Chiricahuas are BEAUTIFUL. Thank you so much for the wonderful video. Keep posting more about SE Arizona. Kudos.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel! As soon as the temps cool down I’ll be out in the south east!
I was just hiking Silver Peak yesterday and found out how beautiful the Chiricahuas are. Totally worthy of the national park status. Hopefully, congress gets the bill through.
It’s a wonderful area indeed. I’m truthfully hoping it doesn’t pass. The area is pretty untraveled now which is great but you’ll have all the folks coming in to cross it off their NP list…
Thanks for sharing. I'll be out there in about 2 months!!!!!
This video turned out sweet excited to see more 🙌
I mean you ask me that Toyota Tacoma with the rear rack was kinda wack lol
Tks enjoyed your adventure- liked your mountains- will add to my list- I’m wheeling in a Tundra too
Thanks for watching!
Been camping at that same site for decades. Love those mountains
Love it out there, my favorite spot in that whole range
Hey Cody, It was good to meet you and Matt, on my way back to Colorado now, hope to make it back down soon, I really enjoyed the area, later Brother
Glad you found my channel! Good to share conversation with you out there, hope to see you back in Az soon
The Chiricahuas are one of my favorite ranges in our whole state; along with the Huachucas, near Sierra Vista. The sky islands are really something special. You got some great footage on this trip!
The sky islands are incredible!
Great video just found you. Looks like big log woods same as in the north where I’m from I really like that it’s not that crowded there. We up here in the northern part by Winslow have a lot of people in the woods but great looking country down there. I didn’t realize it was so massive thanks
Great content, this part of Arizona is not traveled as much as northern az. Beautiful scenery. Thx for sharing
Much appreciated. Southern Az sky islands certainly are under appreciated!
Good video and overall vibe… love the surrounding landscape
Thank you brother
Great video Cody. Hope all is well. Quality is nice, drone shots are great. Would of like to see the steak when it was done lol. Good shit
Thanks brother, I’ll be certain to show that finished meat shot next time haha!
Nicely done, great to see our State in an Overlanding Video. Have been interested in checking that area out in my 4Runner, but need a crew that knows the area. Tom
Came for for the mountain bikes, please more of that when overlanding 🤙
Funny I was just talking to my other mtb buddy yesterday about doing a riding trip. Been so lazy all winter haven’t been in the saddle!
Amazing trip guys I wish I can join you in one of your adventures .
It was amazing! I’m always looking to go out with new people
Haven't been here yet, will have to put it on the list
It’s an unbeatable mountain that is definitely not popular
We love that spot we camp pretty much in the same area a couple times a year. The fire has really changed the top of the mountain but it's still a really neat place. Hoping to buy some land down around Portal one day.
Oh it’s killer out there, my favorite spot indeed. Portal is prime real estate!
Hey Cody, Great video as always. Please check if your wireless microphone is working. You have a lot of great content to share, but the wind noise and low volume makes it hard to hear and its the case in most of your videos. Thanks for taking us on these epic trips!
Shoot man I know it’s driving me nuts. I bought the rode wireless mic, spent an arm and a leg on it and it has no noise reduction. Fortunately I can work a lot of that out now in post but boy it’s driving me insane!
@@Whitedogoverland Cody, first, thanks for replying to my comment and I appreciate that & that's why your channel is growing brother!!! Yes, those Rode mics aren't cheap and it sucks they are that bad. I appreciate how you highlight the history and beauty of these remote places. Also enjoy your humor and cast of friends. I live in CA and I agree that Arizona is the most beautiful state 9 months out of the year!
Man I love to hear it. My base is really showing support and I gotta show the love in return! (Even if it’s just a simple reply). You can definitely say 9 months of the year is gorgeous, maybe only 7 this year lol.
Have you ever been out on these trails in the winter? I'm curious what the weather does down there in the winter months.
The top of this range is closed during the winter time, too steep of a grade and gets a couple feet of snow at 8k’ in January. It sure is prettt when it’s snow capped
I have not explored this region yet. I want to do so soon.
It’s a hidden gem I must say!
Where exactly is this? Im about 40 minutes from the Chiricahuas, but havent really gotten up in them.
The top road or down in the canyon? Rucker canyon is awesome and you can take turkey creek rd up to the top or drop to the backside of portal
If you guys ever need another tag along lemme know
Sounds good man! I post the expeditions on ig so keep an eye out
Planning an overland trip out there in late January. Will it be too cold to camp? Also what trails do you recommend?
The summit might have some snow but it’s been pretty nice down here. I would certainly check out Rucker canyon, good camping down there as well as at the top of turkey creek road! You’ll have a blast
Good stuff man!! Nice video! . but for the love of God please 🙏 stop making the dog jump from the tent. Coming from someone with a large breed dog as well... TPLO surgery is very expensive and scary. I know from experience. I say this out of nothing but love! Keep up the good work! 🤙🏻
Thanks man I appreciate the words! You’re not kidding about the joint problems, she’s a shell sleeper now. Not often before did I put her up top, just on desperately cold nights. The hip conditions are certainly no joke
@@Whitedogoverland for sure bro. I'm new to your videos, but if you rock a ladder on your tent I usually wrap the ladder in a canvas tarp for my dogs to climb up. I got tired of killing my back carrying them lmao I wish I could keep my camper clean enough to have enough space for mine 😅
How do you break break lines? Is like my worst fear. Are you lifted? Is it stretching the lines?
It’s my own dumbass fault, I never bolted the break line bracket into the spindle. Don’t be an idiot like me and you’ll never have that problem!
my 2nd favorite state is Montana. a completely different experience from Arizona.
One day I will experience it!
If you are going To Do more videos you should introduce your dog he looks so pretty.
Great Video. Been looking for some Overland AZ people. Is this up by Happy Jack?
This is the furthest south eastern range in Az! Tons of us out here, just got to find the fun group!
I am in Surprise. Frequently venture north to Prescott area, Tonto National Forest, Flagg but southern area interests me just need a crew! Tom
@@thomassanio8745 I'm in Sun City and am interested in checking this area too...let's roll man
Hey great video but what happened to your bud with the busted differential...did he go home? Also got a link to the dometic sink?
A few years ago, a ranger on the Portal side told me I couldn't fly my drone...don't really know, just passing it along...🧐
Some of those rangers think they know it all… I just checked my flight map, there’s no restrictions on the east side, minor restrictions to the west for huachuca!
@@Whitedogoverland So, I finally did some of my own legwork. The closest no fly zone is Bisbee airport, that's 40 miles from Portal as the crow flies...and thx again! ☺
Where in the world is this located?! It’s absolutely amazing!
South east corner of Az, it’s an incredible place
@@Whitedogoverland wow that’s beautiful!
Is that Hayden in the dodge
Sure is
Mogollan rim?
Yep!
What? Thats not the Mogollon rim lol. Thats up north from close to Payson to New Mexico. These are the Chiricahuas.
Why are there so many Toyota vehicles, having mechanical failures ?
Rode hard and put up wet! It was my own fault I was breaking lines on this trip. I didn’t bolt the brake line back to the spindle as I should of
@@Whitedogoverland I have a Nissan Titan, just wanted to bug you a bit. Thanks for the video …. been there long ago, as well as the Dos Cabesos range. Thanks
I love jdm vehicles, even though I own two domestics as well. All great and all junk at the same time! Just gotta find which turd appeals to you the most
Maaan I wish I had boys that do this kind of stuff.....all my friends are cities guys only, clubs, bars 😐 oh and strapped down on a leash by their girl smh
A lot of my old buddies do nothing but party and hit bars. I made myself a new friend group who enjoys this stuff as much as I do. Do some networking and find some guys locally who enjoy the same stuff!
Why do you keep breaking brake lines? 🤕
Great video btw!
I was an idiot and didn’t put the brake line bracket back into spindle when I did suspension… problem long solved and lessons learned
@@Whitedogoverland oh dang!! Glad ya figured it out! Just started following you on IG!
What’s your handle??
@@Whitedogoverland outwest_overland
@@r.hawkins3242 thought so great looking rig brother!
Nice video. But nobody brought a chainsaw?
Back then a saw wasn’t a priority nowadays I don’t go anywhere without it
@@Whitedogoverland Nothing like trying to cut a log with an ax to make you want to get a chainsaw!
@coyotech55 an axe every now and then is fun to swing, but I actually had to buy the saw when I stuck my drone in a 75 foot burnt up pine haha
@@Whitedogoverland You use them for so many things! Easier to cut than to climb.
More tag along Top Heavy Tents, no thanks
Right there with ya
Who 'underrates' a mountain?
Do you allow other ethnicities or is it strictly white
Everyone is always welcome!
Courtesy of ARIZONA 4RUNNER MAFIA, please stop recording and posting all out offroad tails to the public. AZ native born and raised residents only.
Likewise, been here my whole life. That’s why I enjoy sharing!
Yeah, free world. Go wherever the wind takes us
Courtesy of Matt Hastings the chiricahuas are part of a national forest. Anyone can Google places to camp in Southern AZ and the Chiricahuas come right up. The Chiricahuas aren't some secret sport.
Ugh.. I hate gatekeepers. Do you see how desolate and hopeless towns like Holbrook, Willcox, etc are? Tourism can fix it.
Look at all the Southern Utah towns.. they’re great at promoting tourism and using it to their advantage.
