Years ago PBS presented a wonderful series on Art in America with Robert Hughes as the commenter. I think he may have produced it. Not that long after it the Guggenheim had a pretty comprehensive exhibit of Rockwell’s art including almost all his Saturday Evening Post cover illustrations. It was a big deal because the movers and shakers in the museum world were pretty condescending toward Rockwell.
It would have been great If you could talk later about those Murder Mysteries you took a chance on at the Brattle. Thanks for P.D.James the name was familiar but I had never been tempted to look for her books before.
I adore you that cover - the omnibus.... E Philips Oppenheim is unknown to me. Have you read any Marguerite Steen? I’ve read two of her huge novels about the Flood family and their involvement with the slave trade of Bristol and what follows. I’m going to read the third one next month as it’s a mammoth. Shogun is there, as are a couple of other possibilities. I might make a start now. Do you have a commonplace book? Do you have a digital one or a handwritten book? I feel I’m too old to do one but maybe not. Hugs for Frieda x
So many interesting books! I just checked Amazon with the intention of buying A vision of light and it says it’s a trilogy. Have you read the other two books as well? Are they also great?
I would like to do 2 maybe 3 books for March Mystery Madness. I just realized that’s next week 😱. Anyone have personal recommendations that I can peruse this weekend at my used bookstores?
Hello Steve. You will never see Barnes & Noble sticking carts outside their doors with books on them. I doubt that Barnes & Noble will ever put books outside on carts for people to browse through. I ordered some books on Amazon.
I'm just wishing that I had a Brattle near me. AHH the wishes we have.
Great haul! A vision of light sounds great! It is now on my tbr I hope to read it one day .
I was so impressed by the Robert Hughes passage you read, I've just found and purchased that book ! Thankyou for highlighting it.
A beautiful cover on A Vision of Light!
Great haul. Just ordered a few of them including the hard cover of vision of Light. thank you!!!!
Donoghue on Hughes on Rockwell was spellbinding.
Love the literal omnibus.
Also, I'm going to look for A Vision of Light, it sounds like it'll be worth the search!
nice one Steve. great to hear you
I’m used to Scott Bradfield in the bathtub, does Steve reply to comments? Maybe too busy reading?
