  • Writer-directors Alfonso Cuarón (Roma, Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Gaspar Noé (Enter the Void, Love, Irreversible) talk about Cuarón's 3D sci-fi masterpiece, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
In Gravity Sandra Bullock plays scientist Dr Ryan Stone, who finds herself trapped above the Earth when the debris from a destroyed satellite, travelling at the speed of a bullet, tears apart her spacecraft. Using all her wits, Stone tries to figure out a way to get home before the orbiting debris returns.
Employing state-of-the-art visual effects and digital 3D technology, Alfonso Cuáron creates a white-knuckle-ride of a film that is also breathtakingly beautiful and questions our place within the vast expanse of the universe.
Originally premiering in the UK at the 2013 LondonFilm Festival, where it received a rapturous reception, we were delighted to welcome Alfonso Cuáron's sci-fi masterpiece to the UK's largest screen for our Sci-fIMAX season.

I love that Gaspar embraces CGI as a means to make movies more cinematic. Some directors are snobs and think if it's not practical effects done on 35 or 70mm, it's not cinematic. Gaspar doesn't care how it's made as long as it's powerful and exuberant filmmaking 🔥🎞️❤️‍🔥

I have such a clear memory of watching Gravity in the theatre the weekend it came out and having such a feeling of happiness. I was so fucking happy watching it, I couldn't stop smiling. I was happy for Cuaron because he had created that magic that people always talk about movies being.

Thank you, BFI. I'm actually more impressed that Noe has seen Gravity cos he doesn't consume Hollywood movies at all. 😂 I almost wish this conversation had been over Children of Men instead, but I'll take what I can get.

I was genuinely touched by Noe's story of how Cuaron's silly movie helped him to some degree during a terrifying time in his life.

Mexico is only considered to be in the continent of north america and not regionally south america because the Union fought a war to take Texas and Mexico was considered north American with Texas included and since it was taken Mexico is still considered north American. If Gravity had been dialogue-free it'd have been a masterpiece. For me personally, The script and, most of all Clooney's constant wisecracking, really does hinder the experience. Shame.

Well, one central and one southern. And since Argentina and Mexico both have French ancestry, they could be very distant cousins. Cuarón is Celtic Spanish, so he is specifically Spanish even though raised in Mexico. Noe' is specifically French (his name means 'Noah' in French specifically), hence why he loves France and French so much, even though he was born in Argentina. Only Brazil, Colombia, and Peru are proud to be from the country they are from typically. Peru is the only country besides Brasil proud of their native heritage. Else, like most poor people in the (US) states or from any country, everyone wants to leave because their country is economically broken either by corruption or extreme lack of economical knowledge from politicians how to properly run a country. But since the Americas are dominately not Islamic, and besides crime, the Americas south are normally the most friendly places on earth besides a lot of Asian countries.

@@nickolaskerria2963 Cuarón was born and raised in Mexico, so he's Mexican. Ascendency has no place in this discussion. It's like saying "I'm specifically Italian even though I was raised in Mexico" because of my last name is from Italy. And btw, Mexico is located in North America, not Central America.

    • @nickolaskerria2963

so those born in South Africa are authentic African? It is opinion and fair, yes.
Did you ask him or you are just assuming because of the internet? Have an original thought for once in your life and stop assuming people are different just because they are from a different place. Mexico was colonialized by the Spanish and they still have an authentic native community but they are racially discriminated against and not allowed into most of society. But keep being ignorant, I'm sure living in the darkness of stupidity and never seeing the light of truth because you are got talented enough to avoid anything real in your life, well, it must be really easy being you and never having to work to know anything.
@@foglias a place doesn't make a man, a man makes a place. If Noe identifies himself as French then he is French because why not, his name is French, he speaks French, he has got Frankish ancestry, he would say he is French Argentinian, French born in Argentina living the rest of his life out as himself in France. Saying one is Spanish is irrelevant because Spanish DNA is all over the world. Was it by consent? Probably not. Was it by colonialization? Si'.

Well, they are directors. They don’t have to understand a lot of that technical stuff. They just need the vision. He just bullshits his way into getting the financing by saying the vision is possible and hires people who can actually do it. Bullshitting is literally a talent every director needs if they want to survive. Refn talks about that too.
