One of my worst mistakes in life is getting in one of those Maximas for a road trip with a girl I worked with at an arcade. If you drive one of those, you’re bound to end up with a story whether it’s because of the engine blown out or the stoner behind the wheel. Great story Rob
@port nut they are if well maintained. But buying a used Altima or a maxima with 80k+ miles… you already know it’s gonna have some issues from whoever owned it before you
Man we had a Maxima when I was a kid in Sweden, my dad traded it for a Citroen XM and that was the comfiest car ever, we kept it for 10 years even though it was a nightmare with electrical gremlins. The fun thing about the Maxima is that the biggest engine was the least thirsty, the lower bhp models just had to work too much for that heavy car. Really rare as manual as well, always automatics in sweden.
Something similar happened to my brother. He sold a black 84 IROC to a guy who paid him cash and claimed to be a commercial fisherman. Few months later he got a call from the Seattle PD asking if his iroc was stolen. They had gotten into a car chase with this guy that turned out to be a drug dealer. Guy got away but the cops had the iroc. Brother could have gotten the car back but told them that he had sold it.
Love those registered letters from towing companies or salvage yards. I even got one from a scrap metal place about a car that I had last seen in the woods with no motor and missing a lot of parts.

Sold a Toyota van to a guy... six months later I see it on the news front and center in a hippie protest where they were hanging in bivouac's to save some old growth trees a thousand miles away. Two weeks after that a towing company calls and asks what I want to do with it. That guy did not even register it !
I made a lot of money off tow cars (with the same basic facts). Now, when I sell a car, I tell the buyer that if the car gets towed (and they haven't transferred the title) that I'll go get the car and if they want it back; they'll have to buy it from me again. Got the same certified letter from a towing company in Indianapolis wanting me to come pick up my Jeep I hadn’t had for 5 freaking years. I called them up and they said the same thing. I was the last registered owner. Turns out it was stolen from the dealership I traded it in at a half decade before and never found. The owner of the towing company said I could have it for the towing and storage fees. After the guy finished laughing his ass off that I hadn’t owned it for 5 years I asked him what kind of shape it was in and if it was even worth coming to get it. He said “well, it’s on two donuts and is barely recognizable as a Jeep but it runs. Probably not worth it but on the bright side there is WAY more than enough weed left over in this thing to more than pay for the storage fees.” I still regret not going back up and buying that back just for the story.
