Damnit I haven’t thought of TNN in forever! Mechanic shows in the morning and NHRA around lunch. Every weekend with my dad as a kid. Thanks for that story.
I have to laugh at how you describe Gadsden because you're right. I remember Dr K's shop, after you mentioned the 3 mill houses. Remarkable how small this old world is sometimes. Thank ya Rob!
"TV Magic" means drop it off to a pro this town is a Pothole and a stop sign. Well done Rabbit, almost spit out my coffee, never heard that sh!t befor man.
I loved watching all those car shows, I still remember when I got old enough to realize that they did not really build them and everything worked perfectly the first go around. It was like a kid learning about Santa Claus. Thanks for the entertainment,#Rabbit for World President. 👍
My buddy Chuck Hansen worked on HP TV for TNN.....Great guy one of the only magazine guys I ever respected.....Showed me his shop in Los Angeles after I sold him a numbers matching 68 RS 302 Z/28 Camaro with cowl plenum intake. Chuck had tons of parts....Got them for mentioning manufacturers in magazine articles.....BUT, Chuck actually wrenched on his own cars....haven't talked to him in years....The EFI company was either TPS out of Minnesota or First Sensors out of Washington State.....My Ex-wife had 87 IROC Z with 305/5speed with new chip....lots of problems with those early systems....kept overheating....put stock chip back in....Bill Howell was Ex-GM EFI engineer that did great packages with that era of EFI.....
We Honeymooned out there in 2004 and seen it on display in the museum, was kinda cool seeing it, I can remember when they built it, it is cool to hear about the troubles they had with it🤣😂🤣
I watch all your videos - this story is one of my favorites - everyone has that one person they know - the expert - my guy - the doc was your Dads guy - that’s awesome !! Love your content - keep ‘em coming !!!
Thank you for these videos. It's nice to learn a ton while hearing a great story! (Wrapped in another story that rolls into another story) Hope to catch you at a show, someday. I have a ton of questions 🙂
Awesome story rabbit! Can relate I had my 93 c4 in the shop for months after a couple hours and a couple beers I said these old chevs are like Nintendo’s I blew in the connectors and gave it a good slap an it ran like a top... needless to say I bought an ecm
Man this story reminds me of a great uncle who was a union electrician, who worked on construction of San Onofre nueclear power plant. I was 15 and my dad was looking for a car for my entrance into high school and a old mustang was top on the list, so he runs into a old friend from the hills that grew marijuana back in the days of periquat and camp raids. The story goes he buys a 1988 BMW M3 at Nello BMW in SF and on his way home through the county seat is spotted by local CHP gunning for him, so he pulled over and the proceed to bring dog in and tear the car apart cutting front seats removing panels looking for hidden panel cutting wires as they go only to find nothing but he swears he had a Marlboro pack full of joints in his shirt pocket they missed. He is one of those smoke some to focus guys and starts connecting things with wire nuts and electrical tape only to turn the key and smoke the entire harness and watches the factory stereo catch fire. He buys Recaro seats for the front and complete Alpine CD/Amp/Speakers from company and puts in the car un installed and the cops decide to do a raid on his house later that year. My dad knows he knows what cars are for sale in the hills and mentions he looking for a mustang for me and he proceeds to tell my dad about his black BMW and that he'll never be caught in a flashy car again as he thinks it started his bad luck. My dad by the car with 400mi on the odometer in 1996 for $450 and an old buffalo Springfield album. My great uncle retrieved a wiring diagram from BMW and set up peg board and hooks and rebuilt the harness for $60 in parts with a new one something like $2k. I learned allot that summer be rebuilding the harness and while my friends had irocs and old pickups, I had the black beamer with the kick-ass sound and the fancy bbs wheels to boot. I traded that car for a 96 bronco in college and still regret it today as it was my first and last sports car with more practical needs today.
My dad use to work there, it was a sad day when they got bought out. Most of them went to CMT which then became owned by VIACOM which has been a nightmare the past 20 years.
Man I loved watching TNN had some really good drag racing coverage back in the day. I wonder how many other computers they tried before they went back with Dr. K's?
I am wondering if there was an error with the actual naming of the network. I remember as a kid in my late teens watching the car shows on TNN. I remembered the logo being a white guitar head on a red background and some goofy font spelling out the words Tennessee national network. Later in the 2000s it became the new TNN without any of the word sspelled out and after that it became spike TV. I also remember multiple iterations of that show. The first one was shade tree mechanic, the next was crank and chrome, and finally it ended with two guys garage.
Shade Tree Mechanic? Haven't heard that name, or TNN for that matter for a long time! I grew up on that shit. Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill... Ah the 90's...
I've never been all crazy about C&W but won't fault anyone who is. But, I swear that ol Shania had me sitting tall in the saddle and I don't mean maybe!
Gregorious Anomalous - Same brother, but that's what my parents had on the radio at the time, then when I discovered MuchMusic and she came on... so did I, hahaha!
I grew up watching shade tree mechanic and watching them build that t bucket. Didn't the steering shaft come loose going on the test drive? Haha. Side note I live about 30 mins from Gadsden, al
If you ever want to find the answer to something car related, you can probably find someone to help you in bama. I say that as a north Alabama relative for 40 years.
,,, Billy Howell, retired from Chevy and had a harness, and maybe more, building business in Michigan, I think he might have ran a one of Chevy's dynos . Had all that stuff for putting late model engines in cars from the Fifties or just about anything. I'm sure he got rid of all the unnecessary stuff . I sure would have liked to spend some time with Dr. K .
If Dr.k is still alive, you should have him on for some stories No offense by that, just kinda seemed like he was already older when the story you told happened
Way 2 funny I live in gadsden al been here all my life and I knew dr k and his family the next generation of keltons started wrecker service and also have a bunch of tour buses that they run all over the place
TNN American sports cavalcade. Nascar to truck pulls to swamp buggy races just about anything motor sports. Sure miss those days. If yall aint to busy, check out DD speed shop. Giving away a 57 chevy for 57,000 subs. I won'r win, but somebody will.

Damnit I haven’t thought of TNN in forever! Mechanic shows in the morning and NHRA around lunch. Every weekend with my dad as a kid. Thanks for that story.
I uses to live for those shows on TNN. Me my Brother and our Dad watched them every weekend.
There are more Docs in this world that know a thing or two about cars than most people realize. Excellent stress reliever playing with cars.
I have to laugh at how you describe Gadsden because you're right. I remember Dr K's shop, after you mentioned the 3 mill houses. Remarkable how small this old world is sometimes. Thank ya Rob!
Made-for-tv, so you mean you look at it cross-eyed and it falls apart? I'm glad for another rabbit video!
"TV Magic" means drop it off to a pro

Back in the Two Guys Garage days, dad was good friends with Sam. He came over and helped us fire up a 1968 442 we had issues with. Good memories
Those old school electrical mechanics really are the best

Grew up watching the shady tree garage in the 90s with my dad. What a perfect day to hear about a show I haven't thought about in like 20 years.
So many cool stories to last a lifetime.
Rabbits got a UA-cam channel, hell yeah! Subscribed.
I love when you say “if you don’t know kids you can google it” because it’s me I’m the 16 yo high school kid with a trans am lol

Oxidized aluminum.
I’m about 20 minutes from there, does he have a “shop name”?
That was 20 years ago, he might have a "grave site".
Idk why but this guy reminds me of Rodney dangerfield
that looks like one of the cars they stole from gone in 60 seconds
Don’t judge a mechanic by his (roof) cover I reckon!!
