Me: I want a horror movie where the main character is actually smart
Director: Granted, but the killer is smart too
This is what I love about all of Flanagan’s movies; his protagonists (and even most supporting characters) are always good, reasonable, competent characters. It’s kind of odd how uncommon that is in the genre... (note: I have not yet seen Doctor Sleep or Before I Wake, so I don’t know if they are different)
That’s the perfect horror movie for me. Smart protagonist and antagonist makes a good horror movie for me.

The entire concept of this freaks me out so much. Not only because she can't hear the killer approaching or where he could be entering but also because she can't know how quiet or loud she's being when trying to escape or hide. The anxiety level in this movie was through the roof.

This is how most people go out when they are murdered. Adrenaline makes the human body EXTREMELY resilient for at most a minute. This is why Johns death was so concerning to me, because that is one of the most realistic deaths i have ever seen in a movie.

Maddie using her blood to write "coward" on the window was badass and my favorite scene
I loved when the killer took off his mask during the first half of the film. It was a small psychological twist that we never see in horror movies. The killer wanted her to see who he was so he could have an excuse to kill her. He didn't care if she saw his face because he planned to kill her regardless.
I think you misinterpreted it. He didn't need a reason to kill her and taking off the mask was a way to tell her that he intends to kill her regardless of reason. It was one of many times he mocks her.

The killer is probably my favorite, because he was in control the entire time. He is also the scariest, because of how possible it is. I actually wanted the killer to win.

Honestly it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Maddie should have been able to feel the vibrations and see movement through her peripheral vision.

Hush was actually really good in my opinion. It was unique for its time and actually made me paranoid as I've dealt with a break in personally. It's honestly one of the most terrifying things I've been through.

That first murder of the innocent neighbor lady legit messed me up when I watched this movie the first time. It’s so realistic and the lady is so desperate to live. It makes you think about real murders and how horrible that last moment must be for the innocent victims.

As a novelist, I can confirm this is 100% true. It took me about four years to write my first book, because a lot of it is just trying to get through a writer's block or figuring out how to best word something.
Very relatable. I’m a writer trying to make a living off of it, but I also do need a part time job since I have to because writing is hard to make a living off of it. Anyway tangent aside, I typically write my novels on the fly but due to the frustration I started to outline. Either way I can relate to staring at a screen and getting mad because I can’t think of anything.

Hush was the first horror movie I was brave enough to watch alone… after reading the Wikipedia page, watching a “How to Beat” video, and watch a kill count.
I still got scared, but I enjoyed it and dared myself to watch more horror movies. It will always have a special place for me because it’s the reason I got into horror!

I cannot begin to describe the serotonin hit I got when the police lights came on in the background at the end of the movie. She won, she survived! Literal chills. They did such a great job with this movie and I'm mad at myself for not watching it sooner

Hush isn't my favorite thriller, though it is actually pretty high on my list, but I think the moment that got the strongest emotional reaction from me out of any thriller movie I've ever seen was John already being set up to take out the bad guy but getting killed because Maddie unwittingly distracted him. That just tore me up inside, I felt *awful*.

Watching Hush after finishing Midnight mass makes it even better. Love when she is writing about Erin and Riley. Sarah and Maddie’s relationship was so cute, so different than Bev and Erin. Glad Mike was finally able to make Midnight Mass.

I absolutely LOVE how they made her disability a strength at the end- especially making hearing a WEAKNESS for the killer. I wish they’d hired an actually HOH actor, but otherwise, this was pretty rad.

the guy who produced this film is actually a family friend, and he kept the killer’s mask from this movie on a table in the living room. i would ask him what it was when i was little and he would never elaborate further than “one of his movies” cause he didnt want to scare me lol. cool guy!

Imagine how tense it would’ve been if the entire thing was completely silent. I would’ve absolutely loved it. It would’ve had a buildup with no release of tension and that would’ve left me on the edge for so long.

I'm so glad they kept sound in the film but with minimal dialogue. This really is a hidden gem home invasion movie. The scene where the killer removes his mask gave me chills

I absolutely loved when the killer took off his mask during the first half of the film. It was a small psychological twist that we never see in horror movies. The killer wanted her to see who he was so he could have an excuse to kill her. He didn't care if she saw his face because he planned to kill her regardless.
