Andris Nelsons conducts the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in part one of Dvoľák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, 'From the New World' during Proms 2010 season.
why are people getting upset about the faces the conductor is making? he's obviously having the time of his life and he loves his job! that's really great in my opinion! it's hard to find people who enjoy their job this much nowadays
This conductor is amazing! I love it when you get conductors that actually appear to enjoy the music and share that passion with the members of the orchestra - for myself, as an orchestral player, it makes so much difference to the performance :D
A. Nelsons is simply one of the greatest conductors in the world right now, giving 100% in each and every concert, following the footsteps of Abbado and Rattle. He is conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker on a regular basis, also the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, he has been on tour with the Wiener Philharmoniker recently etc. He certainly has his own mind and rightfully so. That's why he is conducting these ensembles which are as good as an orchestra can get.
WOW- yes love the conductor! Watching him I feel as though I should grab an instrument and start playing! INTENSE! Love it! Plus, this is one of my favorite pieces!
Oh my GOSH this is one of the best interpretations of this piece I have ever heard! The styling and contrast is just fantastic and the rhythm is SO tight! This group knows how to play! Very well put together!
I am a fan of Pink Floyd , Genesis , Supertramp !! But one can also like and appreciate this !! This is MUSIC !! and worth hearing ! Just sit , and let go the thing ! it makes you travel !! great !!
Beautiful! I have this everytime when coming home from the pub. Conducting with my wife´s knitting needle. No, no...no joking - very professional, wonderful and worth listening. Again and again!
THIS YOUNG CONDUCTOR IS GREAT..I THINK TOO THAT HE FEELS SOME LIKE AN ORGASM...BUT THIS IS WONDERFUL IN MUSIC... I REMEMBER THE jIMMY pAGE EXPRESSION IN THE ROCK SONG "STAIR WAY TO HEAVEN", WHERE HE EXPREES THIS PASSION TOO...
That conductor fascinates me! :D His facial expressions are the best ones... You can see by watching the orchestra, how it understands what exactly the conductor wants... it's just awesome! Thanks for posting.
Very good. Last, but not least I'm happy that also the sound qualitiy is good here (you're feeling the space of the hall etc., that's good) and the conduction of the pictures, too
i am singing bellow Andris in Bayreuth...he is absolutely lovely person and he allways wants to get the music from the piece. Is trying to motivate thru himself to bigger expression. He is musician. You won´t ever be bored in any piece he is conducting...
Amazing piece and great version I thought, I just wish they hadn't put the conductor in as many scenes during some of the most technically impressive moments - e.g. 08:44 or 09:00 - I wanted to see the musicians playing those bits! ...still - good to see a younger conductor up there trying something a bit different
ANDRIS NELSONS HAVE HERE A MAGISTRAL AND GREAT PERFORMANCE ,STILL WITH HIS SO PECULIAR STYLE,NO EXCENT OF COMIC OR HUMORISTIC BEHAVIOR ELEMENTS ...!!! FROM LIMA PERU
From 8:44 to the end it's playing to - an all-out massacre I would say - and I know what I'm talking about because I myself play the violin and orchestra here that plays a I play first violin and it's pretty hard...But here it's really beautiful, and sometimes it freezes on the back :D
Damn, glad I gave up the cancer sticks. Awesome performance despite the human reaction to smoking...Take some cough syrup before attending a performance like this PLEASE.
No it's not just you cazzel lol he waves in a weird way to me but anyway the rendition remains very interesting and valuable to me. Thanks for sharing this.
The Proms delivers again. Not one of these Proms performances I have seen is anything but AAA+ The conductor missed his calling in life as a conductor - Oh no he didn't...
@MrHathouse Id like to see you try to play a wind instrument! Were not all "stuck up with a nasal twang" as you like to put it. I play the french horn and the electric guitar, and I ENJOY classical music, as well as rock.
yes the orchestra is amazing, yes it is a very good performance, yes i am also a conductor from south america so i envy this guy, but dude!!!!!! your conducting scares the sh*t out of me!!
What do you mean by "ends up becoming like frankenstein" :D:D Dvorak wrote this nearly 50 years before the upcoming 12-note-composition technique which is used in modern horrormovies.. (Which basically creates this "creepy atmosphere" you mean) Wanna hear "something creepy"? Listen to some of Béla Bartók´s compositions ;))
YES the orchestra is amazing,YES it is a very good performance, YES i am also a conductor from south america so i envy this guy, but DUDE!!!!!! your conducting scares the sh*t out of me!!
I tend to agree with you in that some of the younger conductors are way over-rated but I think you will find the harsh sound here is more to do with the quality of the upload. His intrepretation is a bit disjointed I think and he certainy has some questionable tempi. However, I have a recording of Nelsons conducting the Tchaikovsky 5th symphony which is actually very good so maybe he shoud not be judged on this "unfortunate" Dvorak 9th alone.
why are people getting upset about the faces the conductor is making? he's obviously having the time of his life and he loves his job! that's really great in my opinion! it's hard to find people who enjoy their job this much nowadays
Good point
People mad about that? At least now people is just laughing at his amazing job
What I see that he loves music!!

You can see the passion in the conductors face.
Love this conductor shows so much emotion

Everlasting music. For generations to come.

Andris knows how this symphony should sound. Thanks for uploading.
this piece is played well, but the conductor makes it even better...love his expressions
Indeed, great orchestra and getting better and better!
This could have been a great performance, but the decision to add a coughing section during the opening was ill-judged, to say the least.
Throughout a lot of the song
This guy has passion, well done Sir!
I really love how the condudctor is into the music, that's really powerful (and he looks a bit like Ramsay Snow but that's my opinion ^^)
Very nice conductor! I want a boss like this guy!
i swear, everytime i listen to this piece, it gets better.

I love this piece so much!!! And that conductor.... lol XD
The strings in here are amazing.
Hilarious on the eyes yet full of attitude and story for the soul...superb..
i think MANY people would have been crapping their pants with laughter, trust me...
Trust me, many conductors are like that so probably they're used to it... :)

you see that the crudoctor has much fun! I like these crudoctors, who always freak out, in a positiv way! :)
THIS is music!
I
want to play in a performance like this someday.
@1:03 party hard dude
LOL
There were multiple coughs in the song. Example being 0:19. This means a totally different thing now that COVID exists.
Very enthusiastic conductor
Indeed. Thanks for your feedback and kind regards. Dvorak rules ;-)
Brilliant. I'm going to see Bruckner at the Proms this year. Love it.
ANDRIS NELSONS HAVE HERE A MAGISTRAL AND GREAT PERFORMANCE ,STILL WITH HIS SO PECULIAR STYLE,NO EXCENT OF COMIC OR HUMORISTIC BEHAVIOR ELEMENTS ...!!! FROM LIMA PERU

I don't care about the phasing, it's nice music.
I love the piece, the orchestra and the conductor :) Does anybody know where can i download all the concert? Thanks!
nice one
They missed out the repeat
From 8:44 to the end it's playing to - an all-out massacre I would say - and I know what I'm talking about because I myself play the violin and orchestra here that plays a I play first violin and it's pretty hard...But here it's really beautiful, and sometimes it freezes on the back :D
2:34 OMG ! EPIC *o*
Seems like this conductor's conductivity is too high he got spasms throughout the piece.
Those moments when I'm proud for being Czech...
Who coughed?..During a performance like this??...My word thats a complete NoNO!
Muy bueno
music's so great that i want to smack down the people who cough
The Proms delivers again. Not one of these Proms performances I have seen is anything but AAA+
The conductor missed his calling in life as a conductor - Oh no he didn't...
Wrr ist noch von der 7d CEG bei Herr Bobe (I bims der Birk)#Coronatime
is it just me or does the conductor remind me of jim carrey? lol
@luigiistcool do you mean "conducter"?
@MrHathouse Id like to see you try to play a wind instrument! Were not all "stuck up with a nasal twang" as you like to put it. I play the french horn and the electric guitar, and I ENJOY classical music, as well as rock.
I dont know what is meant by "new world", but one day performing this with robot musicians will mean a lot.
this is a music of the commercial italian maalox
@JimmieOC
What JimmieOC said.
To wich film belongs this piece?
anyone see the giant cello?
tudo loco !
yes the orchestra is amazing, yes it is a very good performance, yes i am also a conductor from south america so i envy this guy, but dude!!!!!! your conducting scares the sh*t out of me!!
thats at 7.07!
it is called EXPRESSION
Where did they take this video? Japan after a rainy day? Come on people, contain your coughs.
What's with the coughing? >:[
Funny how all the musicians are looking at their sheet music and not the conductor.
Интересно,что за шесть человек,которым на понравилось.Жалко нет фамилий.Хотелось-бы спросить-почему.Если кто из них читает,ответьте,пожалуйста.

YES the orchestra is amazing,YES it is a very good performance, YES i am also a conductor from south america so i envy this guy, but DUDE!!!!!! your conducting scares the sh*t out of me!!
no he has his Jim Carry face on...for shure.
2:00 > COLONY WARS
@MrHathouse : Why? Because you want to conduct as well, and you're not able to do so? ;-)
Is it just me or does the conductor look like Jack Nicholson making his way through a wooden door with an axe at 4:06
"Here's Johnny!"
gosh I would have been laughing my ass off as a musician in that orchestra just because of the conductor^^
Whoever has recorded this has kind of forgotten about the violas...
Wind wizards ?
@thisisclay Then you should maybe look at how Dudamel conducts...it is even scarier....

Perhaps a fatal electric should be administered to anyone that dares to emit a cough or a fart?
Second flute/Piccolo seems really skittish to play, like he is afraid of the conductor xD but, a amazing performance I must say :D
