Sarah is one of my favorites, she rocks , and I am 70 years old .
Yes, she does rock! Right there with ya, Robert.
Me too! 65 here, and I am in love with all the uber talented young people, might I mention Sierra Hull, 4 time IBMA mandolinist of the year, (see "Mad World"!), Molly Tuttle, AJ Lee, Billy Strings ...
@@christinemohr424 Josh Turner guitar, also a good pick.
Same, both counts, a fave and I just turned 70
Two of the best lines in any song ever: Cold gin in the back room hummin', medicating for the trouble that's comin' and You make me want to be alone. I can sure relate to both of those.
She has one of the most haunting and evocative voices out there. What an amazing talent!
What a blessing is this generation of talented instrumentalists, writers, interpreters and voices: from Sarah, Aoife O'Donovan, and Laura Marling to talents like Waxahatchee, Johanna Warren, Mitski... Thanks, Gods and muses!
All wonderful, and, if it's not just coincidence that it's all females, don't overlook Gillain Welch, whose songwriting contributions will live on for a good long time. (she is older, though, but great, and she sure hasn't hurt the explosion of Americana/folk/roots talent that we've seen.)
Huh? Other than Sarah, what do any of those people you mention have anything to do with House of Mercy? Sarah much better with her band as I do NOT like Sarah with I'm with her.
@@jsbtuxman The harmonies with "I'm With Her" are brilliant
and, Molly Tuttle
Real music, real storytelling.
Heard this for the first time on my way to work in the car on CBC radio. Absolutely had to hear more.
💘
I my God I love Sarah! Believe it or not I know her. We both grew up in wimberly TX. I went to St Stephen school and her mom taught there.
Stunning musician!
Even for you, this one really nails it . It is testimony that when well played, less is more. Very well recorded and mastered. I’ve been following you for years and you are a unique talent. Kudos, Sarah!
Love the harmony vocs . Love it all but the harmony makes it. And that octave mandolin!
Just awesome. These people are some of the very best people performing today. I saw them in Maine recently and they are incredible.
Sarah and Jedd both extremely talented musicians and songwriters and both blessed with amazing voices
Wow. Just wow. So talented.
Who on earth dislikes this? It's brilliant!
It's always gorgeous sound when Sarah is on stage.
SUPERB!!! Sarah, thank you so so much, real music isn't dead!!
Just wow!!!
I saw her last night. She was excellent. She is using a different guitarist from this video, but they opened with this song. It was a cool concert in a small enough venue (Greenville, SC) that all seats were good. Sold out!
This has to be one of my favorite songs, and one of my favorite performers.. I love everything I have heard from Miss Jarosz ... everything. Thank You.
She kinda reminds me of Gillian Welch a little bit. Love her voice. Just discovered her on an Anais Matthews vid tonight and I just discovered Anais Matthews a few days ago. Love finding new gems of talent like this
just discovered her as well playing background and singing for Paul Simon, love her voice, I do hear a little Gillian there(one of my all time favorites) . I'm with you , so many gems of talent but it's like mining for gold, you have to search for the nuggets among the sludge.
WOW! Honestly folks... really really good. Absolutely Love This.
Thank you.
Sweet performance. This lady's got talent.
Seeing her in Bury England tonight...cannot wait...
I love this song and your voice!!!
Saw them in Birmingham at Saturn venue last weekend. They were fantastic, of course. Sarah's voice is amazing, and her band collectively carries the soul of her songs to perfection. The show opened with Parker Millsap, who was also in top form- really a great performance. If you do get the chance to see them on tour this year, don't even hesitate.
Wow! That is just so great.
Just WOW! What a stirring performance!
She is amazing- I'm mesmerized by this song and Sarah
Really enjoyed her show at 2017 Merlefest. What a talented performer.
Amazing song and performance
Saw her at The Dakota last week. Great show!
Like it very much..Fresh and "rootsy" - congrats on the Grammy!
Badass. Sarah is gold and jewels. Love that young lady so much.
She's good, young and talented.
Wow- this is fantastic
the woman has an amazing talent
I just seen you on CBS good morning on Saturday, wow you are awesome, keep doing what you are doing.
I bought tickets to see her this coming Friday. very much looking forward to it
I love her voice
just great, wow !
Awesome !!!
o my GOD. so beautiful
so cool
Love it.
Perfect!!!
Magical!
Wow killing it 👍
Great performance
Fantastic sound.........
Excelente canta autora.
She's good solo but the dynamic she has with that excellent bass player makes her sound awesome.
Who is also her husband! They married this year (2023). 🙂
She tells the truth
wow
excellent
It's so good it almost doesn't sound live.
pro studio setting, pro mics
She always sounds like that, her vocal technique amazes me in every video i see.
Great Trio.
Only 16 348 views? great vocals, great music
Man alive!
Folk music theology at its very best!
Theology? Not likely.
I'm a huge fan of this song! Nice to also see a mandocello in action.
That's an octave mandolin, not a mandocello.
was wondering what that was
That octave mando has such a deep tone. Big guitar body seems like a good idea.
How do i give this more than one thumbs up?
great
In the middle of the night again
Still water and the birds don't sing
Cold gin in the back room humming
Medicating for the trouble that's coming
Walls rattle like a diesel freighter
Blood races like a wave
This house wasn't meant for strangers
But you come knocking anyway
I can hear you knocking on the door
I won't leave it open for you anymore
I can hear you knocking on the door
Knocking on the door of the house of mercy
Don't try to change my mind
That knock gets louder all the time
Don't try to wear me down
You'll never get inside this house
Underneath that shirt you're wearing
Strained muscles and a heart of stone
Double crossing like a wild chameleon
You make me want to be alone
I can hear you knocking on the door
I won't leave it open for you anymore
I can hear you knocking on the door
Knocking on the door of the house of mercy
Don't try to change my mind
That knock gets louder all the time
Don't try to wear me down
You'll never get inside this house
I can hear you knocking on the door
I won't leave it open for you anymore
I can hear you knocking on the door
Knocking on the door of the house of mercy
Really Great. The more I listen to you, the more I want too. OD CD 206
Every time I hear her octave mandolin, I want to get one, but they are so very expensive. Then I listen to others play the OM and I change my mind and decide not to get one.
please play Gruene Hall. I wouldn't miss it.
Tour Australia pleeease
I miss Hargreaves and Smith.
Fist time I've seen / heard her. Love the style and voice. I know nothing about her background. Does she also compose / write / arrange her pieces ?
ps..she is from Wimberley Texas... we have a strong Lions Club by the way. :)
Steve PAUL yep!
Steve PAUL yeah she also grew up in wimberly TX and her mom taught at St Stephens school. Im not a stalker! I just personally know her
Sharon Mickey so your from wimberly?
Tom Hamby k
~ Love her sound. Does anyone know the name of the guitar player/singer? TY
Elizabeth Harper , his name is Jedd Hughes. He has a co-writing credit on this tune. Sarah has also been accompanied recently by Anthony DaCosta on guitar.
Delicious.
I'm curious about Jedd's harmony lines... it's not your typical straight 3rd, and it doesn't follow the melody note for note. It's really cool... who made up this harmony -- Sarah? Jedd?
Sarah.... Mandocello. I"m a guitar player and also fiddle, mandolin, mandola. Mandocello is right in the pocket. Advice?
Anyone know what tuning the guitar player is using - it looks like double drop "D".....???
Michael Anderson double drop d works
What guitar is she playing? It's strung like a mandolin.
It's an octave mandolin. Neat instrument!
*****
Thanks! I'll have to get one for my wife!
Well, It looks like an octave tenor guitar. Like a four string tenor with octave strings. The oct mandolin is tuned differently. Kind of a pain to play, speaking as a mando man. I think it would be like a cittern or bouzouki. The tunings are often up to the player, music or region.
G. T. Voi
Brad Fletcher Brock Mandocello www.fletcherbrock.com/Mandocello.html
Sounds like the melody of Ohio by Neil Young???
Sounds like double drop D.
Had same thought.
what's that the 8-string guitar-like thing Sarah was playing?
large mandolin
Octave mandolin
And the Grammy goes too.........
How is Sarah's guitar strung/tuned?
It's not a guitar. It's a mandocello, tuned like a cello (C, G, D, A, low to high), with doubled strings like a mandolin (thus 8 strings). A mandolin is tuned like a violin, a mandocello is tuned like a cello.
@@Lwayte It's not a mandocello. It's an octave mandolin tuned the same as a standard mandolin (G, D, A, E) but one octave lower.
sounds like neil young ohio
Best complete rejection I've heard.
I do like this song, but sorry Sarah I much prefer your old trio. The sound you produced with the violin and the cello was fantastic.
I also like that version very much. However, it could be that carrying a cello player on the road doesn't work unless Jarosz used the cello on almost every song. Getting a local cellist to rehearse and then play on one or two songs might be very hard to do.
walking dead track right here yall
She's excellent but her songs are a bit weak.
