Does MF affects item rolls, like rolling items into magic stuff? And as far as I know, rune drop isn't affected by MF so maybe he's banking on the chance that the drops aren't rolling into magic and instead goes into rolling into runes, something like that?
So my understanding is that MF has zero effect on runes either way, because it only effects the chance a gear drop will be magic/rare/set/unique. So having MF or not having MF only makes any difference once the game has decided a drop is a piece of gear and not a rune.
