I did wonder what it would go for on the open market because it is not a car or body style that is hugely popular like Cuda, Camaro, GTO, Chevelle, Roadrunner, etc. That was irrelevant until the owner passed and now we will find out. I’m a lifelong car guy. I’ve spent a bunch of money and time on cars and garages etc., but can’t even wrap my head around $700+ thousand to build. I guess your perspective changes if you have $100 million squirreled away somewhere. I must admit I’ve never even thought about it. The craziest thing I noticed about this car and most of these ultra hi end resto rods is not a damn one of these cars is built with seat belts. Which is crazy given the amount of money and time that's spent on the sub components on these cars. You have $10,000 of carbon brakes on the car to slow down the car but you will get ejected thru the windshield. Smdh!!! For everything that the car is for it not to have seat belts is mind blowing to me.
could be but not so sure they are looking to get more, the owner who had it built is in eternity now. the estate (or heirs) I am guessing is selling it.
doing the math, this car cost $55 an hour to build at $715,000 divided by 13,000 hours, say it took $150,000 in parts and materials, that's roughly $43 an hour for labor, really not out of line for the quality of the work.
I'd say that Kindig's prices are a lot more than $43/hr. Maybe repeat customers get $50/hr. One time builds are probably double that. Also, most builds are not 13,000 hours. More like 4,000 hrs.
