By the looks of the videos I have seen of Doc I can tell he is a wonderful person. Seeing him smile and laugh makes me glad and love his guitar picking even more.
I'm so happy this video is still online. It's where we left off 10 years ago when I quit my guitar lessons and I'm gonna pick it right back up where I left off now!
Amateur mandolin picker here, but Doc is my favorite musician. Regardless of the specific instrument, it's a real treat to see such details of a performance from such a supremely talented individual, gracious teacher, and wonderful example for all mankind. What a legacy Doc left behind for us! RIP Doc
Look good folks! Doc Watson is a living legend. We only have these treasures for a short time. Let's appreciate Doc now, while he is still with us. Such a brilliant, humble man! I could sit down with him and talk or play for hours. A person could really learn something from someone like Doc Watson, about playing ugitar AND about life.
Inspirational in that Doc, in this video is elderly but can still play a guitar like a young man. Unlike sport based activities, guitar playing skills don't seem to diminish as much with age. I look forward to playing well into my dotage.
Really? I realized my versien was missing a few licks that I've gradually simplified over my time playing it, and picked up some even better stuff watching this. I enjoy playing along with doc, makes me feel like a baws.
keep practicing and eventually you'll be good enough that this type of video is all you'll need as a lesson to learn the song, you can see exactly what he's playing
The world misses you Doc . God the state of chart music today is a joke . This is what music is a man and his guitar and a world of talent and experience behind it and of course a humble man . God bless you Doc and thankyou from all guitat pickers .
I would suggest importing the video into a program like sony vegas (pro/platinum) and slowing it down in the program. You are right about Doc being very strict and close to the fretboard. He needs to be since he is blind as you know. I guess the reason why he never seems to let one finger move freely as Steve does, is a safety factor since making the use of chordshapes and having all fingers in the ready position makes it easier for him to find his way around the fretboard, being blind.
Doc is a legend and one of the few Bluegrass artists with real swing-jazz players will know what I mean. Many new Bluegrass hotshots sacrifice feel for speed and metronomic precision, losing much of what makes music, musical.
Doc is 86 years old now. I was lucky enough to see him this summer in Sugar Grove, N. Carolina. He played with his grandson Richard Watson, (Merle's son) and Charles Welch. I have four or five vids of the live performance posted on my channel here on You Tube. Go to Grasshopperslim and check them out if you like Doc!
haha and very funny. THis is an ancient post I realize. There are also some lessons on a Van Halen site. Some old bro teaches how to play rock leads. I think his name is Eddie : )
Is there any way to get slow playback on UA-cam? It's hard enough to pick up the fills even when they low it down for the lesson. Doc Watson is expecially hard to follow since he plays so close to the fretboard. The other guys rips it up as well !! Great Stuff ...
@McMillan753 dude, get a clue!!! Refering to Doc Watson as some "Old Bro" is a insult to anyone who know anything about the pioneers in flatpicking. There's a ton a instructional material on homespun tapes...go check out their web site, order some of Doc's stuff, practice for the rest of your life and you'll still never be as good this "old bro"!!!!!!
This despicable comment is clearly ignorant hate speech and should be condemned by everyone who reads it. I am reporting this to UA-cam and hope they will remove your presence from their system.
Happy Traum ban everyone I disagree with 😭😭😭😭😭. People realized hundreds of years ago that censorship was a bad thing, and look at you trying to repeat the mistakes of the past.
@@xkidmidnightx It's not censorship when you try to make someone understand they are making a hurtful, bigoted and thoughtless remark about another person's heritage. Try kindness, tolerance and a little thought for others. Maybe that will work.
By the looks of the videos I have seen of Doc I can tell he is a wonderful person. Seeing him smile and laugh makes me glad and love his guitar picking even more.
I was fortunate to get to go to one of his performances in a small venue in Memphis back in the 80s. Amazing picking.
that harmonized ending to the melody line is incredible.
Who doesn't love Doc! Check out the fingerboard as they do closeups. EVERY fret position is worn! LOL! This man is magic.
Thank you homespun! Your materials are so helpful.
I'm so happy this video is still online. It's where we left off 10 years ago when I quit my guitar lessons and I'm gonna pick it right back up where I left off now!
I absolutely love ol' Doc!
I've never found one of his albums less than amazing. If they were vinyl I'd have worn them out by now.
My Doc Watson vinyls are pretty scratchy.
I love the respect Steve shows to Doc

Doc had something special. His timing was impeccable
Reference standard for WWV
That was EPIC. Both unbelievable guitar players.
I'm just getting into country/bluegrass and this helps a lot.
thank you DOC!!!!!!!!!!!
thats one of the things that makes it purty doc is the man
Another one for the must buy list, it's like hands on history with one of the greats as well as music lessons.

@Mike Bastiat I'm 67 and so for so good.
Going to a clinic in a couple weeks with steve kaufman teaching can't wait!
If there was a Mount Rushmore for guitar players, Docs 's image would have to be considered.
Considered??? FRONT and CENTER
Doc is the BEST. Thanks for putting this up; it was very helpful for picking up on some of the right hand stuff.
Really?

I enjoy playing along with doc, makes me feel like a baws.
Absolutely true, he was inspiring.
Wonderful, I've a lot of Doc just by listening "lp's"..
I sure do miss Doc.
I bet he don't miss us too much
keep practicing and eventually you'll be good enough that this type of video is all you'll need as a lesson to learn the song, you can see exactly what he's playing
Thank you for that expert advice--Who are you again??
This man does a great job, keep up the good job
I love this man!! 🧡

I didn't know it was possible for Doc to make a mistake. I love his music and him even more now.
Yep!
oh my werd this is why doc watson is a legend
"I love the doggone thing do much I had to learn to pick some"
donksyjohn Now that's a fact!
Amazing picking!
Miss you.

wow!
太厲害了~
Strange how Doc Watson says " that's how Doc Watson did it "

Amazing

"might not be according to Hoyle" --- nice anachronisms thrown in the banter.
A lot of people probably have no idea what that means.
the b part with the stretch out.ughhh....I need a swedish pinky pump to nail that lick!
I wonder how he’d sound on my Gibson j45.
None of my guitars sound like that
Doc would sound good on anything he played. Having said that his Gallagher's sound spectacular!
great!
0:16 for ult fun jam
Why is doc wearing a watch?
That's Steve wearing a watch, I expect
no problem picking this one up - 10 minutes of practice should do it
Kaufman's no slouch, either
Billy Strings brought me here....
"Some old bro"? Come on man. You must have got lost looking for 50 cent.
@McMillan753

That doesn't really need "teaching". It needs HOURS and HOURS (and hours!) of practice.
Like everything about this except the jew
