I think his rear end problem started at the 0:34 mark, when the engine briefly "cut out" and back on it again under full power. These modified KTA's are making 4,000+ hp and 5,000 +/- ft. lbs of torque at 4,000 - 4,500 rpms... against all that weight they're dragging in the dirt, it's a darn miracle that they "survive" as well as they do, without more parts attrition.
As for the "expert" talking in the video near the camera, right after everything came to a halt.... I don't think he's real familiar with Heavy Duty Cummins... either that, or the last Cummins he saw, was a light duty, in a Dodge pickup, or a JT series from the 1940's and 1950's... with a single head. The HRF's, NHC's, NTC's and NTA's (855ci) all had three heads, and the KT's and KTA's (1150ci... as in this Mack) all have individual heads for each cylinder.
0:38 mark Look at the rear tandem the wheels hop right before the hood goes up. That's when it broke.
"Holy Macaroni!"
Way to be dramatic homie.
+Tyranitar -Lucas Streeval- that guy should announce for nascar!
I could be wrong, but it looks like the drive line in the back end broke (drive shaft, u joint, axle?). When those/that part(s) broke it allowed the engine to over rev immediately as a second earlier it had been under a great deal of load. Looks to me like a broken drive line part caused the engine to over rev and fail?? Could be wrong, but that's my guess.
that's probably a pretty accurate assessment
"Did he say holey macaroni "? 😐
@Krad Links
Yes!!!
Yes!!!!
He definitely said, “Holy Macaroni!!!!”
HOLY MACARONI
Very nice truck
The announcer did say he had a Cumapart under the hood.
Looks like he got too much coal under the hood lol.
not I can do I can rpejrjo
HOLY MACARONI!
Yea I was at Buck motorsports park and saw a 16yo kid pulling a modified 4 Turbo 998ci v8 Mack for his first pull in his life..... kid hammers down truck starts hopping u can just tell it's the beginning of the end went over to see what all happened to the truck he ended up breaking a u joint and the motor soared up to 6100 rpms before putting a rod through the side of the block..... poor kid.... dad better have some $$$$$$$$
+Ron Gentry They didn't have a governor? so very stupid.
Loose nut behind the wheel! Cool vid
REAL SCARY BEING THE SLED OPERATOR , TOO, WHEN SOMETHING TAKES A
MAJOR S--T LIKE THAT! THE SLED DRIVE LINE CAN FAIL AND THEN YOU HAVE THE WEIGHT BOX FLYING FORWARD, AND DAMN LITTLE TIME TO BRAKE IT DOWN!!
Apparently the hood cables broke as well?
Darn shame....he was doing alright.
what happened to the truck
all the smoke come out
The rear end blew apart, temporarily locking up(left rear tire jumps in the air), then let's go sending the engine to the moon, Kaboom.
Pretty much on point!
I want to know will you sent me the address were this is.how much is the ticket for this truck pull ticket
pretty much any county fair in the Midwest
Crankshaft on the ground!
what camera are you using?
Thanks man im camera hunting n may have found what im looking for. Checked out your other vids. Looks like a good lil camera for its price.
Nice vids BTW.
what was the medium resolution you were using? i picked one of these cameras up for $159 works fine. but when i edit the vids they loose quality. any tips? or good programs for editing.
also my camera will not select 30p or 60p. yours the same?
sorry i meant it wont select 35mbps in mp4 mode and wont select 60p in avchd. i have 16gb class 10 sdxc card.
ive been using movie maker for awhile now. works fine for all my older footage. im thinking i have a out dated version cause i have no options to up the bit rate or anything like that. downloading another version now. hopefully thats my problem.
so this vid was shot in 17mbps? my computer is hooked up to my 40in tv n it comes out crystal clear in 1080p. because of this vid i bought this camera. thanks.
ghost frames? is that when its all choppy/blocky?
sorry for all the questions. just figured id ask you since you have some experience with this camera and shoot the same sort of vids as me. thanks for your help.
These engines have 6 heads, one head per cylinder. I wish I could tell what went wrong.
+Wrench Moran... Really ?..a U - joint... since when does just a broken U - joint put gear oil on the ground ??
From the way it jumped at the rear, and in combination with the oil on the ground, my guess would be that the pinion shaft, and Or, the ring gear assembly busted and took out the carrier, or at least punched a whole through the center of the "pumpkin" housing.
Considering that these modified KTA's turning at 4,000 - 4,500 and putting out close to 5,000 ft lbs of torque (or Over 5,000, like Carey's KTA powered "Big Horn" Dodge) against that load they're dragging and plowing into the dirt.... a twisted pinion shaft or stripped / busted ring and pinion, is entirely plausible..... and it's extremely surprising that, along with busted U - joints, twisted driveshafts, and axle shafts..... happen as infrequently as they do, unless they have the bucks to change all that stuff out, between each pull they attend..... something akin to rebuilding the entire engine and clutch pack between every round in the "fuel" classes of drag racing (TF & FC)...... but hey!!... whats 12 - 14 million bucks just to go fast,.... it's "Only" money. : )
i know but we didnt know it was going to happen
thats what happens with lucas oil!
I was standing next to the little girl that got hit with the parts the blew off scared the shit out of all of us
Sheesh a Cummins mack
😂
Ohh Volvo..why...?
The bulldog had to poop 💩
😂
This is a nice way to destroys trucks lmao
Only a moron would make an ignorant comment like that.
Looks like drive shaft let go, no big deal unless he over spun the engine..
He did over spin it pay attention he blew a head off (1 of 6)
wasn't the drive shaft, the rear end blew up, look at all the gear oil on the ground under the back of the truck.
Omg
What the hell was he towing? What is the goal in this "sport"?
***** Thanks man, kind of weird sport, but if people like it :-).
***** Central Europe, former Czechoslovakia. Here probably prices of truck tires and other stuff are so expensive that no one can afford the events like this.
***** :-) Exactly. IMHO waste of resources, but if they can afford it, why do not do it.
FRA66ER6 From what I understand, it started out as sort of a pissing match (much like many "sports") between farmers back before tractors were invented to see who's horse team could pull more weight, which was usually other farms and farmhands that stood on the wooden sled the further down the field it was pulled to gradually increase the load the horses pulled. As time and tech progressed to tractors as they were put into competition, then trucks, then they started modifying if not purpose building said vehicles just for pulling purpose build mechanical sleds with sliding weights that moved the weight forward as the vehicle progressed down the strip of dirt or clay being used.
GreenJeep1998 Maybe, good point. Thx for your thought!
😬😬😬
What the fuck happened
Meh, I've seen a lot worse carnage at many other tractor pulls.
HOLY MACARONI
