I love the vixen, its so derpy looking and has such a chill playstyle, it really rewards patient players.
Red Tops underperform so much ingame, their range should be higher and they should be all-aspect against supersonic targets. However, still a super fun and competitive plane :)
I don't know when they were buffed, I assume because of the Premium lighting. But before this change these missiles were so annoying to use. But let's just hope that one day they will be in game how they are in real life.
If they made the red tops realistic this would probably be 9.3 lol

When I was spading my Tu-4, this was one of the easiest planes to counter/destroy. All I had to do was turn off my engines and open the radiators to rapidly cool the engines.
That's the most evil thing I've ever heard (and also one of the most heads up plays in War Thunder history)
Yup I've had that problem. So I went back and grabbed dumb rockets 😉 couldnt counter then
The performance of the redtops really makes me wish gaijin would just... you know... lower the BR of the god damn F-86F-40, I seriously wonder how the hell they think two AIM-9Bs make that thing 9.3

That twin engine, twin boom, swept wing silhouette was the first british plane i fell in love with (side and underbelly pics in book). Even after seeing its cockpit, still my fav brit

Gotta say that I love the Sea Vixen, personally, as the boom and zoom tactic works best for me. Love diving out the clouds and causing sheer panic! T'is a shame it has no gun though.
THANK YOU for posting this! I've been seriously considering getting this and you showed it off well. It obviously isn't always a 3k but I'm looking dor a casual fun grinder (like my AVRE). I also just love the look of this this (you can radar lock to slave the missile it seems)

@@John-Cheems because you only have missiles, you can never 1v1 with only missiles on this BR.
@@HawK4all You can energy trap most Jets at your BR or at least at its old 8.3 BR. Now if they're smart they wont over commit and will keep speed. IF they don't keep speed. They wont dodge the missiles.
I think the last time I flew it was last year's summer event. Not sure if the task was to kill bombers or to just get missile kills, but i made a preset that made my BR 7.7 in AB. So I was bullying bombers all day with this, even made a 11 kill game. Yes i got the task too.

What I love about this jet is that no one ever seems to expect the RN rockets slapping them.
HopefullyF-102 and F-106 gets added with only missiles and the 106 gets an upgrade for the 6 shooter

Can confirm, just took it out again afterwatching this Video. Most games I'm getting 2 or 3 kills with it

Personally from my sea vixen experience I recommend using missiles at a range from 1-2.5km
4:50 how tf did you survive that? This right there normally is your ticket back to hangar because of that giant rudder and unarmored pilot seat. I love that plane and fly her often but i never survived THAT kind of hits to the back. Either rudder or pilot, but never unscathed like here.

The 50 cals are doing barely anything atm for some reason idk what happened, only hits and rarely (reallllllly rarely) you light someone on fire
ikr, he even got hit directly for like 100 rounds but none of them rendered any damage... Such BS sometimes with hit registration.
I’m terrible with bulpulp missiles so you have any tips with guiding them because I’m thinking about getting the sea vixen?
Turn off relative control in the options for guided munitions. Will solve 90% of the issue I bet

I have a 68 percent win rate with this thing. Absolutely insane plane
I have like a 80% with the harrier
So I just got this plane from the recent sale and this is what I’ve learned from it as a niche player
1. The vixen has very good energy retention and at the right angle you can easily maintain 650+ mph in a turn.
2. The missile are very good for side and rear aspect shots. However it’s ideal to fire them at around 2km away if your going fast, but if your going almost the same speed at your enemy, be at atleast 1.2 km away
3. The vixen does not handle damage very well, a light orange vertical stabilizer turns you into a unturnable brick so make sure to stay away from dog fights
4. This one is going to sound ratty but the vixen is very good at kill stealing but beware, from the few hours I’ve have if I’ve already been shot down 3 times by my own salty teammates
Hopefully this information helps to anybody who’s looking at buying it, once you get the hang of it it’s very easy to get a average of 2-3 kills are game
Constabnt uptiers in thsi, plus the missiles dont hit too often

Its so easy to counter this thing, literally just turn off your engine and it wont kill you lmao
then another plane can come in while ur at 200 mph...
Until you run into someone like me, who has way to much practise using bull pups like Nord AA ;)

are those uncaged seeker IR missiles at 8.7 ? If so, then holy crap with that speed combined it's pretty op at 8.7
Sea Vixen is min-maxed arround the idea of guarding the fleet against heavily loaded jet bombers, which puts game balancers in an awkward position. On the one hand, mach 3 15G missiles that can be slaved to a BVR radar. On the other hand 4 rear aspect IRs only, with no gun. Simply turning toward the vixen and/or turning off your engine renders you immune to this plane (unless you meet a wierdo that traded the missiles for unguided rocket pods)
@@ronaldthompson4989 I’d like to add that there is the option to take two red tops and two bullpups. If you practise with the agm-12 you can use it quite happily to take out planes from all angles regardless of their engine being on or not. Lovely to yeet into the face of bombers or people trying to head on with you.

The only problem I have with this thing is that it's hard to shoot down choppers in ground rb. haha what a minor complaint
You should be able to get below them then radar lock it. You're slaving the missile to the radar target instead of just heat (which helis put out very little till later helis)

@@jasoncrawford4929 it still does that. What I was saying is that the red top missile still tracks via heat and not radar. Radar slaving only tell the heat seeker head where to look.
Think I'm going wrong cos i keep blacking out all the time, makes it virtually unplayable but hopefully this will improve😅

Would you recommend this or the harrier ? Or maybe one of the other top tier british premium jets ?
I'd say the Harrier, but mainly because it's got a higher rank and can carry bombs better. Otherwise, I think the Sea Vixen is a bit more fun. Like 6.5/10 for fun for the Sea Vixen compared to 6/10 for the Harrier.
I'ld buy the harrier because it can research rank 7
I own the harrier,go for the harrier
i cant speak for the harrier gr 1 but i have the gr 3 which is very similar. the harrier line is amazing and the SRAAMs are godly, if you use them well. it is well rounded and especially strong for 9.7, but youll have to play a bit differently from most jets. (space climb and dive on people who dont see you. easy kills with SRAAMs.) if you want to grind through all of the british air tree i would recommend that.
i dont own the sea vixen but ive heard from people that do it is very strong especially with its missles. its speed is also incredible so you can outpace most vehicles at that BR. if you want to save a good 5k GE and youre already far up the british TT (or already own the best plane in the game... sorry i meant wyvern) then if i were you grind through the swift line and stick a talisman on the gr 3.
Tankenstein, The harrier is very fun,especially if you go into a custom and do stuff with the vtol,Iv managed to pull of a cobra using vtol and some other factors

Well, not having a gun is a big weakness of this aircraft. At 9.0 it would be unplayable. There are multiple scenarios where the sea vixen is an absolutely helpless sitting duck. Having flares makes you immune to it (turning off engine also works). Engaging it in a dogfight or at least going head on is also a guaranteed win. And even if a red top is fired at your 6 you just have to pull hard and dodge the missile. Taking all that into account the only kills you will be scoring with the vixen will be against opponents with poor situational awareness.

If the Red Tops had .5-.75km more range, and possibly a 50km/h - 100km/h higher top speed, THEN MAYBE to 9.0, but right now, it fits very well at this BR. Surprisingly well, even.
@@Tankenstein And yet everything else at 8.3 either fits at 8.3 or gets railroaded mostly by this thing. Not many if any things have flares at the BR and the Sea Vixen is nigh uncatchable unless you have an F-11F-1 Coming in clutch on your team.
It's way underused and underrated because it's quite frankly ugly and looks like it would be slow and very incapable. It's really not slow and it is extremely capable
It is an incredibly beautiful plane, great lines only let dpwn by the portruding booms.
Too many people have monke brains and find the F16 etc.. to be the pinnacle of aircraft beauty.
First 30 sec air - air? ajajajajaj no men, that shine in mixed battles, where no one knows where and what u are, and the best configuration is 2+2+2.

I wish I was kidding. Buy a missile only plane and try hard to kill steal from a gun fight. 🤦♂
