Stronger and Faster: V8 Solenoid Engine
- In the past I have made a 1 cilinder solenoid engine and a V4 solenoid engine. They turned out really cool, but today I’m going to improve on it by making a V8 solenoid engine.
To improve it I not only double the amount of solenoids I’m also going to make the crankshaft on my cnc mill and use infrared sensors for the switching of the solenoids.
Specs:
- Voltage: 12V
- Spool wire used: 0,4 mm diameter
- Estimated wire length per spool: 40 meter
- Spool resistance: 5 ohm
- Max rpm measured: 1000RPM

As long as the subtitles are great I am happy in any language.
That's great to hear! thanks!
Yes, as long as there is captions, im ok with it.
Subtitles also have fails
same. as long as the subtitles can accurately convey what you want to say, I'm good with it.
I'm from germany and I am always amazed how much I understand when someone speaks dutch.
Haha cool to hear! it is the same the other way around. I lived in germany for a bit some years ago and I learned to speak it by just listening and then starting to talk the words I knew and fill it with dutch words with a german accent. People usually understood me
i take classes and realized that there is to much more to learn
Plattdeutsch aus dem Münsterland + etwas Logik ~ Niederländisch
Was ist "Dutch" auf Deutsch?
Wonderful project! The Dutch works good. NEW T-SHIRT IDEA: “Don’t have a lathe?... Go buy one!” Love it!! :-)
Thanks Bernie! Haha that'd be awesome on a shirt 😂
That made me laugh 😆
Haha, I was going to say something very similar, Bernie!
While I can't understand or speak a word of Dutch, seeing you enjoy this vid so much makes it totally worth it. I say stick with Dutch. While I'm not personally a fan of reading subtitles usually, I can make an exception for your vids :P
Thanks Sychius! That is exactly the reason for switching for me. I think the extra joy translates into the video and makes it better overall.
This is the coolest thing ever. Imagine if electric cars used this as a novelty engine for enthusiasts or restomodded classic cars.
Hey, what if I said im trying to make that a thing? Well, atleast the electric cars using them.
I love when you have an idea, think it’s original, then find out it’s been done in this guys garage. Good to see it work as imagined.
Hi, I love the videos!
I am South African, and apparantly Afrkiaans and Dutch are similar, because i could understand most of the words you said!
I was looking up old V8 engines when I stumbled across this. Nice work mate, that's some serious craftsmanship!
Definitely keep spontaneity and subtitles, definitely works. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Very, very cool. Honestly, it was not only fun to see your work but also to listen and see how many words are similar to English. Keep it up!
Bedankt! Er komen een hoop leuke projecten aan ;)
En ik kom ook van bij Henk ... Toppie
Idem :)
Check, via Henk....
I like the idea of you switching to Dutch because it is easier for you but I would prefer if you instead spoke in Dutch and made a dutch version of your vid but in the same vid you did a voiceover in English and uploaded that instead so that way everything is still fast and you don’t have to think before you speak but English speaker fans can still understand you and listen without having to resort to subtitles, I understand that is more work for you though.
Thanks for the suggestion. I see your point and I have been (and still am) thinking about ways to also incorporate the international public. I do indeed have limited time so right now I'm focussing on this change. When that is established I'm going to look for the other options
Do the videos in whatever language you like! I can read English and will watch regardless. Superb entertaining engineering, your enthusiasm rubs off onto others for sure!
Thanks! that's cool to hear!
Amazing staff ! I was very glad to find your channel
If speaking Dutch is more comfortable, I say go for it! I also like having subtitles instead of a voiceover or dubbing, because hearing the words while reading the translations is a great way to start learning to understand a language.
That is very true! As a kid I was always watching english movies with subtitles to learn to speak the language :)
This is an amazing project, nice job! 👍
Dude. No amount of words can describe how amazing this is; in any language. Just wow.
Thanks! That's awesome to hear!
That sounds so cool. Amazing work dude!
Thanks! It does sound really cool!
Hola!
Nice work. This is absolutely amazing
Thanks John! This is one of those projects that turned out so nice that I can just sit and watch it.
Really cool Emiel, awesome work! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred! Glad you like it!
Wow beeindruckend Gut gemacht
I had this idea myself, but lacked resources. It'd nice to see it working.
You don't know , how much I love this engine
Gaaf! Mooi project!
JerryRigEverything Dutch style. Love your content, man.
Dutch works fine especially given your explanation of why it's being done in Dutch. Thank you for the video!
Awesome! Glad you like it
Great stuff.
I'm sad you said Electronics is boring.. it's very interesting for me and an awesome course... Though trouble shooting problems can be a hassle for some people, but it's also a nice time to learn alot..
I just found your video. IT IS AWESOME! Subscribed and liked.
Nice work jerry
Super vet!!!
I speak English but subtitles won't stop me from enjoying these videos
Thanks that's good to hear
I dont understand but I like the video
alexflipper 935 you can use subtitles
Glad to hear that you like it. I have added english subtitles to the video to help with that.
Thanks 😂
Conclusies:
Very cool project Emiel! Enjoyed watching this in-spite of the fact I’ll likely never attempt this. Really enjoyed hanging out and chauffeuring you around in Atlanta. As for Dutch. I grew up watching Chinese martial arts films. All sub titles. I adjust relatively quickly. It might be fun to have a Brit to overdub one of the videos as a collab. 🤣
Hey Chad! Glad you don't mind the videos being in Dutch. After being around the cool international community last week I had some doubts. But it seems to be all fine. It was nice meeting you and hanging out at WorkbenchCon!
Dankjewel! Leuk om te horen :)
Very good!
two questions:
1) How to make solenoid stronger
2) how make solenoid moving in steps
Bedankt
I don't mind the subtitles. And I have no idea how any of this project works (no engineering experience at all for me), but it was fun to watch you build it!
Hey, That's great to hear. i'm glad you enjoyed it
Amazinggggggggg! I love it!
YES! Een ander maker-kanaal in het Nederlands!
Cool project, Emiel!
Hey Henk!
The only problem I had was that the subtitles were really, really off in terms of synchronization. Apart from that, you may speak in the language you want, because your content is super cool.
Whoops, this was the first one where I wrote the subtitles. They are a lot better now someone else makes them.
This in my 1/14 scale rc semi 👌🏾
How hard would it be to scale up and use mass produced parts like the connecting rods for a weedwacker or model aircraft engine parts?
Don't worry about switching languages if you are more comfortable, I don't know dutch but I enjoyed the video, so if you did too while making it that's even better :)
Superleuk Emiel.
This guy is like the solo hacksmith
Im from México and I like your videos, it does t matter the language
Thanks thats great to hear!
Do you have a way of measuring how much torque its producing? If you added a drivetrain and wheels, could it move? Looks awesome btw!
what kind of part are you using to control the motors? (the mosfet part)
Hi, how are you i hope you're fine.
I would like to know if this kind of engine is more and ic engine or a electric engine as his power efficincy by constances at rhe rpm, also by all his moving parts and also if it can mount gearbox or its unnecesary
mate this is a wonderful project, i am so curious about these engines
i want so much to build one of these and test it, maybe even trying it on a rc airplane
your english vids are just as great!
The subtitles are great, had no issues. id say speak a language you're most comfortable with
man, you really made it, v8
Your video is touching. What kind of product did the infrared sensor use? Recommend the link.
Now let's make them full sized and hopefully Ford, Chevy and Dodge can keep the V8 alive in some way :)
Bravo superbe travail .
Thanks Jean Louis!
Tof project man, groetjes uit België. (perfect te verstaan) :b
Haha, gelukkig maar!
You must to rotate the engine in the first time ? Is it self starting ?
Prachtig compacte werkplaats :) En boeiende content ... dubbel op ! :)
Can you set it so that polarity of rack solenoid switches so that it pushes and pulls that would increase efficiency torque and balance
What's the difference bw copper wire and insulated copper wire ????
And also what kind wire is used in motor coils ????
Is it insulated copper wire or just copper wire
Very interesting! Question. Did you do any diagnostics on this to see what the current draw is on average for the system?
Hey, Thanks! each solenoid pulls about two amps or a bit more. there are always two solenoids engaged at the same time, and sometimes 4 so it draws between 5 and 10 amps
I dont speak dutch and I have no problem with reading english in subtitles, speak what ever language you feel like.
I got the gist with just watching your video as I could figure it out. That said, I'm not experienced in Germanic languages besides English as most of my experience living in Ontario, Canada so we are more exposed to the Romance languages (particularly French and Spanish). Ironically, I'm 3/4 German heritage, since three of my grand parents were of German heritage by their family or maiden names. I digress, I felt a bit of pain watching your endmill bit snap and thinking of times where I've had that happen with drill bits boring into metal. I've always liked the sound of these engines as they kinda have that Diesel or fast rotating steam engine sound.
Sir can you tell me how much power is generated by this engine and also rpm
Je Nederlands is helemaal top
I love that your doing videos in Dutch since I'm trying to learn it slowly and I can somewhat understand it cause German. And subtitles are fine for the rest.
However maybe put the subtitles In the video directly since how UA-cam does It, it Sometimes covers important parts.
And it would be really great if the timing and splitting were a bit better since it's really hard to follow like this at the moment.
I don't know how your currently making the subtitles but if you're in need of a good program Aegisub is really good.
I can't see if you have it enabled or not but I think there is an option for the community to create subtitles in UA-cam.
Thanks for the elaborate answer! I'm working on improving my subtitles. I did them myself this time and it can be quite the challenge to get all the timings right. They will improve in the future.
Supergaaf! Great job!
Dankjewel Rouverius!
Cool video. Dutch is no problem if we have subs, I'd rather have more content, so I'm happy to watch
Nice man!! Groetjes een belgische kijker!!
Hey Welkom!
12:01
Nice job.
your face of satisfaction and happiness haha greetings
Zeer innovatief! En cool.
Dankjewel!
When you came for the electrical and electronics part and he says that's the "boring" part... *cries in sadness and understanding*
I'll keep watching either way, your projects speak for themselves, one small request, dont talk so fast if your gonna switch I can't read that fast, lol
Thanks! that is nice to hear! I'll do my best to slow it down.
"For this kind of work a lathe is very easy.
If you don't have a lathe and you still want to do this project...
Just buy one."
XD
Life advise 😂
Umm what is the torque qnd rpm of the engine
Plsssssss
Tell
I have a question so if I were to use this in an actual vehicle would I need to give you credit
Another great video! Is there any way to measure the power the engine produces (in torque, fractional horsepower, Newtons, etc.)? Bij voorbaat dank!
There are probably multiple ways. If I was going to do it I would put a wheel to it and see how much energy it generates when stopping it with the wheel.
However I now measured it by hand and determined its not a whole lot.
I didn't understood a word, however 12:01 does not need any language to pass meaning :D.
Great job!
Thanks! There are subtitels btw
Sounds like an old 6.9 IDI engine. Freaking mad .
Cool video! It's just as easy for me, someone that doesn't speak Dutch, to watch with subtitles. So many of the words are so close to English anyway and just pronounced a little different :)
Thanks! Glad to hear that :)
Echt een dikke werktplaats man 👌👌👌
Dankje! Ik ben er ook heel blij
Geweldig!
Much love of a ' de koterij' viewer :)
Hey thanks! welcome to the channel.
veel succes met het Nederlands!!
Dankje! Gaat best oké toch?
Awesome!!!!!
Thanks!
Great project! I can really relate to the spontaneous thing with the languages. I also feel like I get constrained or "stiffened up" when talking in English.
I find it a bit harder to follow along when I have to constantly read subtitles though.
Thanks for your feedback. I think a non native language will always have a bit of a barrier compared to native.. What would make it easier to follow it for you?
The time for the subtitles are to short. There is not enough time to see the actual process.
I loved the Dutch!
That's awesome to hear!
This is awesome, keep doing them in Dutch! One question; how many hours did this take to make?
The actual build was two or three days. Not counting the fact that I had to redo all the spools
