Thanks--on my wife's car the Power Liftgate Switch was accidentally turned to off! Only 36 seconds into your video and you saved us a time-consuming, probably expensive and embarrassing trip to a service center.
Yeah mine was the power door switch. I checked out this video just to be sure. Also turned on and off the dome part as well just to be sure as a first step. As a mechanic I might not know what's needed for everything so just to be sure I'm on the right track I do research. As it's likely other had the issue first and I can still save some time this way. It's easier to type a few words than spend time scratching my head thinking about it.
Wow. After 4 months of the lift gate not working and putting off the expense of the dealership I found this video at 1130 at night. Went right out… by 1135 loft gate was working!! Thank you!!!
We just had this issue with our ‘16 Rogue. It was the battery. We had no signs at all that the battery was failing, but we had it tested solely because of this video, so thank you!! Load test showed we did need a new battery. Immediately after installation, liftgate resumed working. 😁
My power door off/on switch accidentally got turned off. I just called the Nissan dealer. This would have cost me 150.00 for just a diagnosis. I was able to fix this myself. I am one happy girl. Thank you very very much.
Liftgate would not open, period. Cleaned both battery cable connections on my 2017 Armada and the liftgate started working again. I believe it is an indicator that I should be replacing the battery very soon. Thank you so very much for your video!! Saved me money $$$!!
Liftgate not functioning at all on our 2017 Nissan Rogue SL: Unhooking the battery for 1 minute and then hooking it back up, solved our problem! Thanks!!
These are the best kinds of videos on UA-cam. Descriptive problem fixers. On my 2017 Murano was to clean the battery terminals. Seems it wasn't getting that 11 volts it needed to operate the lift gate
The battery reset (disconnecting it for a few seconds) did it for me. Thanks man! You saved us a ton of money. Imagine if I had gone to the dealer, to those thieves!
THANK YOU!!! Our lift gate just... stopped working. No idea? Per your video, checked the POWER DOOR LOCK button, and it was off; I guess we bumped it somehow. That fixed it and saved us a service visit to the dealership! Brilliant!
I can’t thank you enough. You saved me hundreds of dollars and time for sure. I first checked the side factory fuse reset and when that didn’t work I was losing faith. I had a buddy who had some basic tools ie 10 mm socket wrench assist me with removing the connections on the battery for a few minutes…simple as can be, removed the connection on the black/negative first….kept away from metal to prevent sparking…then the positive…..few minutes later reconnected in the opposite direction …put the positive ie red back on first, then the black ie negative and started the car and I was shocked …and I still am that this simple trick worked. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Wonderful to hear. Generally this starts happening when the control modules don't get enough voltage. It is worth to test the battery and replace if needed. And thank you so much for the support.
It’s now march 13 2024 and you save me 190 dollars. All my battery needed was a good cleaning from corrosion along the wires and but back on and boom it’s started to work thanks for the upload of this video.
Thank you so much sir. I have a 2018 Pathfinder and today the power liftgate wouldn't work. Followed all your steps and the last option to do a sof reset worked. Also just small tip, always remove the ground cable first and re-install it last just for safety reasons. I only removed the ground cable, waited a minute then put the ground cable back. Thank you again bro, saves people from paying the service dealers for something so minor.
Thank you so very much! You saved me time and money. I went straight to taking cable off battery terminal and putting it on and it was so satisfying to hear that liftgate open!
Wanted to give you a shout out to thank you. Had my car washed inside and out and noticed my trunk “button” wasn’t opening. Found your video and not even 10 seconds into it, i went to see if the button was on off by accident. It was. Thank you once again.
Option 2 worked for my 2019 Nissan Kicks. Only differences were that the fuse panel is down by the driver's left foot, and I didn't see a warning message regarding shipping mode - so I just waited a few seconds after starting the car and continued with the steps. When I first tested the trunk immediately after doing the soft reset, it didn't work, but I tested again after driving the car for about 30 seconds (to get back into my parking spot) and it worked perfectly. Thank you!
You are a LEGEND - unhooked the battery and “hey-presto” its working again. I was just about to pull the entire tailgate apart. - thanks for the video 👍👍
Great video, very informative. I like that you analyzed the issue and broke it down step by step. The tailgate on my 2017 Nissan Rogue SL stopped functioning, extremely frustrating and stressful ! None of the steps worked including trying the soft reset via the fusebox. Was about to disconnect the battery then decided to take the vehicle for a short drive. As we put on very few km on the vehicle I thought maybe getting the battery going might work. It did ! Keep up the great work !!!
It was the power door on/off switch for me! Didn't even know I had one! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this! Oil change appt tomorrow & dealer was going to check the switch too. Bet they would have said the switch needed to be replaced & when I brought it in, all they would have done was turn the power switch from off to on. Woo hoo. You ROCK!!!
Thank you sir usually do not comment I am a mechanic and I found this video extremely helpful and extremely informative not only for myself but for everyone who has this issue with their rogue thank you sir and I have subscribed!
Option one and two didn't work so we tried option 3, which we really did not believe could be the problem. But we replaced the battery and it worked!!! Problem solved! Ty so much for this informative video!
Big Help! I had an Infiniti FX35 with the same liftgate issue. Tried all the tricks and was about to buy the actuator for $500 and then saw your video. The car starts fine but I threw it on the battery charger and that was it! Liftgate opened right up! Thanks!
I want to repeat what Tracie and Who Cares wrote! Thank you very much! The fuse reset did not work, but cleaning the battery posts was the real deal! Oh, the savings in time and money! Another happy Canadian. Update: the liftgate did work for a couple times after the battery post cleaning and re-seating, but then the liftgate stopped working again. Will have to visit the dealership. FYI, I bought this Rogue about 10 months ago and soon after purchase had to return it to the dealer for warranty repair to the liftgate. Same issue. They did resolve the problem at that time and the gate worked fine until a few weeks ago, when it failed once again.
Holy crap...the battery hack actually worked. Clean the battery terminals...I had a lot of white? powder. Removed the powder, reattached the battery terminal...bamm...the lift gate works. Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much!!! My trunk door on my 2020 Nissan rouge hasn’t been working for a few weeks and I was just going to take it to the dealership and decided to look for yet another video. I followed the instructions in the video up until the battery and it didn’t fix the problem. I tried to disconnect the battery and left it off for a few seconds. That didn’t work. But I tried again and left it disconnected for some minutes (about 10) and it worked ! My battery is about 4 years old now so you’re right it probably needs to be replaced.
2018 Nissan rogue. Neither the key, hatch button or dashboard button were working for me. I called the Nissan repair shop in town and asked if there was a fuse. They kept telling me there was an on/off toggle and I kept telling them there was not. I asked which fuse it was because I couldn't tell but they didn't know either. 🤦🏻♀️. Thank you for this video, disconnecting and reconnecting the negative terminal of the battery worked for me. Will get my battery checked later this weekend but it is only a year old and still under warranty so theoretically should still be good.
Amazing, Thank you so very much. That's solved the problem and saved me a massive amount of money and stress! It was the battery reset that did it. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you sir! Even though my rogue is a 2021 and under warranty, I didn’t want to waste a day at the dealership. I simply unhooked the battery and reattached after a minute and it works properly. Thanks for the info!
Excellent video. Pretty damning of Nissan that 43 thousand people have had to watch it, but it saved me a month of worrying about why my hire cars boot wouldn’t open. Thank you!
Thank you very much- in my case I followed what you did with the red positive terminal: cleaned around it as there was some white corrosion, gave it a light sanding with sandpaper, reconnected it - and presto, the lift gate opened! - thank you very much from Canada!
I don’t usually give comments on videos, but I’ll do it now. This really helped us a lot, save us a lot of money and time. It actually worked! So thank you so much! You’re awesome! Cheers! 🍻
Our 2016 Murano would not start and no instruments had power. About an hour later it started and everything but the lift gate worked. I unhooked the battery and reconnected it and it fixed the issue. Thanks!!!
Looks like your battery terminals are corroded and so nothing worked. Clean the terminals and the grounding bolts well with wire brush and then reinstall.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! It took unhooking the battery, I was sure it was going to be the expensive hard to deal with option. I almost fell to the ground when this worked.
Thanks for the help , we changed out both the struts and that part went easy , but the outside button wouldn’t raise the tail gate but your first little hint of the on off switch was the issue !, I didn’t even realize there was an on off switch 😂! Again thanks very much !
Make sure to watch all the way til the end. The very last thing to try is what fixed my issue. Had a bad battery and the first thing I noticed was lift gate went out. Jumped the car so I could get to auto zone. Got a new battery and then noticed lift gate still out. Reset the battery and boom, all works again!
Thank you for your video. I was having the same problem and tried the first two (start easy of course ) the third on ( battery one) worked. Thanks again
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery also worked for me. Huge time and stress saver. Should be in the owners manual. "Turn it off and turn it on again" FTW
Has it ever stopped working since you reset it? I can pull the leads off the battery and it will work immediately. But randomly it will stop again. Pull the lead off... Works. Repeat...
Hello buddy your door still working yet? Because I have the same problem but just work a couple of days and after don't work again. Thank you for your answer.
this worked for me the dealer wanted to charge me $700 to replace the trunk lock when it just needed to reset. I am glad I didn't opt for them to replace it.
This is exactly why I post these videos. Almost always the dealers are upselling every thing and I am not going to let someone pay a week of hard earned money to some greedy dealer.
Lol, I didn't even have a button but included as part of the diagnostics. Now I see many are commenting about the switch being off. Glad you saved a lot of time and money.
hello there ... just found your video. I have tried everything but to replace the battery. My liftgate actually opens but does not close.. perhaps the motor is bad. Thanks a lot for such informative video!

Same. Disconnect and reconnect the negative terminal and I was in business. Thanks!
THIS IS THE WAY!!!!
Thank you so much ! Have resisted bringing it to the dealership $$$$$ for 6 months. The battery reset was the ticket. You are the man !!!
THANK YOU!!! Our lift gate just... stopped working. No idea? Per your video, checked the POWER DOOR LOCK button, and it was off; I guess we bumped it somehow. That fixed it and saved us a service visit to the dealership! Brilliant!
Awesome, anything to stay away from the dealership.
You're a lifesaver!!! Also saved my wallet. Disconnecting the battery fixed my tailgate. Thank you!!!

It was the switch to the side that my daughter must have accidentally touched. Thank you for a great video!!!
My Pathfinder has liftgate on/off switch on the bottom like you mentioned, this did the trick for me. Thanks for your video, was very helpful!

Did you try actually replacing the battery with a higher cc amp battery? Most of the liftgate problems point to the battery drop in voltage.
