Darren filming himself in a mirror laid on his piano, Nikki playing drums on Crafty's bottom, the MTV and Pac Man t-shirts, the 80's SFX, and the joy that you have recreating this perfect era, that's happiness !
Holy Crap you guys nailed that!!! Took me back to my childhood. Aug. 1, 1981, I remember 12 yo me sitting in my living room waiting for MTV to premiere that night.
This is just Singit Live in a nutshell. A gang of friends who love performing and can put on one hell of a performance! Another 80's classic, obviously the first video played on MTV. But this being "videoed" with Darren's Ray Ban's in a mirror? That's a next level idea. I didn't work it out at first, thought Zoran was having a shaky day! Damo with a comic book cut out? Cool. Crafty was the lucky recipient of the ass slap this time rather than Nikki. I'm sure this will show up in future fun tracks. I don't hardly need to mention the singing or playing as it goes without saying how good it is. Harley must be loving this. Kudos from Matty x
The talent of these people to recreate these classic tunes is incredible. They don't just cover the songs, they add their own touch that makes it their own. Always a pleasure to hear anything they cover. They do it even better than the original at times. They always look like they are having a blast doing this which makes it even better. They were one of the best things to come out of the covid lockdown era. They literally were a bright spot in the darkness of that time. Glad to see they are still keeping it going.
Video Killed the Radio star was Number 1 for eight weeks in late 1979 in Australia radio charts. I was 12 (two years older than Darren) and music mad at the time. MTV hadn't begun yet (in late 1979), but I remember this song being played a lot on the free to air tv stations, every weekend "Sounds" with Donnie Sunderland (non stop music videos), three hours on a Saturday afternoon. and another similar (only in SA) show on Sundays ("Music Express" with Greg Clark??). Probably played on "Countdown" too and would have been shown as a throwback, when RAGE started screening on ABC2in 1987. It was a fun song to sing at school, imitating the megaphone part with a rolled up newspaper and doing the ooh oohs (as year 7 schoolkids). We loved the music videos, so didn't really understand the opposite message in the song. Living in Australia, (where at the time, international acts didn't often tour, or completely left off their world tours), the videos were our ONLY opportunity to see the artists, that we would never get to see any other way. with the benefit of multiple decades, I now read the lyrics, and realise, Trevor Horn was predicting music being written and produced by A1, (which IS happening now), but he predicted it back in 1979. Buggle's lead singer was the same Trevor Horn, who later went on to sing in Art of Noise and YES (Owner of a Lonely Heart etc). Trevor Horn is famous for producing so many other famous musical acts also SEAL, Malcolm McLaren, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones, Leann Rimes. What a talent. Sing it live hasn't done an identical cover (different accent, no megaphone effect etc), they've made stylistic changes and done a fantastic homage to Buggles, love it.
I remember the early days of MTV when they played video after video and I loved it. This was the perfect song to kick off that channel. Suddenly recording companies had to include a music video budget. These videos introduced Madonna and Whitney while elevating Michael and Prince. Sing It Live, thank you 🙏🏾 for the great music and memories. Be blessed 😇, from Virginia, USA 🇺🇸.
Great People, Great Talent, Great Music, Great Sense of Humor. Oh ya , also a Crafty. These are what I think are some of the key ingredients that make Darren & the gang so loved & respected. Real people. Thank You Darren, Mario, Stuart, Damien, Nikki & Crafty.
WTH!!! What can't you sing Darren?? You guys nailed it guys! This has to be a fav now! YOU JUST BRING SO MUCH JOY!! Sooooo much talent! Following since you were all in HSCC! Thank you for the music SIL ♥
Absolutely Excellent!!! Nikki always has such Charisma. Between her dancing and singing, and all others here, y’all breathe New Life into these Retro songs and make them come alive and sound like new again.
You are….the video stars….. Such an iconic song and you nailed it. The entire band, as ever, bringing it home. Love what you do guys. A lot goes on behind the scenes to bring us these amazing tracks but I hope you know we all appreciate it! Another classic to add to your collection….still got my fingers crossed for Mony Mony one of these days too. 🤞
Never heard that tune before now. However, I just atomatically know that Nikki, Darren and the amazing SIL band members knocked it out of the proverbial musical park! BRAVO! 👏👏🎤🎤🎹🎹🎸🎸🥁🥁👍👍
I have mixed feelings between melancholy, joy and satisfaction for the group: young people are great, the song is an iconic melody from the golden decade and I am very pleased that the video has reached excellence, congratulations, I want more of that music, it is addictive
BRAVO!!!! PERFECT RENDITION, STAYED TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL, and that my friends is why so many fans like me love you guys! And Nikki, a Breath of Heaven!!!!
Taking me back to high school. That was breathe of fresh air. Nikki's voice is so beautiful. Thank you Singit live for starting my weekend off on a happy note.
I'm old enough to remember when this came out and it was something different and special, then a few years later the birth of MTV, a golden era of music and music videos. SING IT LIVE, you guys did this beautifully, it's a hard one to cover well (been there) and the video clip you created was the cherry on top. Fantastic guys
God, August 1, 1981, I believe was the very day MTV began. 19 days before I turned 8. How the hell was that 43 years ago! I love this song! You guys absolutely nailed it! But I have to admit, it makes me want to cry, because I was a hell of a lot happier back then!
Yet another outstanding performance, this time one of my favourite tunes. No, video has not killed us yet, radio is still alive and well. South Aussie talent at it's very best here.
Every week this channel just inspires. Not just musically and through its expertise, but it is a story of how one can start again from nothing, rise from the ashes and become the whole damn fire. To all those who tried to keep this man down, this is how you answer them. Churning out gold every week, creating something even better and watching karma do the rest! Beautiful to behold and a lesson for us all on how to win in life!
This was glorious. The musicianship flawless as always. Darren and his fellow musicians are setting the bar very high leaving not much room left for others to compare to. Love this. Thank you guys for this. A fan from Bonn / Germany
If there was an international award for the best production, best arrangement, best performance, damn it….best everything, this performance just went to top of the list 👌
Fantastic cover guys as always production, top-class. "Video Killed the Radio Star" was released on Sept 7th 1979 by Island Records by The Buggles. An English band formed in London in 1977. It was the first pop video on MTV. The original idea was that The Buggles - a robot Beatles - would never be seen, but once the group had a hit they were as anonymous as an explosion. Hit the number one spot in no fewer than 16 different countries.
You know the deal !... Hit the thumb first and then listen, 'cause you know it's gonna' be great !....... OK, it's four minutes later and.. DAMN, IF IT WASN'T BETTER THAN I KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE !
Took me back once again to another decade in my life where I was young and fancy free, then at 24.5 I began having children until I was 35.5. these videos and songs you reproduce are so good for my soul and spirit. Thanks a million for taking me back to a simpler time in my life. I didn't realize then that I now do today, and at 66, it is not easy growing older, but music keeps us young! Love y'all, from East Texas! 🇨🇱❤️😎🐎🍻👏
PEEERRRRFECTION!!! Darren love the nice touch with the MTV shirt too! The vocals between you and Nikki are so good. Love you guys. You’re all so beautiful!!
Darren killed it, Nikki killed it and of course the band was terrific!! Incredible job guys. I felt like it was 1979 again!! That tune was right in Darren's and Nikki's lane and when that happens the song sounds like the original smash. Keep up the great work. Great job Darren rotating all your peeps in that band. Tonight you guys sounded better than 5 seconds of summer!!!😂😂
1980 was great! Stuart sporting the Pac-Man shirt is funny. I was 8 yrs old when this song and Pac-Man came along. So many hours spent playing that game with the radio on.. Wow Nikki is like a priceless 💎 💎
Thank 's, Thank' s for the great groovie start in the weekend and the smiling start back in my youth and this all on my birthday . Greetings from Northern Germany to the other side of the world with the best band of Australia ✌️😍🇩🇪🌹🇦🇺
Still popular all these years later. Asia played this during their last tour (keyboardist Geoff Downes co-wrote the song), and the crowd would lose their ever-loving minds! Great cover, btw. Nice touch with the MTV shirt.
I remember this being in the charts, always loved it. I also remember seeing this on MTV, the first record played! Take me back to the 80s, the best decade…. This was a spot on cover!
Killer track - next level production - and it’s all still one take from Darren’s basement 1980’s classics never sounded so good - how awesome are the Sing it live team 🎵🎤🎸🥁🎹🫶Darren Nikki Crafty Damien Mario
Absolutely superb guys. I remember when this came out in late 79 Trevor Horn's production was just on another level from anything else around at the time. Plus the ear worm chorus and female vocal hooky bits just made it gobsmacking. Well done!
Great song which has stood the test of time . I was never too sure about the lyrics but hey I still like to hear ‘ Vinnie O’Kiln the radio star ‘ 🤷♂️🤣. Nailed it again guys 👍
This song hit No.1 in UK in 1979 and spearheaded the MTV generation the following year. Such monumental achievements now vividly coming back to our consciousness thanks to the brilliant rework of the SIL people. So much fun and so much nostalgia. Well done !
@gntdriver2840 Thanks for your comment but I double checked the facts, in case I was wrong, it did spend a week atop the UK chart. A big hit internationally except in the US where radio airplay , rather than sales figure, played a big role in determining a single's chart position. Back then, I found the UK chart more unpredictable but nevertheless a lot more interesting. Crazy sales would land a single easily at the upper reaches of the chart.
Why these people aren't on every play list in every Radio Station, around the world, is beyond me.... Cover songs are played daily, thousands of times. ... There is no justice in the Radio World. Darren, Nikki, Crafty, Stu, Mario,Damien and all the others that appear on S.I.L., Y'all deserve a" Yacht on the Riviera" , life !
Dig it! WOW. Too much fun! Y'all crushed it. Stunningly good. Darren knocking them out of the park lately on the vocals. And, NKH, a born performer and just a doll! 😍 A++ my friends.
Music people of the world, do you all agree with me, that we are listening, and looking at one of the best cover bands in the world 👍 ❤️ 🎵🎸 🎤 🔥 ❤️

Agreed the best in the world.

Sing it Live, my favorite Friday cover band, it’s an extra bonus when Niki sings! that was fun!

When I saw the thumbnail I thought, there's no way they'll do this song justice. I was wrong. Very well done for the first song played on MTV.
A classic from my youth. I love the treatment of Nikki's vocal. Great reverb and delay.
Just when I think you guys can't any tighter, you break out the torque wrench and crank it up 10 or 12 notches!!! Gold!!
Nikki…. Darren… crafty…. Everyone…. Excellent!
First video ever played on MTV. Classic.
Pat Benatar was # 2
Back when a music video was still a novel idea.
This group never disappoints, doesn’t matter who the singers are, the outcome is the same, quality, entertaining and fun. ❤
