LG OTR Microwave - Replacing the Charcoal Filter

The charcoal filter in your LG OTR Microwave works to absorb unwanted odors in the air while you are cooking. Replace the charcoal filter if your microwave hood combination is installed to recirculate air. The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned and should be replaced every 6-12 months depending on cooking frequency.
The charcoal filter (part #5230W1A003C) is available by calling the Parts department at your nearest Authorized Service Center.

Grease aerosolizes as it passes through the filter even though my microwave is vented outside. Is there a way to block this off so I don't get the grease spray?

LG stopped making this filter. I guess they want you to go buy a new microwave, rather than a $5 filter. At least they don't answer emails when you ask them for help.

My microwave vents outside but the filters looks gross and nasty. Does some air still go through the filter even if the unit is venting outside?

Regardless of whether you have an LG Over-the-Range microwave set up for Roof Venting, Wall Venting or Room Venting (recirculating mode), the grease filters under the unit are designed to remove vapors from your cooktop so over time the grease will build up. The grease filters should be removed & cleaned often, at least once a month. They can be soaked in hot water & a mild detergent. Do not use ammonia or place them in a dishwasher. The aluminum will darken...^Ivan

I cannot get the plastic vent cover back on. Mine is vented to the outside, but the cover just fell off. There is no way it will go back on. That sliding business does not work.

the tab probably broke off... that's what happened to mine. Had to order a new one, about 30 bucks.
