John Rambo is a mentally scarred Vietnam veteran. He travels around the country to see his brothers in arms. Things take a turn for John when the local sheriff tries to force him out of town. Refusing to comply, John ends up getting arrested by the sheriff, who charges him with vagrancy. The cops abuse their power and insult Rambo without realizing he's a war hero. Rambo, not one to tolerate such injustice, decides to act, leaving the sheriff to realize he made a huge mistake when it's already too late.

The most dangerous thing in the early 70s for young vets coming home, small town cops.
But how in the world would small town cops be a pain in the ass for returning vets??? I fought for my country, went through hell, lost friends, and a cop becomes a threat? I don't understand.

@@hassanal-mustapha1321 I was a young 20 year old disabled veteran, retired from the US Army on permanent disability. I was soon traveling cross country hitchhiking. I had long hair, a beard and a big bright yellow back pack.
I was clean, I was dressed in clean clothes, but I was identified by all small town cops as threat to thier community.
I've been harrassed, threatened, beaten, jailed and almost murdered. They never bothered to look at my Retired Army ID card till after all the shit. Some of them would apologize, but most were just embarrassed. But many, didn't give a damned! They had the power, and they abused it. Just like this movie. What's worse, are the uneducated deputies that have never been out of their towns.
They can be very scary too.
These days it's a different matter. A little.

Viet Nam veteran here. Never a fan of Rocky, I've seen the movie and I find most of the movie to be accurate because I've been there, done that, witnessed most of it, first hand. I've heard many in-country vets, non combat vets, and even civilians scoff and berate this movie. I never did since many things in this movie rang true. Ignorance and stupidity about the war and about the hatred towards and horrible treatment of our returning soldiers still turns my stomach and haunts me. Excellent narration and accurate account of the movie. Thank you.
As a vet I know “thank you for your service” is bs. But I’m saying it to you because I understand. You guys were drafted to a war built on lies and then spit out like useless fodder to come home to ignorant bs. The va still does nothing for you guys and most people have forgotten you but we vets haven’t.

A better way to show your support is to never ever support any war your government asks or drafts you to support. They are lying to you so money can be made from your pain, suffering, and death. I wish someone would have given me this advice.
But why would returning soldiers be subjected to what you narrated? I find it puzzling, considering the way we see service men being respected and applauded in America. Could it be something we don't know as non Americans sir??
The simple truth is that while the guy who wrote the book didn't make Rambo the hero, what made him the hero is that we have too many people who treat veterans in general like garbage who ought to be drafted and made to go through what they went through.

NOT a veteran here. I would like to believe things have changed for the better. I live in Spokane, WA and we (to the best of my knowledge) treat the military here with respect.
@@63bplumb , which is good. The thrust of the story, thought, is the arrogance and bigotry that the Police Chief allowed to happen. He allowed a bigoted bully of a deputy far too much free reign "out of friendship", and to cover up for it he hunted Rambo down. That is the big plot point: the dead bully's actions were so over the line, he had to either bring Rambo in in a condition where he couldn't talk or kill him. The Chief never intended Rambo to live through the manhunt. The entire idea of First Blood was John Rambo being dead so he couldn't expose police corruption from a department that was run by bullies with badges.
Again, I have little doubt where you like is beyond respectful to veterans, but the town could be anywhere in America.. and their are "those towns": in every state is the point.
Absolutely one of the best action movies ever made. I read the book many years ago and thought that this must be made into a movie. I definitely wasn't disappointed.!!!
Movie is a damn classic! The sequels had their ups and downs, except the last one. I loved the way they ended the last movie.

Unfortunately, you are right - many police forces across the country now have severe problems... not too long ago, I recall two Orange County police officers racial profiling and targeting a black man driving thru their area leaving Orlando... turns out he was a Senior Dade County police officer and they got officially reprimanded for pulling him over for no reason and for their harassing him... and the Sherriff's office up in Daytona just lost a class action lawsuit - seems they were pulling over anyone with northern plates heading north, and if they had lots of cash on them they called it "drug trafficking" even if there were no drugs, and impounded vehicles and such... it is NOT illegal in this country "yet" to have cash in lieu of credit cards (may people have lousy credit but still go on vacations). It was good to see them have to provide restitution and compensation to all they people they strong armed, even though it took years to punish them in court... while there are may good police in our country there are way too many that abuse their position to target those they do not approve of...

This was among the most exciting and emotionally and morally rewarding movies I have ever seen.
I was a British soldier at that time. While I laud Rambo's ability to accurately portray vet life, I have found much solace in my commitment to Christ, who lifts me above my surrounding despair and gives me everlasting hope.
Amen James! Not a veteran but I recieved Jesus as my Lord and Savior and was born again at the age of 24 on 12-26-1983 and at the age of 64 in Sept. I'm still walking down the narrow road with Jesus. Jesus has been with me all the way.

It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation. Fear is a part of the body's “fight-or-flight” response, which helps us avoid or respond to potential danger.
I avoided seeing this film because I have complete disdain for the popular culture and its entertainment. However, after happening upon this condensed version I have deep empathy for the Rambo character. He makes me very sad. I'd like to thank the producers of this video, and especially commend the excellent narrator. Thank you.
Ironically, considering the Rambo caricature that pervades our cultural iconography, the original Rambo, actually just called “First Blood”, is an excellent movie, full of poignant commentary about the psychological ravages of warfare and feelings of rejection many veterans feel upon returning to civilian life. I wouldn’t say you “have to see it”, but if you can tolerate a little violence for the sake of a meaningful story, I do recommend it. First Blood gets unfairly lumped in with a pile of other, less pointed, action flicks, including its own sequels.

When you enter the Military, they have a "Boot Camp". They take that shit very seriously. They yell, they exert you until you pass out the moment you hit the bed. They wake you up at the same time the next day so much that you can hear the halogen bulbs energizing and you wake up B4 the TI starts to bark having most of your bed made just to get ahead of what is to come. One day a week, you get church time for about 1 hour. Everyone who is smart goes. That is an hour of silence that is... silence from yelling and orders.
After Boot, depending on your Military Branch, you train. You continue these practices further and further burning these ideals into your mind. I can't speak for all branches, but you get the picture. Learn and train, learn and train.
My solution to how to help War Vets and even General Vets that were in peace times is: Build an "Anti-Boot Camp". IE: Civi Camp or something. Instead of having instructors yelling and making you feel like you must do this at this time or that when told, they can have "WELL PAID" licensed consolers removing some of these created "HARD Mental" blocks placed in all our minds.
Teach us how to cope with our issues and give us real eval's that can show we are ready to society. Not prison, but integration on a case by case.
This is just my 2 cents. It is better than just cutting Vets loose and not knowing the impact they suffered and how it might conflict with civilian life.
Rambo First Blood is one of my all time fav's. I hate how JR is treated, but so many Vets at that time were. We dare not do this in this time period which is so great, because we know it is not the soldiers but the people pulling the string.

My distaste for how veterans are treated when they come back borderlines on not hatred bur very close to it no wonder why when vets snap and they end up doing something that they would not normally do and they get treated like sorry to say but like shit by law enforcement if they knew a certain individual is a veteran or they are told that person is a veteran they should take on a whole new approach on them and get them help before they treat them like any other civilian cause they most certainly are not the shit veterans had to endure see hear and do it would make any other civilian disgusted but since my grandfather served in Vietnam I've always wanted to join the Canadian armed forces

For all non military personnel, an M 60 was not a heavy machine gun. A heavy machine gun was a .50 caliber. There is a significant difference between a .30 caliber and a .50 caliber. Maybe someone wants to compare a 180 grain bullet to a 750 grain bullet.
An M60 is a fully automatic squad based weapon. I’m pretty sure if it’s supposed to suppress infantry, it’s more than enough for civilians.
Exceptional wrap-up. Exceptional movie, characterizations, cinematography. Much, much more than a simple storyline. VietNam Veteran attempts to re-enter society, and is met with crippling resistance. So painfully true. And co-authored by Sylvester Stallone himself.

First Bloodthe first and best of these movies for me,great book about a Korean war vet,but they did the adaptation well,though.
War is crazzzzy, and the devastations has caused many families to be destroyed. I was married to a guy that was a army reservist, and he volunteered to go to Desert Storm. He had been a part of the Motor Pool, and told my children he was going to be retrieving body parts while over seas. He never disclosed any of that to me. I received pictures of him holding up a sign in front of a burning oil well that sais,"ROAD TO HELL." This guy was a rather tough guy and wasn't afraid of anything/anyone. When he returned home he was different, sitting up in the dark and not saying anything to anyone. When I would try to talk with him he snapped at me and told me to leave him alone. This went on for sometime,and his spent most of his time in clubs...which was his outlet! One evening while I was sleeping I suddenly was startled,when I open my eyes he was leaning over me,staring very cold looking in my eyes. I was absolutely terrified. I actually believed he was going to smother me. I always felt that the government should have placed all these returning guys from active duty in the hospital, and access if they were actually ready to return home or even in society. Instead they were brought back after enduring all that stress and hardship,and turned loose like a pack of wild wolves in the wilderness. The fear grew more intense until I couldn't take it any more. He had gotten involved with someone from work,and came in got his clothes and started to move out. I tried one year to see if things would become any different and they didn't...and I filed for divorce. I meant I wasn't going to be a statistic, and I am doing quite well...with no regrets. To All Individuals: If you see the tell tale signs of any kind of abuse just leave, because you only have one life to live, and thinking things will change....they only fester. Free & Happy!!

@@thebronx-kr9ns Yes, Vietnam was a draft war that did have some patriotic volunteers - the protestors mainly targeted the returning soldiers, sailors and other military from that conflict because they could not easily access the policy makers and military industrial complex heads (remember President Eisenhower's warning when he relinquished office) but those military and other vets were easy, convenient targets...
On 3 October 1987, after a Dawn Service held at the Cenotaph in Martin Place, 22,000 Vietnam veterans marched through the streets of Sydney in the Australian Vietnam Forces Welcome Home Parade.
15 yrs after the ending of the war. The Govt of the time didn't want a parade, they ignored all the wounded soldiers, and they turned a blind eye to Agent Orange telling the Soldiers they were imagining everything, they ignored Private Dr's findings of Agent Orange's results, the Govt did everything possible to disavow the whole Vietnam War.
The wharfies went on strike & refused to load weapons & ammunition for the Aussie Diggers, the Govt called in the Army to break the strike, and after that, the whole country went on strike. There were anti-Vietnam marches in every Capital city, many arrests, and bludgeoned marchers sent to hospitals for broken ribs, smashed jaws, broken noses, police dog bites,
After WW2 the Australian Govt welcomed all her soldiers, the biggest march in Sydney.
After the Vietnam War, the Australian Govt was embarrassed.
I have good memories of the Aussies in Viet Nam. They were the only ones who conducted themselves like they were in a war. The American military did everything in triplicate paper no matter how many lives it cost. I spent several times in the Australian Hospital in Vung Tau. My convalescing included using their surfboards. I was an avid daily California surfer prior to being drafted. Both times convalescing I was attached to their C7A's at the Vung Tau OLAB. They taught me how to drink and throw darts at their enlisted club. I have many fond memories with the Diggers. I have fond memories of the huge swimming pool at the hospital. I have many more stories too. All too soon, I had to return to the war. I have much respect for the Diggers. Many decades after the war, I learned how their government and their country mistreated them in the same cruel way that happened to us returning to America.
Sir I’m sorry for the way you were treated after your brave service . It’s embarrassing how you guys were treated . My grandparents served in the 2nd world war , grandma lost her first husband , grandfather lost a brother .
At boarding school we had a man who was with the New Zealand army and had a short time there and was injured . He said that you never knew where the enemy was , they appeared from nowhere , fired a few shots then disappeared .

First Blood was an awesome movie. Not Oscar winning type good but comfort food type good. However, the book was much better and more violent.
America owes the Viet Nam vets a huge apology. I've never been in the military, but that doesn't stop ignorant people, (including law enforcement), from persecuting me out of their ignorance and jealousy. Therefore, I can relate to the character of John Rambo. Sly Stallone did an excellent job of portraying him.

If you have an opportunity to read the book its not at all like the movie what it is is about John Rambo ( Vietnam combat vet ) & Sheriff Will Teasal ( Korean war combat vet) & the clash of both generational political views & military veteran skill sets ironically enough i got it off the book Cart decades ago when I myself was sitting in a county jail for a humbug arrest it was a good read.
1982 and technology was on point! I am very impressed! This is the movie of Sylvester Stallone that really stuck in my mind. The best to me by far and I hate the expandables.

Rambo first blood, was my second book ever to read I was in prison and I can tell you this the film is only about 50% right I would highly recommend that book to ye guys I won't say anything but they book is a great read ,💯 you will not be disappointed after you read it , 🙏

this is good stuff, I'd like to see a crossover between Rambo and the terminator. I'm sure those two wouldn't fight each other, instead they'd join forces and go fight the invading extradimensional aliens, that would show up later. what can help veterans, who have been threw a lot in their lives, is giving them housing outside of military bases and permitting them to live as normal a life as possible.

I encount6ered a lot of anamocity when I got home too. I was denied Jobs even with the government because they feared that I was a druggie or a crazed VN vet. I finally got a job that distanced me from my combat experiences and unwelcome home that I received. That enabled me to prove myself. Basically I got busy and got married and had a family. Until I retired a few years ago I was pretty much flashback free and on even keel. Now that I have more time on my hands, I am bothered more by memories. The key for me was to stay busy with a business I started and by a hobby to occupy my Mind and time.
Welcome home my Brother. You experienced what every returning vet experienced. You were lucky to have escaped some, not all, of the wrath our fellow countrymen put upon us for these many years. You did well to have had a somewhat successful life. Most Viet Vet can not say the same. The dreams, memories, and flashbacks will be with you forever. Sorry.

I can very much relate to your mental inner torture you endure from flashbacks. Ive had to see councillors on and off for almost 30yrs. Ive drank heavy,ive drank a bottle many times through the night in a cemetry whilst reading a book,falling asleep at a grave side where ive know i wont be judged( some of the best nights sleep ive had). My councillor ask me why im such a closed book ,i told her francis ,when you understand what im know about to tell you ,you will understand alot about me. I told her. Francis ,im scared to be in the darkness of my own shadows. Amonth later on my next visit she open the door ,pulled me inside,hugged me like she was never going to let go and sobbed her heart out. I started to open up and we both shared our troubles with each other. Our professional relationship turned into a beautiful friendship. Francis did ask me from time to time if we could go to the cemetry with a book a bottle each but not talk to each other, read sip our bottles and fall asleep when tired enough. She told me she felt liberated and somewhat free from her own demons on the nights we read. She was/is still amazing and now goes on her own when she needs to seek a little sanctury of her own.

Back then, cops could do anything, serial unalive, serial "rapping", and even if they get caught, the worst that can happen is a slap on the wrist.

If this had happened in Mayberry, North Carolina Sheriff Andy Taylor would have taken him to the diner for a hearty southern breakfast. Grits, toast, bacon, eggs, hash brown potatoes, and coffee. Aunt Bea would have invited him in for a shave & shower, and a warm bed for the night. Opie and his pals would have been fascinated to see a real live war hero!

In times like these even an officer of the law should never abuse what any police officer stands for and yet this guy in the movie caused his protection all he did was made things worse by starting up trouble with a stranger are there consequences to be making enemies of strangers

My husband was in Vietnam😢and he had Post dramatic stress too. And got cancer from that Agent orange, he passed away thirteen years ago and i'm very proud of him for his Service in vietnam he is in God arm now.resting in peace with the lord. 😢😢
This is one of the greatest movies. The VA is working very hard to help all the Veterans that suffer from PTSD an invisible wound. Having a person to talk to that actually knows what they went through is very helpful. Only those that also went through it knows what they went through. No one else would have the 1st clue what they had to endure and never will. If the Ahole jerk Sheriff once learned he was a Veteran, treated him better then none of that would have ever happened.

In my opinion all Rambo films are the best of his acting career.rocky films doesn’t do it for meme.
One small nitpick: at 9:42 it would be more accurate to call it a "matter of pride" rather than of "honor".

I was in the navy andhad something similar happen to me in Mississippi. A sheriff's focused the police in the next time, the twist was the police apologized to me and let me go.
I feel it's similar to the 12-step program people that have gone to the same things in life and that so they can relate to one another the things that are military personnel have to do at war is just mind-blowing and then have to live what's your nightmares and memories of killing people for the rest of their life unfortunately I do think them for what they have done and what they sacrificed A.A. is based on one alcoholic sharing with it does help I know it first thing

At the end, the commentator asks what can be done to help veterans. They need to be treated with respect and dignity. In New York City many veterans were staying in a building, which was their shelter to sleep at night. They were removed, put out into the street and the building prepared for illegal immigrants and they were given the living quarters where the veterans were staying earlier. That is a shame that our country treats illegal immigrants better than those who served our country and fought in different wars. Shame on these dirty politicians, who totally disrespected our military veterans.
What are government does is such a joke for our society and even before my life wars were on my TV and I had an uncle who was serving during the Vietnam time and we never spoke about it because it was so bad to even speak about

90 minutes golden standard love it, In reality you lot get bored after 90 minutes like children and so many movies ruined for your market, Fortunately DVD'S Boxed set showed the original or the American SHORTENED VERSION

well, i can tell you this ok, most people do not understand how to deal with men or people who have been thru certain stuff and this is what scares them ok and also because depending on what certain people have been thru, this can also come off as that person is very dangerous ok and they are scared of what that person may do ok, i am a former U.S. Army tanker ok and even me, people have treated badly ok and all just because they have no real understanding of what i could or may do ok,, yes i have been thru a lot but i have never been in what is called a real war, but i do come off as of having been in a real war ok, keep in mind depending on the person, they have what we call working info or intel ok, this serves as to tell us what it is we need to know about anything to anyone ok, now as a tanker i was in the second armor division under general Patton's son, which he was also a 4 star general, when ever you have soldiers under such a general, they will always be well trained ok and very disciple, this scares a lot of people out in the world out side of the military ok, as most people are not even close to being this high level of disciple ok, this is part of what scares people ok, keep in mind the training i have had as well as other soldiers, pretty much all of us took that training to heart, as part of us staying alive incase of war ok, so yes it is very imbedded in us ok and is very hard to break :0

Good movie for profit but did nothing for black soldiers returning from war. Suffered more violent treatment and death fighting a war that had nothing to do with them but they join to help the same people that didn't like them. Remember it's only a movie 😢
