@Appophust I'll have you know that I am a proud, card carrying member of the doofuss society. I didn't take it as an offensive comment. I just thought, because I'm 66, that it was a new fangled phrase. I DO love circus peanuts. Those at the circus (which now includes just about everywhere I go) and the orange ones. Which now I am craving.....thanks......(thankful sarcasm). The show was filmed w/movie film. Not TV film. Which makes the show so durable and 2-3 camera's. His idea. As was a live audience. Have you seen the episode of her and William Holden where she lit her fake nose? Not scripted! All reactions were real. Good thing she had that cup of coffee handy. Brilliance under pressure. Joy be yours!
She did this twice in two different episodes. The first time she did it was in the pilot. And then she redid it exactly the same way she did it the first time which was amazing to see.
Lucille/Lucy was the only character *ever* allowed to make fun of Desi/Ricky's English. Also, they were not allowed to make fun of in-laws, be mean or permanently nasty in their arguments, Ricky was not a "nincompoop husband" and Lucy and Ricky were vey much in love and never flirted seriously with anyone else or had extramarital affairs--those things were written into the contracts(source: Desi Arnaz's "A Book" and Lucille Ball's "Love Lucy")
That was true of the show. Real life was different. The reason that Ball insisted that the show be filmed in Hollywood (most TV shows were still filmed in New York) was because Desi slept around, and she wanted to keep an eye on him.
Have you seen the episode? Much of the show’s premise is Ricky refuses to let Lucy perform and she keeps coming up with schemes to get into the show. In this episode, they’re auditioning for some bigwig producers and they have an act with a friend of Ricky who is a clown. He isn’t feeling well so Ricky tells him to go to his and Lucy’s house for a nap. Lucy finds out, convinces the clown that he’s super sick, streals his props and costume, and marches into the audition. Ricky is expecting his friend, instead it’s his wife who he spent the better part of FOREVER saying she’s not allowed to perform... and because they’re in the middle of a show, he has to just go with it. 😂
He actually explains why he doesn't want her to be in show business, and it has nothing to do with talent. He just doesn't want his wife to be in it. He wants to keep his business life and home life separate.
I love how the band members in the background are also enjoying her performance.
The bow flew closer than it was suppose to. It actually struck him. Never missed a beat. Love Desi. And boy, he was nice eye candy!
@Appophust ummm....okay....? And yes! I do like Circus Peanuts!

She so hilarious
No one was allowed to make fun of Ricky's accent but Lucy
I see Mary Wicks in the audience along with William Frawly and a couple producers of the show. So cool!
Wow, they allowed toilet plungers on television in that era.
Who else loves this show

She looked so cute

Lucy was brilliant on stage here, yet in following episodes Ricky had NO interest in letting Lucy perform at his club.

@@HumorousLOL Yes, but that has nothing to do with why the writers took the show in that direction.
@@MartinDee2000 Why is that a problem, exactly? You make no sense.
@@HumorousLOL "Problem"? I made no mention of a problem.
Where can I buy this episode
