    The price is the real problem. The base iPad is now not an affordable option and too close to other iPads that are better value for money. $400 for a 128GB option would have allowed the base iPad to be viewed much more positively. The situation with the pencil is definitely a Homer Simpson 'D'oh!' moment for Apple, however.

    I'm absolutely lucky to still get the 9th Gen iPad as a Christmas Present in December 2021, since I would be VERY DISAPPOINTED if I wanted the 10th Gen iPad, since I like the older design better for most reasons. I still like the physical home button and I still like that they kept the headphone jack on the iPad 9. But I got to admit, it has got to be, ONE OF THE VERY LAST IPADS with this design, that has impressive performance, specs and internals shared with the more expensive models of iPad.

    • @Eddy_E.

      The 9th gen shares nothing with the more expensive models without the software (and even there are differences)…
      So it’s true that it is a solid device, it’s even more powerfull then the fastest android tablet but it’s a completely own device and has nothing to do with any other iPad…
      The 9th gen has a A13 with 3GB of RAM, it’s the only iPad with this combination and with that it shares no internals with any other iPad overall…
      The performance of this is not comparable with any other iPad too, the processing and graphics power is uniq in the apple eco system…
      It’s somewhere between iPad Pro 11“ first and second gen in processing power but both devices are way better in graphics and both have twice the RAM (first gen only with the 1TB model, the other have 4GB)…
      But how I said, that change nothing to that that it is a very good device for the next couple of years but every pro since the pro 10,5 is at least slightly better overall cause in the 10,5 you get laminated display, better colors, 1GB more RAM and 4 speaker setup…
      The iPad 9 has just a bit more processing power but graphics are more or less the same and nearly everything else is on same level or better on the old pro…
      Plus, the old pro shares the exact same accessories with the iPad 9, so if i had the choice between 9th gen and pro 10,5“ i think I would go with the old pro…

    • @Cythzyy

      @@Eddy_E. bro like good enough means good enough

    • @Eddy_E.
      @Eddy_E. Рік тому +1

      @@Cythzyy that’s not the point, when he say it shares internals with the pro models some people could understand that that he gets same power like on the pros but this is by far not the case…
      Yes it’s even faster then the fastest android tablets but the pro models top this drasticly…
      The newest pros have 1 2/3 times more single core speed, double multi core speed, 2 2/3 or 5 1/3 times more RAM and over 4 times graphic power…
      That’s not only a small gap…
      And again, that should not sound so that the iPad 9 is bad, in no way but it’s not even close to the pro models…
      The only other iPad in this league is the iPad Air 5 with the m1 chipset but all other iPads (7,8,9,10, mini 5,6, Air 3,4, pro 9.7“, 10.5“ and 12.9“ 1. and 2. gen) are a good step under this performance and all of that have still a great performance for the next couple of years…

    • @lmaouwild
      @lmaouwild 9 місяців тому +1

      I don’t mind the non laminated display. What I do mind is Apple spending resources to break compatibility with every existing accessory on this iPad, just to sell you a new keyboard and to make the pencil so annoying to use that you would rather spend more on an Air. This iPad is anti-consumer and not environmentally conscious in the slightest for a company that likes to boast about their green initiatives.

    That's the perfect iPad for me the 10th gen. Keep in mind not all the people change their devices year to year. The last iPad I bought was an iPad Air 2 in 2014. And I'm still writing this comment on it, because my main purpose of it's existence was watching UA-cam and Netflix. Sometimes some web browsing and professionally I used it for Teams calls and also for apps for live sound mixing consoles like A&H dLive or SQ. I did not need anything else, and I would continue to use it if the battery would not become unreliable. My brother bought an iPad Air with the M2 chip and I loved it but could not justify the price on such low usage and since I know I won't use the Apple Pencil at all the 10th gen is perfect for my upgrade as it looks the same as the Air (which I love the look over the 9th gen by ba huge mile) and the camera in the middle is a big deal for me for the Teams meetings as I will look more naturally. So yeah I do get it in the year by year comparison it's a weird device, but for me it just ticks every single thing for a lower price than the Air. Keep in mind I used the 2014 till now with no issues for my usage so even if I get 6 years out of the 10th gen that's ok for me. So IMO there is a market for this product. I know I will enjoy it! Peace!

That's better in an absolute sense, but certainly no reason to upgrade. Especially since pixel density, brightness, and the underlying display technologies (IPS, True Tone, non-laminated, etc.) are identical between 9th and 10th gen devices, so contrast, color accuracy, "depth", etc. are all going to feel more or less identical. It seems to me the "value" in the 10th gen is more about the A14 vs. A13 chipsets (which probably isn't that noticeable for many use cases), the better cameras (esp. the better placed front camera), and the fresh colors. That said, it still seems to me that someone looking for the best deal on an iPad ought to go for the 9th gen or for the M1-equipped Air. The 10th gen iPad seems to be caught out in the middle, IMO.
