My dad got two new bikes in the early 80's, a Nighthawk 650 and a Magna V65.....they gave off a certain smell when they heated up. That was over 30 years ago and I can remember that smell.
My grandfather has this exact same bike but has the back rack and sissy bar, it’s been sitting in his garage for 26 years and I’m planning on getting it running and back to life soon
My first road bike was an 81 Midnight Special XS1100.. I beat the snot out of that bike, other than valve shims and regular tune ups she would not die! Heavy, smooth, and fast!
One of the greatest sounding machines when a 4into1 Kerker is slapped on them. Fantastic engines. Torque for days…You can slap ZRX carbs at them and they run even meaner.
My best friend Dan bought one new in 79. He said it would do the quarter mile in 10 seconds. When we rode together he would totally smoke my Honda 750. And the reason that back tire is bald is it could smoke the tires from first to third. Great bike thanks for posting.
@@Kickstart500 I love them all as well, but those Hondas are the most reliable machines on the planet. I'd like to see Ken get a '85 CR 80. That bike kicked the KX 80 off the pedestal. You had to rebuild the top end after a few days but that bike ripped.
I’m 16 I just got one in a trade. I’ve had dirt bikes before but nothing like this. It’s definitely a learning curve but I love it already

I love these 4-cylinder Japanese bikes. Shaft drive and 3-disc brakes. WOW.

Picking one of these beauties up next week it hasn't ran in 8 years but a case of beer is all it's going to cost me to bring it home.
Always loved these bikes. You couldn't go wrong with this or a KZ1000LTD if you wanted a cruiser look.

Oh damn was there ever a more beautiful bike than the midnight special version of those? Blacked out with gold trim..
If I remember correctly Ken has had a few come through. They are all special bikes for sure.
@@stephenloflin4772 I think I remember one awhile back
@@Kickstart500 I was never a Yama guy. Honda all the way.
@@stephenloflin4772 I’ve had Yamahas, Honda’s, Kawasaki, Indian, Harley and KTM. The Honda’s have been my faves but I love them all!

I had a 1979 XS1100 and it hauled ass
I want to see those 6 cylinder kwakas!
Neighbor had a midnight special, bought new at dealership had a different lady on it every day..he got crazy and IT killed him.!
I just bought one of these from my uncle, you have any tips on restoration?
Is that chain or shaft driven.they were pretty fast in a conservative looking pkg.
Saw a 79 XS 1100. 800 miles. Always kept in a garage. They wouldn't sell it.
My uncle passed away and has this …. How much would it be to restore one?
1979👍
Classic Yamahammer that will leave just about any new Harley for DEAD from a light.
Even your '76 XS500 would embarrass a Harley from a light haha!
think your gonna take a bath on this one especially with trans issue but cant win them all
Yup so true
Smart bike, clean, cheap to run about on I expect with stock set up, they do make a smart cheap custom but thats too clean huh
