      Thanks for your kind words!
      I know it has been a few month since the last video, but the research, building prototypes and testing takes time.
      The next video (How to Replace the TPMS sensor) is already 80% edited and should be out next week.
      After that, I hope to have an update on the local testing of the GTR gauges :)

    Worked like a charm for me on my 2010 G37S. I have been wanting tire pressure readings sonce bought the car and never understood why it was missing in the first place. Now if we could the graphics or text for left front, right front, right rear, left rear it would be 100%, but i can live with this and it beats nothing. A big thank you to all that nade this possible!

      Thanks for the feedback!
      Fancy tire pressure graphics are built in to the nav unit, but not for the G37.
      I spent a few weeks trying to see if I can trick the unit to show them, but couldn't.

      Is the software in the firmware or on the hard drive ? Also, any luck on getting screen mirroring working with configuration and maybe a dongle to the USB or OBD2 port. Before I was using an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and obdlink to create a special dashboard on my phone to read the tire pressures. I can also get a ton of other info using using the dongle and obdlink, but it ties up the Bluetooth connection on your phone

    • @MotorvateDIY

      From what I have seen, the firmware is used to boot up the system and provide the "fail safe" for climate control if the drive can't be accessed.
      I have been able to re-configure the nav unit for AUX audio and video.
      Then I used a MIRACAST device to display my iPhone on the car's screen. Unfortunately, the AUX in video is only standard definition (640 x 480) so the image doesn't look very good.
      I've used OBDLink / OBDFusion and they are great to get all kinds of data on your car. BUT sometimes the data I want is on two different "networks" and you only get data from one :(

      There has been a fair amount of progress on the GTR gauges.
      The hardware has been finalized and I now have 20 circuit boards back from manufacturing. Over the next week I'll be building a few kits and start to test locally. (Toronto)

    Clear and concise explanations. Information beautifully laid out and easy to digest.
    Question for you though: I've got a 2014 Q60. Is it safe to say a lot of the information found on this channel pertaining to G37's applies?

      The 2014-2017 QX50 uses the same navigation system (08IT) as the 2010-2013 G37, so it is good to confirm that it works on the QX50.
      The 2010-2013 EX also uses the same nav sysem, so in theory it should work as well. Please let me know your results.

    Thanks for sharing. Definitely will be handy, and will try in the near future. Would be great if you could enable a relearn mode that updates sensor positions around the car so I don’t have to borrow a relearn tool. Now that would be magical😊

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  11 місяців тому +3

      Funny you should ask for that...
      I'm working on that...I made a cheap DIY device that can read the tire IDs and tire pressure. The next step is to program the BCM with the new IDs.
      Saving the TPMS IDs to the BCM is just a single command, so it shouldn't be difficult to do. Just need to wrap up the GTR gauges first :)

    • @piotreknowickiyt
      @piotreknowickiyt 11 місяців тому

      There is an manual option to do it! Without any tools. You have to check manual for the right pressure for each tire. You can put your tpms module into relearn mode. Find white cable attached to cable around your legs under the steering wheel. You have to ground that wire for 5-6 times and it will enter relearn mode.

    • @johnclare210
      @johnclare210 11 місяців тому

      That would be fantastic! Four winter months out of the year I have to live with a TPMS dash light because I'm too cheap to relearn my sensors twice a year, swapping winter/summer wheels. Both sets have sensors, and if there were a way for me to initiate a relearn as a DIY, I'd be all over that.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  11 місяців тому

      The white cable / "TIRE PRESSURE WARNING CHECK SWITCH" was removed for the 2011+ G37.
      If you have a G35/G37 up to 2010, you can use the paper clip method.
      For 2011 and up, you need a service tool :(

    Really cool! Thank you so much for giving us what Infiniti wouldn't for some reason lol. Cant wait for the next update on the GTR Guages :) If you're able to, can you elaborate on how the coding works? If the "3" at the end of the command corresponds to the write item value, what do the other numbers mean? Do you know of or have a list of other commands that work? Would be really cool to try and enable some other options

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  7 місяців тому +1

      I'm glad you liked it! Having real time tire pressures is nice. Too bad they don't use a nice graphic / pic of the car, like they do for the GTR.
      Since the commands are normally used for development by engineers, there is no "Are you sure?" prompt. I bricked my test bench nav unit 3 times trying out different commands. Luckily after 2+ hours I was able to get it back working, but it wasn't easy.
      For example, there is one command that deletes the unit's configuration, (without an "are you sure?") then you are left with no A/C control, no volume control and every time you start the car, the nav unit tries to eject a non-existent CD/DVD.
      Sooo, I worry that people will think there is always an "undo" when there isn't and mess up their system and blame it on me.
      Most of the commands are to configure existing hardware in the nav unit or on the car. For North America, we don't get many options to add/configure cool stuff.
      To get the TPMS menu, we tell the nav unit that we are type "X61A", which I think is the Nissan internal program name for the Pathfinder.
      The only other interesting options is the boot up / splash screen. You can select between Nissan, Infiniti and GTR.
      I will do a video in the future to show how to change this, as well as how to set the "vehicle type" so you can buy a cheap Rouge/Murano nav unit and make it work in your G37, 370Z, GTR, and and others.

  • @TheJoeyFerraro

    Legendary as always! Thanks for all of your hard work.
    Have you got any other commands here figured out? I've been wanting to change my startup animation but don't have a lot of the pieces you all seemed to use to connect to the systems before. It would be nice to be able to modify the radio values through CLI like you do here.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  11 місяців тому +2

      There are just over 200+ commands. BUT most of them are for trouble shooting and debugging.
      New features come from specifing a different configuration. Like the tire pressure menu.
      In a future episode I will show how to change the start up animation to one of: Infiniti, Nissan or GTR.
      A believe custom animation is possible, but VERY difficult to do and above my ability.
      What do you mean by "modify radio values"?

      This won't interfere with EcuTek. The navigation system configuration change doesn't change anything externally, so there is no way I can see it causing any EcuTek issues.
      I will verify this in the next few weeks, when I start the tuning process.
      I've never thought about a boost control add-on and will look into it once the GTR gauges are done testing. Thanks for the suggestion.

      It depends on how much you want to spend...
      You can just replace the one that isn't working and get the BCM programmed.... or replace all 4, get the BCM programmed and you should be trouble free for a few years.
      For me, I hate to replace parts that are still working, so I would only replace the one TPMS sensor that has died.
      Also, if you have navigation, and follow the steps in the video, you will be able to tell which TPMS sensor is bad, as it will show up as "***" for the pressure.

      From the data I have, the 08-09 G35/G37 with a 2010+ navigation system probably won't work or have a lot of gauges that don't have any data.

      What year and what make/model?
      That means the nav unit is not in debug mode.
      The most common cause is the windows default setting of "hide file extensions"
      The filename looks like "UsbDebugStart.ivanaX", but is really "UsbDebugStart.ivanaX.txt"
      In windows explorer, click on View > Show > File Name extensions
      If you see the .txt, delete it, that was the problem.

    Hello motorvate! I recently did a vhr3.7 swap into my g35 coupe 06. Engine starts, car idles and runs. however my cluster aren’t working with this swap. Anyway you can shine some light on what could I possibly do for this to work ?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes I can :)
      The gauge cluster receives engine RPM, coolant temp, speedometer, and a few other via the car's network (known as the CAN bus)
      For the 2007+ G35/G37 (V36 platform) Nissan/Infiniti changed the CAN bus message format.
      Soooo, your 06 G35 cluster is not receiving the messages from the VHRs ECU, and ABS module, so the gauges don't work.

    • @AngelJuarez-ip8bl
      @AngelJuarez-ip8bl 8 місяців тому

      yes, my speedo and gas gauge work. however my tach and temp does not. i'm running aftermarket glowshift gauges to hopefully get me by meanwhile. I need to locate the tach signal wire so i can hook up my after market tach gauge. do you have any idea where i can tap into that wire or receive the rpm reading from a coil possibly
      ? @@MotorvateDIY

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  8 місяців тому +1

      The VHR ECU uses a different CAN bus message than the 06 G35 to send the engine RPM and coolant temp to the gauge cluster. That's why they don't work.
      If you are interested, I am 99% certain I can put together a module that will convert the VHR CAN bus data to the 06 G35 cluster, giving you RPM and coolant temp, just by plugging it into the OBD port or wire in a module.
      The other option is to use ECU pin 110 (Engine speed output signal) to drive the aftermarket tach and don't worry about having coolant temp.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  7 місяців тому +1

      Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
      It will take some time for me to build and test this...
      I will need to dig out and wire up my 03 G35 cluster (should be the same as the 06 from a CAN data perspective) , write the program to convert the CAN data and then test it.
      The GTR gauges are my top priority right now, but #2 is now the "VHR to DE" converter. I'm aware of a few people who have also done this swap and it may help them.
      As for the cost it will depend on the hardware needed and I won't know that until I test. My goal is $100 or less.

      I'm going to assume you Windows 11 PC, is not "locked down" and you can add devices.
      If there is no COM port, means the nav unit is not in debug mode.
      Shut down the car for 10-20 seconds and try again.
      The other thing you can try is to use the sdcard.org "SD formatter" to format the memory stick. Sometimes a windows formatted memory stick doesn't work BUT this one seems to always work!

      There might be a way... Someone without nav is going to try this and see what happens. If it works, I'll let everyone know :)

      this would definitely be nice to have on non nav instead of having to use a scan tool to see my pressure lol! I know you can switch non nav to nav but thats more expensive@@MotorvateDIY
