  • Ever wondered how Wessex Tubas and Brass got its start in the world?
We sat down with Jonathan Hodgetts, the founder and president of Wessex Tubas and Brass, and had a great conversation about our humble beginnings and future plans!
We also had Will Druiett in, to speak of his experience with Wessex Tubas and Brass in the early days of its development. Some truly unbelievable stories were shared, and we can't wait for you to hear them.
From the very first tuba we designed over 13 years ago, to the wide selection of brass instruments we now offer, our focus has always remained the same: to create high quality instruments at an affordable price point. For more information about Wessex Tubas and Brass, and how you can get your hands on one of our instruments, please visit: www.wessex-tub...

Played on a Prokofiev at NABBA back on April 5th, and that tuba changed my life. Currently my goal to get one. Loved it so much, thank you.

I don't know what was done historically, but I have found my British F to play very well with a smaller than typical mouthpiece. I use a 29mm Josef Klier KBP 3D 7.6 and find that it gives me easy intonation and a wonderful sound from pedal A all the way up to the 12th partial C an octave above middle C. The high range above the staff really sings with the smaller cup and the thin hammered bell. In my opinion, an instrument that is basically exactly half way between a euphonium and a 4/4 CC calls for a mouthpiece that is half way between as well!
The only thing I would change about the British F is that I really think it should have a 12.5mm receiver.
