I'm having trouble buzzing the lower notes without partially blocking the end of the mouthpiece. Even the Bb that he buzzed first, I can't reproduce. I just end up blowing air without my lips vibrating. Can anyone offer some tips to help me out?
that's a very common problem because the instrument provides resistance that we can sometimes rely on too much. try buzzing starting on a comfortable note and slur down as low as you can until you get to a loose flap-type sound. do that a couple of times everyday and those loose flaps will turn into recognizable notes. you can also play that low Bb and slowly work the mouthpiece out while keeping the buzz going. think about sticking your lips forward into the mouthpiece while you go down low. that'll help lots
custom job with a custom bell. no chance you could buy one. if you want something similar, get a Nirschl. If you can't afford a Nirschl, get an Eastman 836. If you can't afford an Eastman, get a ZO 6/4 CC tuba.
I watched this in its entirety just to spend a little time with my old friend, Mike. 😊
I would say he knows what he is talking about. 😀
Thanks for these excellent tips! Now I'm prepared to enhance my tuba playing. That was fantastic!
Great video for introducing the Tuba.
That was a good intro to the tuba. I hope it gets some kids interested in it.
Really good material for someone trying to learn more about the orchestra and it's parts, thank you!

Principal!? Congrats
What kind of horn is this
Big horn
I love how he mentioned Tiktok 🤣.
I'm surprised to see him rotate a piston in the casing. I've always known that to be a big no no, but I'm not gonna argue with Mike Roylance.
I’ve done some time in a repair shop, and I’ve personally never seen any damage occur from something like that
That’s good to know. I might have to adjust my methods.
Rotating the piston spreads the oil over the entire surface of the piston and onside of the cylinder.
@@jerrybyers2172 a lot of people say it could make scratches
Model tuba?
