After a first setback, I managed to keep my grafted pawpaw trees alive. I share some of the lessons I learnt growing them in the cold climate of Zone 5.
That is a nice collection of Pawpaw trees. I know there is a large community growing Pawpaw in Zone 5. I have never tried the fruit. Did you consider using composted chicken manure pellets as a fertilizer? Big bag is about $12. I use it on all my outdoor fruit trees.
I used the same fertilizer on the other fruit trees I planted at the same time as the mango pawpaw, they did just fine. Somehow, the mango pawpaw could not take that. I probably should have lowered the concentration. I did have a bag of the chicken manure pellets, but I wanted higher NPK values.

this is the slowest growing fruit tree I ever planted from seed and from cutting
I can't disagree with you. In zone 5 the growing season is very short, so I gave in to the temptation of fertilizing...
